The Gospel According to Greg Greg Taylor Thanks to Jerry Dusenberry for sharing with us on Sunday about the exciting things the Lord is doing in the state of Rhode Island through not one, but two new Christian Churches. If you missed Sunday, you missed Jerry s update let me summarize briefly: NorthPointe Christian Church is now two years old and making a strong impact in the Providence, RI area. Jerry and his staff are continuing to make a difference for Christ as the first independent Christian Church in Rhode Island. SouthPointe Christian Church began holding services on October 30, led by LCU graduate Tanner Green and a staff of young and energetic Christ followers who are sponsored by Restoration House Ministries (Dan Clymer and crew) and launched in partnership with NorthPointe. This brand new church had 136 in attendance on 10/30. This year, FCC Clinton s Thanksgiving offering is designated for SouthPointe to assist with their significant start up costs. Our goal for this offering is $7, please give generously and passionately to this worthwhile offering! This Friday is Veteran s Day a day we pause as a country and say thank you to the men and women who have in the past or are at this time serving our country through our Armed Forces. As someone who never served in the military, I m so thankful for those who have ensured our freedom and continue to make the land of the free an ongoing reality. In the spirit of Veteran s Day, let me share a touching illustration by Preacher Lee Eclov that also speaks to our spiritual lives:
The Gospel According to Greg (cont d) Robby Robins was an Air Force pilot during the first Iraq war. After his 300th mission, he was surprised to be given permission to immediately pull his crew together and fly his plane home. They flew across the ocean to Massachusetts and then had a long drive to western Pennsylvania. They drove all night, and when his buddies dropped him off at his driveway just after sun-up, there was a big banner across the garage "Welcome Home Dad!" How did they know? No one had called, and the crew themselves hadn't expected to leave so quickly. Robins relates, "When I walked into the house, the kids, about half dressed for school, screamed, Daddy! Susan came running down the hall she looked terrific hair fixed, make-up on, and a crisp yellow dress. 'How did you know?' I asked. I didn't, she answered through tears of joy. Once we knew the war was over, we knew you'd be home one of these days. We knew you'd try to surprise us, so we were ready every day. What a wonderful story of love and also a reminder for all of us that we are called to be ready spiritually each day as well. Blessings to you, GT 50 Years Please join us for a 50 th Anniversary Party honoring Jerry & Mary Jordan, Saturday, November 12, 2011, Open house 5-7 PM, First Christian Church, Clinton A light dinner and refreshments will be served. Questions & RSVP to Rebecca Moore No presents please, just your presence is requested!

Young at Heart David Buck, Coordinator Be an encourager, not a discourager. Everyone loves to be with people who celebrate and notice their strengths and choose to ignore their weaknesses. We all love to be encouraged and made to feel good about ourselves, and we hate to be around negative, discouraging people who tend to be faultfinders. The more we encourage people, the better they behave. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18 NIV Phil Hanson will be with our group on the 16th of November, singing old gospel for us. On the 7th of December, we ll have the lovely choir from Heyworth sing Christmas songs for us. Then on December 21st, we ll enjoy our Christmas party with an Angel Tree Auction, gift exchange, and a great meal prepared by our wonderful ladies. Don t forget our calendar that is only $5.00 this year! To me, every hour of the day and night is an unspeakable miracle. Walt Whitman Just a few more trips this year. December 1st, we ll travel to Christmas in the Chapel and enjoy the students giving us a glorious Christmas event. Then to Bloomington for a fine time with the Gaither Christmas Party on the 15th of December. There is something in every season, in every day, to celebrate with Thanksgiving. Gloria Gaither He is a wonderful God. He is worth loving! He is worthy of all your passion and devotion. So don t wait until you find yourself in a desperate situation. Determine to seek and love God with all your heart from this moment on. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matthew 22:37 KJV BE AN ANGEL C.O.P.E. - Mission to the Children of Pokot in Kenya, Africa Make a difference in the lives of the Pokot for eternity with your GIFT giving this Christmas season. C.O.P.E. is offering the opportunity for you to honor your family and friends by giving a GIFT to them that is also a GIFT to the mission of C.O.P.E., given in their name. Be An Angel catalogs for gifts are available at the information center. If you have any questions, contact Leslie Gwozdz or Becky Glenn.

Donations for Thanksgiving Baskets The 1st - 3rd grade Sunday school classes will be collecting food for families in need within our community for Thanksgiving baskets. Please join with our children to help these families. Food items needed by Sunday, November 13th: candied yams, marshmallows, stuffing, chicken broth, pumpkin pie filling, corn, instant mashed potatoes, evaporated milk, French fried onions, French style green beans, cream of mushroom soup. Please take the items to the church office or put them in the blue tub by the office door. Thank you. Thanksgiving Basket Information Thanksgiving Day is fast approaching. What are you thankful for? I m sure, like most of us, you are thankful for family, shelter, food to eat, and most of all, God s love through Jesus Christ. Let s demonstrate that love this year (as in the past) by sharing with others. Our food pantry will be giving out Thanksgiving baskets and needs your help - both in adding to our supply of food and in providing names of those in need, especially those in our Christian family (as God s word instructs). Forms are available at the information booth as well as in the church office. Please pick one up and fill it out, returning it to the church office by November 14. Hello congregation, My name is Evan Whitted. I am a college student at Illinois State University and am raising money for a charity called Water To Thrive. This is a faith-based organization that works out of Texas to provide fresh water wells for rural communities in Africa. In rural Africa most people have to walk an average of 4 miles, one way, just to get access to clean water, while carrying a jug that weighs 40 to 60 pounds. My politics class and I have been issued a challenge to raise $5000 to build one of those fresh water wells in Ethiopia. All money that is donated through me, to the organization, will be to sponsor me on the Water Walk. The Water Walk is a 6 kilometer walk. Everyone taking part in the walk will be carrying at least a 1 gallon jug of water to symbolize what the mothers and children in these rural communities go through each day just for water. The goal for our class is to raise $5000 so we can build a well in Ethiopia. But because there are nearly 300 students in this class, we have taken it upon ourselves to try and raise $10,000 dollars so we can build two wells. My personal goal is that I alone raise $500, and if I do I raise that amount I will carry two 5 gallon buckets the entire 6 K to try to more realistically symbolize what they go through. This is an exciting cause because not only are we helping those who need in Africa, but working through a faith based organization at a secular university could plant the seed of Jesus Christ in many students. The Water Walk will be held November 12 th at ISU, so donations should be turned in by the 11 th. All donations are tax deductible. If you would like to donate or would like more information, please call me at (217) , or me at evanwhitted@gmail.com. Also, the organization s website is WaterToThrive.org Thank you for your support, donations, and prayers.

Worship 101 Worship Architect Jim Coonce I recently purchased on my Kindle, the book, The Worship Architect: A Blueprint for Designing Culturally Relevant and Biblically Faithful Services, by Constance Cherry. Dr. Cherry is a teacher of worship leading students and has written extensively on various aspects of worship. I thought I would share a few of her introductory remarks on how we define worship that is pleasing to God. Christian worship is a God-instituted gift to the church for nurturing our relationship with God and others. Worship is above all to God, with God, and for God. Therefore it is wise to discover God's expectations for Christian corporate worship. When I ask my students how they can know whether a service was pleasing to God, I often hear remarks such as these: I felt close to God, "There seemed to be a lot of people `into' worship, or Someone was converted. I suggest, however, that these are human standards for measuring the quality of worship. While the above may be desirable occurrences and while the experience of worshipers matters, the standard of measure must primarily lie elsewhere. Perhaps the evaluative questions might be simply these: (1) Did we prayerfully, intentionally, and faithfully seek to employ the aspects of worship found in Scripture that seem to be valued and necessary from God's point of view for corporate worship? and (2) Are worshipers living in increased obedience as a result of having met with God? Dr. Cherry goes on to explain that even the best worship on earth is still nothing more than a foretaste of the worship to come. I hope this gives some food for thought. From, The Worship Architect: A Blueprint for Designing Culturally Relevant and Biblically Faithful Services by Constance M. Cherry Families at First - November 16 Menu: Turkey & Dressing, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Corn Casserole, Dinner Rolls and Pies. This will be the final Families at First until February 1, 2012.
