1 State College STATE DRESS REVUE When Mary Beth Fudge of Orange County planned her 1962 ensemble, her goal was to create an outfit that would be both versatile and practical. And her plans paid off Wednesday night, when she was crowned as state dress revue winner for Mary Beth, Chapel Hill, Rt. 2, achieved her goal by making a jacket, skirt and blouse combination. The boxy jacket opens to reveal a lining that matches the blue and green on beige pongee blouse. A second skirt, pleated for a sporty look can change the entire silhouette and Spirit of this fashionwise ensemble. As second-place winner, Judy Kay Parker from Johnston County modeled an ensemble in the autumn tones of rust and gold for a semi-fitted coat featuring a stand-up collar with one over-sized button. The Wake County Miss, Helen Doggett, was declared third place winner while modeling a black and white checked gingham dress with a solid red top. Fourth place winner was Agnes Gray Shipley of Watauga and fifth place winner was Sandra Walker of Warren County. Shown above are the three top winners in the. state dress revue. " The health pageant was written by Mary Ellen Ross, Jane Batson, Donna Hoover, Abbey Foy, Brenda Edens, Sandra Costner, Theresa Ann Moore, all Pender County 4- H'ers. ORGAN MUSIC Four-H'ers have been as fortunate this year as in the past in having beautiful organ music played before each assembly. It would be worthwhile to each Club member to come in time to listen to at least half of the soothing music. The musicians we have to thank for this week's music are: Pantha Watts, Alexander County; Cecil Griffin, Nash County; and Melvin Williams, Duplin County. (By Patsy Evans) -3-

4 MESSAGE FOR RUSSIANS Show the Russians we're free!" That s the picture of America that Tar Heel 4-H'ers would like to send Cousin Ivan and Cousin Olga via Telstar. The answer given by Wilson Lowery of Trenton, Jones County, sets the tone for other delegates to State 4~H Club Week who were quizzed: I made my own decision about which way I should go and what I should do with my life. I wish we could Show that kind of freedom to the Russians. From Sheryl Waller of Pinnacle, Stokes County, came a note about freedom of religion: 4-H'ers attending Club Week are very fortunate to have Dr. Albert Edwards, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, bring an inspirational thought for the day. Yesterday, Dr. Edwards outlined the following three guides to happiness: 1. Look for and admire something beautiful each day. 2. Do some good deed each day. 3. Commit something uplifting to memory each day. Dr. Edwards also stressed the fact that these guides were simple and easy enough for anyone to do.
