1 New Hope News As New Hope we are Disciples of Christ striving to bring Heaven to earth through nurturing, serving and connecting January 16, 2013 Did you know that the difference between good and great is usually very minute? For instance the difference between hot water and water that turns into steam which can power almost anything is only 1 degree! Summit 212 is a alternative workshop that will help us examine the little things that can make a big difference: Little things that will take our congregation from good to great! Please mark your calendars (especially those in leadership roles) for this important event in the life of NHCC. Sunday, January 27th 2:30-5p.m. Oklahoma City Community College John Massey Building Inside this issue: Prayer Concerns 2 Stewardship Thought 3 Calendar 4 Regional Listening Team Leadership Training School Adult Mission Trip 6 Sunday Servants 3 Children s Choir 7 Worship Leaders Needed Nursery Volunteers Lenten Bible Study Beginning on February 20th, Pastor Josh will be leading this year s Lenten Bible Study. In this study we will delve into what Scripture has to say about the nature of sin in all of its variations You won t want to miss a single session, if you know what is good for you! The study will be offered every Wednesday at 10:30a.m. and again at 6:00p.m. Choose the time that best suits your schedule and come join us as we explore the horrifying reality of sin..
2 Page 2 New Hope News Stewardship Thought As we give in this week s offering, we stand on God s promises that the Lord will cause His blessings to come upon us as the windows of Heaven are open. 3 January 16, 2013 Needed: Volunteers to Lead Worship Do you have favorite scriptures that leads you into a worshipful mood? Have you read a poem or story that helps you better understand your relationship with God? Do you believe others would find comfort and strength by sharing these in a Call to Worship? If so, please consider volunteering to serve as Worship Leader for a month during Contact Roxanne Walker or Eugene Earsom, co -chairs of the Worship Committee, if you are interested. Pastor Josh will let you know the themes of his sermons in advance, and we can help you find resources to use to help enhance the worship experience for the entire congregation. Homes for the Homeless Project The Oklahoma Council of Churches has partnered with the Homeless Alliance to help the homeless of Oklahoma City. As part of the national 100K Homes project, the Homeless Alliance is utilizing the resources of HUD to place individuals into vacant OKC housing. The project begins in January 2013 by gathering and analyzing information from the homeless population, placing the most at-risk individuals into homes, equipping them with services and supplies, and ideally, partnering them with a church or organization for continued support. Starting next week, Jan , teams of volunteers will survey the homeless population of the Oklahoma City metro area. Those identified as best suited for transitional housing will then be matched up with newly-available vacant housing around the OKC area. Each person placed in a home will be provided with a "move-in" kit containing necessities such as linens, cookware and utensils, cleaning supplies, small appliances, basic furnishings, etc. And that's where New Hope can come in... we can collect the items themselves, or make cash donations to the Homeless Alliance, and they will use those funds to purchase the needed items. Studies over the past several years show that transitional housing resources are at a premium; many are at over 100% capacity. As transitional housing is intended for those who need some help getting back on their feet, without significant substance abuse or mental health issues, programs like this help to restore homeless people to normal society, and also help to relieve the load on the more-familiar emergency shelters, like Jesus House, City Rescue Mission, and Salvation Army.
