3 I n M e m o r y Sock it to Me Do you have a spot for old unmatched socks? Do you hold out hope of someday reuniting those single socks with their lost matches? Chances are you may never see those lost socks again, since many fall over the top of the washing machine tubs and are sucked out through the drain. Or you may have a neighbor's cat that comes into your garage, steals a sock and takes it home for additional comfy material in his cat bed. So on Lost Sock Memorial Day, take the time to say goodbye to those missing socks, wherever they are. Perhaps the best way to celebrate this strange holiday is to take those unmatched socks out of the back of the drawer and wear them! Restore them to their former glory, go footloose, and tramp unmatched for a day. It is with sincere sympathy that we report the passing of Marylee Smith. She passed away on Monday, May 18th, ten days before her 94th Birthday, in Sun Lake, Arizona, with her family surrounding her. Our hearts go out to her children, John, Debbie, Diane, Bill and Linda. Marylee's passion, for many years was her wonderful Native American Museum at the Trees of Mystery. This museum drew numerous visitors from all over the United States as well as travelers from all over the world. Go in Peace, Marylee, you nurtured much good during your time here!!

6 Klamath Berry Festival The Klamath Berry Festival is about providing a day of fun and relaxation for locals and visitors of all ages. It is also about creating ongoing fun activities throughout the year for the youth of our community. The Berry Festival Committee is non-profit and the funds we generate are dedicated to creating positive recreational activities for local youths, such as free movie nights with healthy refreshments. Participation in the Berry Festival, be it by donating, volunteering time, or having a booth, is a fun way to participate in the betterment of our close knit community. Our first public meeting was a rousing success! We got a lot of helpful suggestions to work with, while recreating with a fresh meal. In addition to good company and great complimentary food and wine, we were also treated to an impromptu live music session by dinner participants who play fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitars. Thanks to everyone who came and signed up to volunteer or donate, you guys make the festival. Hope to see you at the next public meeting, Tuesday June 16th at Camper Corral, 6pm. This one is a potluck, (a good chance to try out recipes for the festival s dessert contest!) For more information or to RSVP contact Linda at or Colette at

7 - Find the Words Running History Each May since 1912, runners have been sprinting from San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco's "Bay to Breakers" road race, proudly hailed as the oldest footrace in America. But the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot in Buffalo, New York, has been run continuously since 1896-five months longer than the Boston Marathon, which first ran in April And Buffalo's cross-border neighbors in Hamilton, Ontario, are host to the Around the Bay Road Race, - first run in 1894 and canceled only during World War I and from 1925 to The world's oldest running race may have been at Greece's Olympic Games, kicked off in 778 BC. Other races include Italy's Palo del Dreppo Verde, first run in 1208 and run for 590 years until the French invaded Italy in And Scotland's Red Horse Race has been run continuously since 1508, interrupted only by plague and war. Wow, if you were not tired before, you surely must be now!

8 Klamath This-N-That The May Senior Luncheon was once again assisted by Mr. "B" and four students from Margaret Keating. Nic-Wec Bates was the young man who helped along with the young ladies, Naquel Benites, Kee- Puen Carr and Talise Colegrove. They will be missed during the summer luncheons as they will be on their Summer Break. Remember, stay safe as you enjoy your summer activities. Belated Anniversary wishes and congratulations to Carolyn & Tom Atlas on May 14th. Also a belated wish to Linda Witvoet as she celebrated her special day on the 28th of May. Frances Melvin's 100th Birthday Party held at the Klamath Community Center on the 15th of May, it was most enjoyable. All were happy that Frances was able to be there despite the bad fall she had the week before. Just goes to show you that "You can t keep a good woman down". She had many well wishers there to help her celebrate. Just a reminder for those who subscribe to the Newsletter, as of January, 2015 the annual dues are $10.00 a year. If you have any questions, please call Jan Tom & Carolyn Atlas, owners of Mystic Forest have a lovely new Park Model RV that they are putting in to use as a new addition to their park and will be renting it out nightly and/or weekly. Tom has put a great deck and skirting on the unit. Patrick Logan has been volunteering his time doing the lawns at the Klamath Post Office. This is truly appreciated. So very sorry to report the passing of Gary Taylor (co-owner of Ravenwood Motel) He will sincerely be missed by Perry Emery, Gary's partner in life, David & Barbara Porter and many other friends in Klamath. Random Thoughts As We Age Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes; come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller! Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven t met yet! Old age is coming at a really bad time! When I was a child I thought Nap Time was a punishment...now, as a grown up, it just feels like a small vacation. The biggest lie I tell myself is..."i don't need to write that down, I'll remember it" Lord grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can & the friends to post my bail when I finally snap! I don't have gray hair, I have "wisdom highlights". I am just very wise. My people skills are just fine. It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees. The kids text me "plz" which is shorter than please. I text back "no" which is shorter than "yes"
