1 The First Church of the Brethren Roaring Spring, PA July Bloomfield St. (814) Director of Ministry: Dr. David Crumrine Living out our faith Being the hands and feet of Jesus, serving with open minds and hearts. We exist to be a community of welcome and worship where people find peace, purpose, and power through Jesus Christ. Within the last decade, social networking sites have become increasingly important tools for social interaction and communication between people As (it) becomes more prevalent, we provide more and more access to the details of our lives (and) we allow social media and a virtual network of "friends" to influence our experience and behavior. Michael Hogan writing in Psychology Today Add Church to that list of attempted interaction and communication between people using social media. Roaring Spring First Church recently opened a private page on Facebook in an attempt to provide an opportunity for our young adults who can no longer draw on the benefits of attending our physical facility. The hope is that the foundation of community built through a shared church youth experience will encourage them to continue to communicate with, support each other and apply God s promises from the Bible with each other even though they may be miles apart. While we have long sought a way to provide Christian Education to the young people who have moved on to college, and then to employment, their shared experiences while here provided a positive foundation of Christ s teaching. Our new online community provides them the chance to stay a part of their roots, keeping those who choose to join in on social interaction and communication with those who shared their CBYF experiences. While also providing Biblical teaching and devotions, we also hope the site can become a place where the age group feels free to share old photos and remembrances of their time in the church. If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming part of the community, whether you have found a new church home or not, simply search Facebook for RS First Church Online Community. For now, we are keeping the page private to foster the community we hope to engage, so request to be added, and wait for the door to be opened! Pastor Dave

4 Windows may be given in honor or memory of someone, or just in honor of those who serve Him as one of the windows has been. A great idea is for a family to combine their resources for a window in honor or memory of a loved one. Commemorative plaques will be placed on each window. Windows will be installed where the need is greatest. Return this form to the church office with your donation. Donation: $400 Let s work together to replace the windows throughout the church (not including stained glass windows). WINDOW REPLACEMENT PROGRAM IN MEMORY OF IN HONOR OF NAME FROM Return to office with donation As You Wish by Jude Devereaux Sixty-year-old Olivia s first marriage was long and unhappy, but now she is a newlywed, thrilled to finally be starting her life with the man she s always truly loved even if they are getting a late start. Kathy is in her forties and married to a handsome, successful businessman. Theirs would be a fairy-tale romance if it weren t for one problem: he s passionately in love with someone else! Twentysomething Elise is also in a troubled marriage, stuck with the man her wealthy parents chose for her. Now that he has a pregnant mistress, he seems willing to go to drastic lengths to take Elise out of the picture. Though each of them wound up at the Summerhouse for separate reasons, it s not long before they begin to open up about their regrets, their wishes and their dreams. And when they re presented with the opportunity of a lifetime a chance to right the wrongs of their past all three discover what can happen when dreams really do come true. 2 Joe & Bobbi Price 4 Hank & Mary Ann Meetze 5 Jeremiah & Nichole Detwiler 8 Kevin & Megan Schneider 12 Sherwood & Susan Bumbarger 19 Dave & Chris Brumbaugh Patrick & Karen Long 21 Ed & Virginia Bopp 22 Pete & Kay Rinker 25 Monte & Kim Smith 26 Joseph & Emily Oakes Bret & Reva Smith 27 Mark & Lori Loucks

8 I would like to express my appreciation to the congregation of First Church for their thoughtfulness during my recent illness. Thank you to Pastor Dave for his visit and phone calls, the prayer shawl ministry, those who called and sent cards, and to the many who prayed for my healing. May is a bit of a blur but June finds me gaining strength - which gives me hope the worst is over. God bless you all - Jeanne Sollenberger I wish to thank my church family for all the prayers, cards, food and all the support you have given me since the passing of my dear wife Jan. Gary Speck J O Y Picnic Just Older Youth 5 pm in the Fellowship Hall on July 17 th Watch bulletins for more information GOOD GRIEF The newly formed grief support group held their first gathering on June 12 in the church s Overflow Room. Those who were able to attend felt loved, supported and comforted by one another, and most importantly, we felt God s presence. We plan to gather again on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:00pm in the Overflow Room. The door remains open to anyone in our church family who has experienced the loss of a loved one by separation, divorce or death. Please plan to join us as we gather informally to share our stories and pray for one another s healing. If you have questions or concerns, please speak with me, Kaye Russell ( ). If there are children or teenagers struggling with grief sadness, please talk with either Pastor Dave or Kaye Russell for assistance in securing proper counseling. Be the Light of Christ Know the Scripture Beginning Tuesday, July 3 rd and continuing every Tuesday in July, 9:30 am to 10:45 am, you are invited to a Bible Study with Dan Hammel in the Alpha Classroom. Dan is looking forward to continuing June s opportunity with new scripture topics yet to be determined. We are anticipating having another Summer Study during August. Kaye Russell is willing to answer any questions. 8 am July 21, 2018 New Frontier
