1 The First Church of the Brethren Roaring Spring, PA May Bloomfield St. (814) Director of : Dr. David Crumrine Living out our faith Being the hands and feet of Jesus, serving with open minds and hearts. We exist to be a community of welcome and worship where people find peace, purpose, and power through Jesus Christ. Whether you realize it or not, your life is telling a story. All of your words, your actions and your relationships combine to tell a story about you, and what is important to you. Add all of those individual stories up, and we get a bigger story..that of the our church, and that of all followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus was and is- a master story-teller, in fact, Mark 4:34a tells us that He did not say anything to them without using a parable. The Gospels record at least 35 different parables used by Jesus believing that the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them (Matthew 13:11). In other words, not only are stories excellent ways to communicate and illustrate the truths he wishes to impart for those who want to know them, they easily stick with others and give the Holy Spirit time to work in those who might not be ready to hear those truths until later. Living Parables is the theme selected for the 2018 Annual Conference Moderator Samuel Sarpiya. Annual Conference this year is to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio July 4-8 th. Sparpiya says Being a Living Parable is the foundational call to being involved with the ministries of Jesus, which call us to work for peace, reconciliation and the transformation of all things visible and invisible. He goes on to share his belief that being a Living Parable is a call to not just telling information, but being being present in a world that so desperately needs to see Christ in action. And that is our mission here at Roaring Spring First Church.to not just be a story-teller in words only. But instead to use our lives to tell the story of Jesus through our actions and in our relationships and our service by being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ to those around us. Pastor Dave

5 All Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg Mrs. Sookie Poole of Point Clear, Alabama, has just married off the last of her daughters and is looking forward to relaxing and perhaps traveling with her husband, Earle. The only thing left to contend with is her mother, the formidable Lenore Simmons Krackenberry. Lenore may be a lot of fun for other people, but is, for the most part, an overbearing presence for her daughter. Then one day, quite by accident, Sookie discovers a secret about her mother s 8 am May 19 The Dream past that knocks her for a loop and suddenly calls into question everything she ever thought she knew about herself, her family, and her future. Sookie begins a search for answers that takes her to California, the Midwest, and back in time, to the 1940s, when an irrepressible woman named Fritzi takes on the job of running her family s filling station. Soon truck drivers are changing their routes to fill up at the All-Girl Filling Station. Then, Fritzi sees an opportunity for an even more groundbreaking adventure. As Sookie learns about the adventures of the girls at the All-Girl Filling Station, she finds herself with new inspiration for her own life. Join us in the Parlor at 10 am on Monday, May 21 st as we discuss the this hilarious novel about two women who are forced to reimagine who they are. Someday Someday is a snake whose tongue has mastered the talk of deception. Someday, it hisses, I ll take her on that cruise...we ll have time to sit and chat... But you know the truth before I even write it, don t you? Someday never comes! Wise up! Invest the time. Send the flowers. Write the letter. Make the apology. Take the trip. Purchase the gift. Do it! The seized opportunity brings joy the neglected one brings only regret!
