1 May - June 2017 Vol. 57, No. 3 My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching. Proverbs 6:20 (ESV)
2 FROM THE BISHOP S DESK I P H C C O R E V A L U E S : New Horizons Ministries joins with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church to embrace and uphold our IPHC Seven Core Values: Scripture, Pentecost, Holiness, Christ s Kingdom, All Generations, Justice and Generosity. In 2017, our focus is Christ s Kingdom. The first 3 values are foundational and the latter 3 are functional or relational. KINGDOM DYNAMICS Christ s Kingdom is mentioned throughout Scripture. It is not just a present Kingdom but an eternal Kingdom. The Church must extend the borders of the Kingdom from church planting to social ministries that include personal acts of grace and kindness. At times, kingdom of heaven has been misinterpreted as a place of angels, harps and streets of gold, when it is not about people going to heaven, but about the rule of heaven coming to earth. The Kingdom is where the King is. KINGDOM IMPLICATIONS The two-fold implication of church planting and social ministries is important to Christ s Kingdom. Church planting is not just a group of people, but also a property/place to have a permanent place of worship that will influence and impact the surrounding area and community. Social ministry is a channel of demonstrating Christ s love to unreached people. Randell O. Drake NHM Bishop nhmbishop@gmail.com KINGDOM INSIGHTS FOR TODAY Like the leaven mentioned in Matthew 13:33-35, Christ s Kingdom can permeate the surroundings quietly and yet powerfully changing the outcome of life. Churchy language can distract from The Gospel, if the unsaved do not understand our vocabulary. Let us share the Good News with our world so they are drawn to it, not just us. Let us value Christ s Kingdom. May we never be satisfied with the number we have in our local churches as we build Christ s Kingdom, evangelizing and discipling people as they make decisions to come out of a life bound for hell and place their trust in Jesus Christ making heaven their eternal destiny. We value Christ s Kingdom. MINISTERS WIVES FELLOWSHIP F L O W E R S F O R N O W I watched him as they lowered his mother s casket into the ground on that wet, dreary morning. His feet were firmly planted in the muddy soil. He shifted his head back and forth as if to make sure she was properly and gently placed in her earthly resting spot. He had been in our youth group but was now an adult man. His mother was one of our lifelong friends. She was eulogized as a Godly woman with an infectious laugh. Disease took her away. Her life and death affected many. She will be missed. We are no stranger to death and the open wound it leaves on our hearts. We long for another conversation, another hug or just a few minutes of being in the presence of the one who touched our hearts. Life is short, we know that. Respectfully, the pallbearers placed their boutonnieres on the casket and family members took a rose for remembrance sake. Flowers to honor the dead. I love every part of remembering those who have passed but I m learning to pay tribute to those who are currently touching our hearts. How about you? How do we honor and show love to those living? 1. Spend time 2. Really Listen 3. Meet Needs 4. Affirming Words 5. Say Thank You 6. Give Flowers Paul encourages us in Romans 12:10, Honor one another above yourselves. John speaks of it again in 1 John 4:12, No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. Remember singing, This is my commandment that ye love one another, that your joy may be full? Speak life and love into people! Pay tribute whenever possible. Be an encourager. Affirm whenever possible. Go ahead and buy those flowers to give to someone! Book Recommendation: Silver Boxes by Florence Littauer 2 Michelle Drake nhmministerswives@gmail.com
