2 FROM THE BISHOP S DESK Previously, I wrote in this column about the vision and mission of NHM. Our name New Horizons Ministries is prophetic and tantamount to our destiny. As a fellowship and conference of 85 churches, 300+ ministers and church members, we have the resources and people to impact our present geographical locations while preparing to move into new territory, new ministries and new victories, spiritually, numerically and financially. Through Dynamic Church Planting International (DCPI), we have trained over 25 individuals who are preparing to plant a church. The excitement, passion and vision of these equipped men and women will ignite a return to the church planting of Acts as we move forward in reaching our world for Jesus. Every NHM pastor should strongly consider attending a DCPI training to see what God would birth in him and his congregation. Often, when vision and mission are reviewed, a restructuring and revitalization occurs. This is the case with our NHM Discipleship Ministries. Over the past 3 decades, NHM has benefitted from and appreciated the leadership of Don Keizor, Gary Graves and Harley Wideman, as they led us in Christian Education. Now, after extensive prayer, research and consideration, our Discipleship Ministries will be led by a DM Cabinet of individuals who will specialize in specific areas of ministry to provide fresh ideas, focused intentions and fruitful investment of time, talent and teamwork. This DM Cabinet will be a team dedicated to providing the best programs and ministries to our local churches and NHM as a whole. Bishop Randell O. Drake nhmbishop@gmail.com One of the signs of a healthy church as demonstrated in Acts 2 when the First Church began is change. With people being added to the church daily, with the favor of God and all the people, with devotion to teaching, fellowship, communion and prayer, with a desire to give of finances and abilities, with miraculous signs and wonders being seen, with worship, with love for one another, the Early Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit and focused on the death and resurrection of Jesus, turned their world upside down by changing their culture and communities. God has promised NHM that we will see our world change, our churches revitalized, our people discipled, our boundaries expanded and our vision become destiny. Together, we can accomplish His Plan. We will Dare 2 Dream while On the Road to Destiny! one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Many of us grew up reciting the Pledge of Allegiance each morning of our school day. We continue to take our stand as we attend sporting events by placing our hand over our hearts and offering up the recitation. But have we taken the time to ponder how this justice for all is seen through the scriptures? We Prayerfully Value Justice is one of our IPHC Seven Core Values. True justice can only be achieved with the Word of God as our guide. God holds our treatment of one another in such a high regard that in the Ten Commandments three relate to God and the other seven to one another. Romans 13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. When we wake up each morning our prayer should be, Lord, help me to see others as you see them. Let my eyes be your lens of love. Pastor s wives, as we view others through this lens of love, life s diverse situations will not alter our perceptions, and as we embody God s divine justice, we, will carry out the divine mandate of being a Place of Hope and a People of Promise. the Valuable... We believe Justice includes Equity Justice for the Oppressed Justice for Male and Female Justice for the Least of These The goal of the IPHC is to be distinct, a separate people who advocate for justice among all people. (Exodus33:16: Isaiah 58:6). We must be a people who declare the freedom Christ alone bring to all who suffer bondage, both physical and spiritual (2 Corinthians 3:17). We must not just deal with the effects of injustice and ignore the underlying causes. We dare not negate factors embedded in laws, economic structures, and popular culture (lost without God), that reinforces injustice. We cannot be successful and significant until we get below the surface and deal with the roots of the problems. We can show God s love by giving the gifts of time, listening, patience, and kindness Let us be called Christians! (Acts 11:26) First Lady Michelle L. Drake nhmministerswives@gmail.com
