Bishop Greg Amos Bishop s Editorial UNDENIABLE It all began on a normal day s trip to the temple to pray. Peter and John had done it many times before even with Jesus. The man born lame was laid here daily asking for donations. This day however would prove anything but normal. The gate was called Beautiful. Strong s Concordance defines the Greek word as, belonging to the right hour or season (timely). What a wonderful setting. Not only at the temple at a bustling hour but the right season. No doubt the disciples and even Jesus had passed this man before today but today was his day. Everyone involved had entered a new season for what was about to unfold was indeed undeniable. Lame he was from his mother s womb. Most worshippers that passed this way to pray had no doubt heard the story of his affliction. He d never known the joys of walking to the temple but before this day was over he would be walking and leaping and praising God in the temple. What a beautiful thing! Acts 3:9 says clearly that all the people saw him walking and praising God. The story goes on of Peter s sermon sharing about Jesus. This miracle opened an immediate platform to share the Gospel resulting in about 5,000 men becoming believers! (Acts 4:4) This miracle also created another platform, however this one, not as pleasant. They were locked up for the night. The religious leaders were trying to silence preaching in the name of Jesus. An interesting statement is given in Acts 4:16, What shall we do to these men? For that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. They didn t like it but they couldn t deny it. Indeed an undeniable thing had happened! No doubt the disciples and even Jesus had passed this man before today but today was his day. Recently I believe I heard the Spirit of the Lord saying: "I am raising up an undeniable generation." When I say generation I m not referring to age as much as a mentality. Sadly the church world has done much to breed skepticism when it comes to the miraculous but you and I know there is a genuine move of God. I am convinced God is up to something big in the earth and in His Church. Something that will cause people to see and recognize that it had to be God! At this point I declare God is raising up: 1. An Undeniable People people who refuse to

Editor s Message continued Bishop Greg Amos UNDENIABLE give in. People who know how to pray and praise when circumstances say quit. A people that others recognize they ve been with Jesus! 2. An Undeniable Presence the reality of the fragrance that comes from being in His presence. The reality of hearing His voice louder and more clearly than any other. The church looking and behaving more and more like Jesus. 3. An Undeniable Power miracles, signs and wonders not just through the hands of the preachers but through us all and often outside the church walls. A people not seeking signs but who have signs following them. Even people who don t believe in miracles could also say, I don t know about all your questions but one thing I know, I once was blind but now I see! I m not just speaking of physical signs but lives so changed by the power of God that others have to acknowledge only God could have done that. I trust this bears witness with your spirit. I ask you to join me in praying: Holy Spirit bring forth an undeniable generation. Make me a part. May we not only be a part but lead others into this realization as well. Forgive me/ us where I/we have denied you. Mold us into an undeniable people who walk in your undeniable presence and power. May the world see an undeniable Jesus in me/us! For your name's sake. Amen! Greg Rev. Greg Amos serves as Superintendent & Bishop of the South Carolina Conference 4 THE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE

NEW WEBSITE IS HERE SCIPHC.ORG On Sunday morning, March 23, 2014, it was my honor and privilege to be a part of the Altar Dedication services at the Edgewood Pentecostal Holiness Church in Columbia, South Carolina. A copy of the Litany Of Altar Dedication is listed below. Pastor, Rev. Mrs. Amber Floyd had a very blessed and eventful day planned. She and her Administrative Council and congregation are to be highly commended for all the hard work that they had done in making this day possible. During the morning worship service, Pastor Floyd recognized and made a special presentation of a beautiful plaque to Mr. Lanny Brazell, Board Member, who had spent endless hours working on the altars and preparing them to be installed in the Edgewood Sanctuary. She also recognized and honored Mr. Tom Mitchum for helping Mr. Brazell with the altars. Pastor Floyd also presented a special appreciation plaque to me in helping to secure these altars for them. She also gave a special thank you to the South Carolina Conference for donating a part of their heritage to the Edgewood PHC. Pastor Floyd and her congregation are doing a great job in the Columbia District in getting the gospel out to the families of the Edgewood Community. by Rev. H. 6 Let s Go Somewhere Else He {Jesus} said to them, Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for. - Mark 1:38 - Instead of returning with his disciples to Capernaum, as they expected He would, and especially since there was such a concourse of people that had gathered together, He proposes to go to "the next towns" or "village cities"; towns that were neither villages, nor cities, but between both, as the word signifies. Those places intermediate between towns and villages, with which the western side of the Sea of Galilee was studded. Jesus had been preaching in Capernaum, the day before, and had confirmed His doctrine by miracles, which was sufficient for the present, and therefore He thought it necessary to go somewhere else, and ordered His disciples to go likewise. It was a surprising decision for Jesus to leave the eager, excited throngs in Capernaum for the country town or village cities without walls or much importance. There are a lot of lessons from this passage but to me I hear the Lord saying to us as individuals, to us as churches and to us as a Conference, we ve been here long enough, it s time to move on. I believe that we are entering into a time where the Lord wants to take us somewhere else. Where we are is not all that bad, great things are happening but He wants to take us somewhere else. It is so easy to become complacent or comfortable where we are. Where we are presents little or no challenge but to go somewhere else will require a 6 THE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE greater challenge; where we are requires little effort but to go somewhere else will require more effort; where we are requires minimal commitment but to go somewhere else will require greater commitment; where we are has little stress but to go somewhere else will increase our stress; where we are requires little work but to go somewhere else will require more work. The Lord wants to move us from where we are to somewhere else. In the verses following, Jesus cast out demons and healed a leper of leprosy. The question I believe the Lord is asking us is, are we willing and ready to go somewhere else with Him? Are we ready to experience the great things He has for us as we follow Him somewhere else? One more thing, I believe the Lord is saying to the Church, it is time to move out from your city and go somewhere else, to other cities and towns, to other nations around the world. It may even be time to move out to those places that are less desirable. It may be time to go somewhere else where there are no walls of protection like we are in now. I believe the Lord is calling us to go from city to city with this lifetransforming message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Rev. M. Dean Morgan serves as Assistant Superintendent & World Missions Director

World Missions What a great time we had at the 2014 Great Commission Meals. The Lord truly was with us as we celebrated what each of you had done for World Missions in 2013 and as we cast vision for Special thanks to Matt Bennett, Harold Dalton, and Max Barroso for coming and sharing the vision of World Missions Ministries. There are a few things that I would like to call to your attention that we mentioned in the Great Commission Meals. First, in addition to our GO offering our special project this year will be helping to raise funds for a coffee house in Portugal. Tony and Patti Guasco, our missionaries to Portugal are starting a coffee house to reach the people of Portugal and we want to partner with them in this effort. Please help us as we join hands with Tony and Patti in this effort. Second, through the efforts of our missionaries Tim and Beth Salley a new School of Ministry will be starting in Karachi Pakistan. Karachi is the largest and most populous metropolitan city of Pakistan and it s the main seaport and financial center, as well as the capital of Sindh province. The city had an estimated population of over 23.5 million people as of 2013, and a density of nearly 6,000 people per square kilometer (15,500 per square mile). Karachi is the 3rd largest city in the world by population within city limits, the 11th largest urban agglomeration in the world and the largest city in the Muslim world. Before long Pakistan will surpass Indonesia as the world s most populous Muslim country. Missions Third, our Global Outreach offering goal this year is $400,000. Please help us as we work together to reach this goal. Please consider giving a day s wage. If all of us would give a day s wage we would have no problem in meeting our goal. Finally, don t forget to support our missionaries on a monthly basis. Without your support our missionaries would not be able to go to the mission field and without your support they would not be able to stay on the mission field. If you need some information about missionaries to support please feel free to contact our office. Evangelism This year we are emphasizing 14 in We are asking each church with the help of the Holy Spirit to do their best to win 14 people to the Lord in For many of you that will not be much of a challenge since you are surpassing that already but for others it may be a challenge. If each church would win at least 14 people this year to the Lord we would see over two thousand souls born into the Kingdom of God in the South Carolina Conference. Will you join with us in this effort as we reach people for Jesus? The inauguration date for the School of Ministry in Pakistan is June 12, 2014 and the Salley s need help in raising funds for the material to be translated into the Urdu language. Funds needed are $5,650. Please pray and help with this if possible. Earmark donations: Pakistan SOM translation - #17007P. THE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE 7

We had eleven churches participate with approximately 250 girls and women. Our guest speaker for the weekend was Miss Dina Henderson from Columbia, South Carolina. She is a spirit filled woman of God who ministered to our girls from her heart. She told our girls that purity requires God's strength and is a heart choice. The girls were encouraged to display Godly morals, in even the most difficult situations. This in return would develop the confidence, the strength, and the self- worth they need to succeed in life no matter what gets thrown their way. Many girls received blessings from the Lord along with twenty three girls giving their hearts to God. The girls received a promise ring and pledged their commitment to God. They made a promise to God to be pure in heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit. God s presence strengthens us as we respond to His love. My prayers are that God will guide them as they seek Him each day. Roxie Lewis, S.C. Girls' Ministries Director THE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE 13

S o u t h C a r o l i n a W o m e n s M i n i s t r i e s EQUIPPING the WARRIOR Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. - Matthew 28: S o u t h C a r o l i n a W o m e n s M i n i s t r i e s In 2014 we, the SC IPHC Women s Ministries, want to see ladies delivered, renewed, and energized in the Holy Spirit! To accomplish this goal we have shed the strappings of our former selves, choosing to don the armor of God through faith in our reigning Captain, the Lord of Hosts. We are excited, enthused, encouraged, motivated, impassioned, and eager to see what God has in store for the great women of our Conference this year! The theme and goal for these 12 months has become more than a slogan, it is our strategy, our cry, to serve notice throughout the heavens.be warned, we are Equipping The Warrior! To accomplish this, the Local Church Board members, along with the SCWM Board Members and District Directors, met on a beautiful day in January at the Conference Dining Hall to prepare our ladies for the year ahead. As the crowd of women poured into the room you could hear the sweet sounds of laughter from happy hearts. Hugs and excited greetings abounded as friends 16 THE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE

caught up with those they hadn t seen in a while. What a beautiful sight and sound to see everyone so emboldened about gathering for a time of training. It was such a time of reassurance and thankfulness to see ladies filling the room that were ready to take WM s into a new season in the power and anointing of Jesus Christ. While preparing for the Council, I felt really inspired to start the meeting off on a totally different note! God kept one particular song echoing in my ear throughout the night before the meeting. In God-fashion, He took me completely out of my comfort zone as I sang the old chorus, Something Beautiful to those present. I felt God wanted each one reminded and encouraged that no matter how we may feel about ourselves, we are beautiful. Our Savior understands all of our confusion, brokenness, and strife. No matter what we have to offer Him, He will make something beautiful of our lives! Ladies of the SC IPHC Women s Ministries.YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! To ensure the day was a complete success, our WM Board tenaciously worked with excellence prior to and during the meeting. I am so blessed to have women who will go to any length to equip their Directors. In the spirit of fun they decided to do a skit, and what better way to get a large group s attention than to use a throwback to The Three Stooges! Their antics gave the ladies an understanding of all WM reports to be completed throughout the year, enlightening them with information about Feast of Ingathering and Falcon, encouraging ladies to Stay In Touch with our missionaries, promoting churches to get involved with Girl s Ministries, to enable all ladies to have a complete understanding of the new Director s Resource. For all that was done, I d like to give special thanks to Lynn Hood, Myrlee Powers, Pat Catledge, Linda Parnell, Tamara Amos, and Roxie Lewis for a job well done. When we take a picture of the whole day and examine it, we find a powerful announcement of what is to come for the SC IPHC Women s Ministries. The stage has been set, goals have been given, and ladies have been equipped through anointed training. Our directors are now armed and dangerous and our churches should be on the lookout, they re coming with a mandate from heaven. Our local houses of worship and communities are the targets and we re aiming to equip each woman there with the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit that tears down strongholds and routs the enemy s forces. There is nothing that can stop us; we are the children of the King who has never lost a battle! Let it be known, the King s army is coming, and we re taking territory for the Kingdom of God! 18 Archives Rev. & Mrs. D. Sherrill (Velvalee) Orvin WHERE Royal Elders ARE THEY Rev. Sherrill Orvin was born and raised in the Macedonia section of Berkeley County called the Oak Grove community. He was saved at an early age under the ministry of Rev. James R. McNeill. On June 1, 1962, Rev. N. D. Sellers performed the wedding ceremony for Sherrill and his sweetheart, Velvalee and they will soon be celebrating 52 years of marriage. God blessed them with two children, Vicki and Chris (who went home to be with his Lord in August, 2009). Today they have two grandchildren, Rochelle and Tyler. Sherrill began his ministerial career by receiving his Minister s License in 1968 and was Ordained in To further prepare himself for ministry, he attended Holmes Bible College, Bob Jones University and Central Wesleyan College. Requiring one year of pastoral ministry for the Mission Field, he pastored the Harmon Memorial PHC in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The Orvins served for 8 years in Hong Kong from 1973 until While in Hong Kong, Sherrill founded the Wing Kwong PHC. Today the Wing Kwong PHC is the largest church on the PHC Mission Field with over 6,600 in attendance on Sunday morning. During his time in Hong Kong, Sherrill recognized the tremendous contribution of Rev. Miss Leona Causey who served in Hong Kong. He also enjoyed a fruitful relationship with Dr. Joseph E. Pappy Campbell who was very instrumental in raising funds for the Wing Kwong High School. Today the work in Hong Kong continues to grow rapidly under the splendid leadership of Superintendent Donovan Ng. NOW? After coming back to Macedonia from Hong Kong, Sherrill fully intended to begin pastoring in the South Carolina Conference. Rev. B. E. Underwood, then World Missions Director for the IPHC had different plans. Rev. Underwood invited Sherrill to Oklahoma City and asked him to develop the People To People Ministry of the IPHC. There, he spent 25 years in People to People before retiring in People To People became the only self-supporting ministry in the IPHC and continues to be the same today. At the present time, People To People ministers to over 10,000 children per day. During his time in Oklahoma City, Sherrill worked with 4 different World Missions Directors, Rev. B. E. Underwood, Rev. Robert L. Rex, Rev. J. D. Simmons, Sr. and Rev. M. Donald Duncan. Today, Sherrill and Velvalee attend the Oak Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church where he teaches the Adult Sunday School class every Sunday morning in the church sanctuary with around 50 in attendance. He also serves on the Conference Archives Committee as well as the standing Conference Memoirs Committee. Sherrill was also a member of the 2010 Centennial Celebration Committee for the South Carolina Conference. Sherrill s hobbies today include raising miniature donkeys (which by the way, he gives each one a very special OKC name). He is also involved in the restoration of old cars. In giving advice to younger ministers and older ministers alike, Sherrill said there are two things you need to do. First of all, know your calling. Be sure that you are working and serving where you feel God desires you to be. Secondly, and probably the most important, be faithful to that calling. 18 THE CHALLENGE MAGAZINE

? WHERE Royal Elders ARE THEYNOW Rev. & Mrs. Wylie (Mary) Evans the ministry. Rev. Wylie Evans and his first wife, Kathleen accepted the Lord under the ministry of Rev. L. K. Weatherford in Scranton, South Carolina. From that point, Wylie began to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit in directing his life and his calling to He was licensed in the South Carolina Conference of the IPHC on August 23, 1952 and ordained on August 14, His ministry has spanned over almost 62 years and continues until today. Rev. Evans has pastored a number of churches in the South Carolina Conference. Some of those churches include: Pinedale, Johnsonville (twice), Highway (twice), Socastee (11 years), Ebenezer, Lakewood (which he organized and pastored 3 times), Darlington, Lighthouse (Goose Creek), Freemont Mission (13 months), Kingstree (14 months) and Emmanuel. During this time, Rev. Evans built 2 churches and 3 parsonages. He also served as Conference Evangelist for 7 years and enjoyed good success in preaching in hundreds of churches with many souls being won into the Kingdom of God. For 25 years his ministry was centered in the Socastee community. Rev. Evans said that more souls were saved in that area and he did more materially there than in any area he served in the IPHC. During his many years of ministry, he has enjoyed pastoring, preaching and evangelizing. Many times he felt that he was privileged to preach in churches where he was not even qualified to serve. Rev. Evans said the Lord has blessed him with three wonderful wives. He and his first wife, Kathleen grew up together. They were married almost 55 years when she had her home going. He was then married to his second wife, Mazie for 10 years and they enjoyed ministry together until her death. He has been married to his wife, Mary, now for almost 3 years. Together, they are enjoying the work of the Lord together. Wylie has one son, Larry, who lives in Lake City. His daughter, Judy, died in He is blessed with one grandchild and one greatgrandchild. Presently, Wylie and Mary live in Hemingway and Lake City. Wylie said that today, at the age of 90, he enjoys doing auto detailing in Lake City. But his favorite thing to do is preaching. He is ready at anytime to go fill a pulpit or preach at any church when invited. To younger ministers today, Rev. Evans said some of the most important things to do are: have a good relationship with God; be sure you are full of the Holy Ghost; keep up your prayer life; and keep the right attitude. He said that he learned to spend more time in prayer than working on cars by making his Thursday car day his Thursday prayer day. He attributes his ministry success to prayer and to the study of the Word of God. Rev. Evans said that when he moved back to Lake City, he did not move there to retire. The Lord has blessed his many years of ministry and he continues to enjoy his journey in ministry and he said he is having a good time in his life today. written by H.
