Dear church family and friends, This week I had the opportunity to officiate in the funeral for my uncle. It was an opportunity to speak about the eternal truths from the Bible, about why we are here and what life is about. It was also a time to reflect about my uncle s life. A few years ago, when I was in Richmond I spent the night with this uncle and my aunt (his wife). They were staying upstairs. I was spending the night downstairs. After everyone had gone to bed, I noticed a light bobbing up and down that was coming down the staircase. It was my uncle. He came to offer me a flashlight to help me navigate in the dark in case I needed to get to the bathroom. Here was a man in his late 80 s, unsteady on his feet, who traveled down a steep flight of stairs to give me a flashlight to guide me to a bathroom 20 feet away! I was deeply touched by his kindness and will never forget it. A note came in the mail recently which was addressed to our church. It was from John and Gay Jenkins, who had booth #107 at the Fall Fling. Their note said, Dearest Baptist Friends, Thank you so very much for all your help during the Wise Fall Fling! You were so kind to roll up your sleeves and jump right into helping us. We enjoyed the gift bag. What is it about being 70-some years old, opening a gift bag, so excited just as if we were still in a one-room school 60 years ago getting a Christmas treat bag. Please pass the word, Thank you, Thank you. Acts of kindness, even small ones, are remembered. Thank you for the kindness you have already extended in countless ways to countless people. It does make a difference! Imagine how our church can affect our community by showering people with hundreds and thousands of acts of kindness in Jesus name! Be on the lookout for those opportunities. WOMEN ON MISSION Women on Mission meeting will be held at WBC in the Conference Room from 2-4pm on November 12th and December 10th. Social Services Presentation Sunday, November 8th Be sure to join us during Worship on Sunday, November 8th for a special presentation from the Wise County Department of Social Services. Jessica Turner and Cindy Browning from Adult Protective Services Division at the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services will be with us to inform us on how we can assist and make us aware of a vulnerable and often forgotten group of individuals. Wise Baptist Church has been helping by collecting their food and clothing needs, through the Grab N Go Ministry. Our church has made this our year round mission to help these caring and dedicated social workers to help those who are in need.

3 From Leigh As a child, our home church only observed Communion once a quarter. It was quite a ritual, too. The table was covered with a white cloth. The servers would come to the front and uncover the trays that held the saltine crackers and the purple grape juice. After everyone was served, it was always an adventure to watch the servers re-cover the elements. I think it is interesting what we remember. I don t recall anything about the words that were said. But, I remember the excitement of knowing this was a special occasion. As I have matured and experienced lots of life, I must admit I am still excited for Holy Communion every time. I am, of course, less interested in the servers and the saltines but much more aware now of needs around me and in my own heart as I approach the Holy Table. Yesterday the choir sang an anthem that really touched my heart, Come, Dine with Me. The chorus wrapped it up: Come, ye weary and worn. I have broken the bread. There are many days that we feel weary and worn. But I am so thankful to serve a God that has strong, open arms to welcome me no matter what! Our children s ministry team is really working hard to reach out in to our community to welcome families into our church. Please join me in praying for God to send us new families with children. Also pray that we will be ready and able and willing when God answers! TRUTH will rehearse at 9 am on Sunday and the Jubilation Ringers will rehearse at 5 pm. I am praying for all of you this week. Pray for each other, too. Blessings, Leigh YOUTH: Thank you, Jessica, for providing our meal on Sunday evening the taco soup was awesome! Our youth are continuing to bring their Change for Change. It is great to see them excited about what we can do together to help those in need. We are going to sponsor the education of a child in Belize for one year. We will receive information on our child soon and we will share that with you. We are excited to see how this will impact the life of this child and the life of the FLOCK. IMPROMPTU ELECTION DAY FLOCK-IN! Tonight, the Flock is invited to gather at the youth building around 9 pm for an overnight time of fellowship. Mark Your Calendar Thanks to your generous donations, Tabitha Ray was able to purchase 52 Sweetcases for the Foster Child program of Wise County. Now it is time to decorate them! We will have a decorating party in the WBC Fellowship Hall on Saturday, November 14 at 4:00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided. This is a project for everyone no matter your age or gender! SUNDAY SCHOOL Join us at 10 am for Sunday school on Sunday mornings. There are classes for all ages. It is a great way to get to know people and to grow spiritually. Make plans to attend. You will be glad you did!

4 OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOX PROJECT It is time!! WBC is once again participating in the OCC shoebox project. Boxes ($1 donation) are available for your use and can be found in the Church foyer. Gift suggestions: start with a large toy that a child will cherish, like a beautiful doll, a deflated soccer ball with pump, or a plush stuffed animal. Then fill the box completely, adding quality items like cars, musical instruments, puzzles, jump ropes, school supplies such as pencils, pens, crayons, notebooks, coloring books, non-liquid hygiene items such as toothbrushes, bar soap, wash clothes, combs, etc.. Also include a donation of $7 for shipping cost. We will dedicate the boxes in worship on Sunday, November 22. If you would like the youth to do your shopping, contact Leigh by November 15. WBC RELAY CENTER NOVEMBER 16TH 23RD Wise Baptist Church will again serve as a relay center for Operation Christmas Child. What does this mean? We will receive shoe boxes from other churches, community groups, individuals, and families during National Collection Week, November 16th-23rd. We will then relay those boxes to the collection center in Big Stone Gap. How can you help? WBC needs to staff our relay center, The Rock, during that collection week according to the following schedule: Monday, Nov. 16th, Tuesday, Nov. 17th, Thursday, Nov. 19th and Friday, Nov. 20th 4-7pm; Wednesday, Nov. 18th 3-6pm; Saturday, Nov. 21st 12-3pm; Sunday, November pm and Monday, Nov. 23rd 9am-Noon If you are available during any of these times, please contact Rebecca Osborne at Osbornes4God@aol.com or (276) PROCESSING CENTER NOVEMBER 30TH WBC will volunteer at the OCC Center in Boone, NC on Monday, Nov. 30th from 1-6pm. If interested sign up on Sundays communication card or contact Rebecca Osborne at (276) FINANCIAL COMMITTEE UPDATE 9/6/15 11/1/15 At the annual business meeting on August 26 th, Wise Baptist Church passed a provisional budget for the church year. This budget is due to be revisited after the first three months of the church year. The Finance Committee offers the following update on the General Fund giving: Wise Baptist Church General Fund Giving Summary 9/6/15-11/1/15 General Fund Receipts To Date $51,311 General Fund Needed To Date $52,621 Variance ($1,310) Average Weekly Variance ($46) Weekly General Fund Budget $5,847 We are now two months into our new church year and this update shows our general fund receipts compared to our budgeted needs to ensure the congregation is aware of our financial position ahead of the three month mark.
