FROM THE PASTOR S PEN I feel much sadness as I announce to you my resignation as your Interim Pastor. I will continue my work with you through the first week in March, and my last Sunday will be March 6. I leave with a heart full of wonderful memories and with a testimony that There is, in Wise, Virginia, a church where the Lord has poured out His blessings and where the Lord is very present and at work. When I was pastor at First Baptist Church in High Point, NC, I had a Sunday school teacher to come to me after worship and tell me a story that has challenged me ever since. Susan Howard told me that she taught her six-year-old Sunday school class that morning, and at the end of her lesson on God Made the Animals, little Leslie raised her hand and said: Mrs. Howard, humans are animals too. Susan replied, Yes they are. Humans are the highest form of animal. She said Leslie looked at her for a moment and then said: Mrs. Howard, I don't want to embarrass you, but I believe the giraffe is the highest. I have often felt keenly, as a minister, my responsibility to model the very best life that humans can live. It is, of course, a life in Jesus. Many times I have failed to show others that humans are the highest form of life and that, more than any other animal, we are spiritual beings; but I have kept pressing toward the mark of our high calling in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14) I want to be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12) We humans are the glory of God s creation, the highest form of life. Let me challenge you again to live for Jesus a life that is true. The most effective outreach to others in the church is the life we live. Thank you for the many ways you have blessed me. I commend you to a God who giveth joy and addeth no sorrow. Sunday will be time of adventure and excitement, as we learn about missionaries Kevin and Suzie and their family sharing the Good News about Jesus in Zambia! Kevin and Suzie have exciting news about a boat to share with you along with foods to sample that the natives enjoy! There will be other activities associated with Zambia, too! 2 Week of Prayer for North American Missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering WBC Goal: $2,500 On Sunday, March 6th, we will kickoff our emphasis on North American Missions. The children will present the money they have collected as a Missions Offering on that day. The congregation will join in prayer throughout the week for the North American missionaries. Our church-wide offering will be taken on Sunday, March 13th. Watch for more information in upcoming newsletters and bulletins. WBC COMMITTEE BULLETIN BOARD Wednesday Night Adult Bible Study It s never too late to join a study! The Education Committee will meet on Sunday, February 27th at 5:00 pm in the Men s Sunday School Classroom. Steve Horton will lead the January Bible study on Galatians: The Truth About Grace (Book fee is $6). Robert England will lead a video study titled The Path to the Cross. Teresa Adkins and Roger Williams will lead a book study on the 23rd Psalm titled Traveling Light by Max Lucado (Book fee is $8). Plan to join one of these groups on Wednesday evenings! Baby Shower The church will host a baby shower for Mark and Raina Dotson (Henrietta Dotson s son) on Sunday, February 27th in the Fellowship Hall at 2 pm. They are registered at Walmart and Target. Please see Margie Horton for more information. The Mission Committee will meet on Wednesday, March 2nd at 5:30 pm in the Men s Sunday School Classroom. The next Men s Prayer Breakfast will be on Saturday, March 5th in the Youth Building. Breakfast will begin at 8:30 am followed by Bible Study. All men are invited and encouraged to bring a friend! Please contact Mike Osborne if you plan to attend. Wise Baptist Church Youth Scarf Project for The Cancer Center Will Gipe, Nick England, Daniel England and Aaron Clark working together on a scarf. Katilin Ponish and Anna Clark (while Alex Hall supervises) preparing the material to make a scarf. Kim Hall, Noah Hall, Alex Hall, Laura Gipe and Caitlin Adkins preparing the material to make a scarf or two. Rita Isaac working on a scarf. 3 The Jubilation Ringers will rehearse on Sunday, February 27 at 9:00 am in the Sanctuary. TRUTH will meet at 9:45 in the Sanctuary. I am very thankful for Joanne Kennedy and her faithful service to our church, our association, and to the Lord. Joanne continues to be a blessing in our music ministry. It was my joy to sing with her last Sunday morning in worship. If you are not part of the music ministry at WBC but would like to be, please see Leigh as soon as possible. Special congratulations to Aaron Clark for being named the LPD Tournament MVP. Also, congratulations to the Lady Raiders for their runner-up finish in the LPD Tournament. Olivia Collins is a member of that team. All of our teams will be in action this week in the Region D Tournament. MEOC Hearthwarming Sunday Offering Wise Baptist Church has collected $832 for MEOC to distribute to those needing assistance with their fuel bills during the winter months. WBC will continue to collect donations throughout February. Thank you to everyone who has provided a dish for recent church meals. There are a number of unclaimed dishes in the Fellowship Hall. Please stop by to see if one may belong to you! THANK YOU! I would like to thank Kim Hall for the work and planning that went into the youth service project last Sunday. The scarves that we made will be a blessing to so many people.
