Dear church family and friends, There is a word that sometimes expresses how many feel. It is a weariness in body, mind, and spirit or all the above. Jesus has an answer. It is found in Matthew 11: Come, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and the burden is light. (NIV) It is a surprising answer. Jesus offers rest to the weary, but how? He offers a yoke. A yoke was used to attach to a team of oxen. A yoke meant work. It sounds like one more burden. However, the yoke is Jesus yoke. It is not someone else s yoke or expectations. Jesus yoke fits who He made us to be. It is a learning process. We must lay down other yokes, which have often unnecessarily burdened us. Often, a new ox was often paired with an older, stronger, more experienced ox, who would guide the younger one. It was a learning process. It is a learning process to submit to the guidance of our Lord. As we take on His yoke, we find that we are paired with His strength and knowledge, plus the benefit of His fellowship. Whose yoke(s) are we wearing? I invite you to lay down other yokes and take up the yoke of Jesus. Continue to pray about how Jesus yoke might apply in and through Wise Baptist Church in the coming church year. The burden is light! Love, Pastor Mike We welcome Brad Morris to Wise Baptist Church. 2 Announcements CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Kathy Dotson, Grace Allio, friends and family of Joe Roberts. Our deepest sympathy also goes out to Irene Black, family and friends for the passing of her daughter, Linda Marrs. CHURCH -WIDE BACK- TO -SCHOOL PICNIC/POOL PARTY Friday, August 8 TOWN OF WISE POOL Picnic begins at 6 pm, swim, corn hole, etc. until 9 pm. Please notify church office so we can plan for your coming. DEACON NOMINATIONS An important group of servants in our church is the Deacons. On Sunday, August 10th, members of Wise Baptist Church will have the opportunity to submit nominations for three new active Deacons. Jerry Baird, Gil Blackburn, and Ron Helton are rotating off as inactive Deacons and will not be eligible to serve as an active Deacon this coming year. Other current active Deacons that will continue to serve the Church include Mark Clark, Robert England, Lewey Lee, Dan Helton, John Ponish, and Bill Sutherland. Please begin praying now for those who will be called to serve. PARENT/CHILD DEDICATION SERVICE AUGUST 3 If you have a child you would like dedicated, please notify the church office. As you pray, please remember... Wednesday Night Events Begin August 13 Jump back into Wednesday nights! Supper begins at 6pm. There are Bible studies for all age groups beginning at 6:45pm. The adult studies begin on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 6:45pm (after supper). Three 6-week studies are offered: What are You Afraid of (Facing Your Fears) Biblical plan to face our nine biggest fears. Recovering from the Losses of Life Find help and hope together in Bible in coping with losses of life. Kingdom Agenda bringing to bear the leadership and rule of God in all areas of life. (Please notify the church office if you are attending the supper and/or Bible studies. This allows us to better plan the meals and have enough Bible study materials.) SUNDAY SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Find fresh, inspirational, and helpful ideas. There will be bringing trained leaders to guide each area of Sunday School: Pastor/Director, Adults, Youth, Children, and Pre-school. It is sponsored by the Wise Baptist Association and will be held right here at Wise Baptist Church. It will be held on Sat. Aug. 23 from 10-noon, followed by lunch that will be provided. Please contact the church office by Aug. 20 if you are going to take part.

3 From Leigh It was late May of 2010 doesn t really seem like it was that long ago. My friend, John Ponish, came to ask me about someone he worked with and his daughter going on our mission trip to the Outer Banks. John told me all about Bryon his construction skills, his work attitude, and his family and that he believed this trip would be a great opportunity for Bryon. It occurred to me then that John was a great friend because he truly cared about people. John arranged for us to all have lunch at Arby s. I immediately knew Bryon would be an asset for our mission team. And I sensed a true longing to do something important and meaningful and that he wanted his daughter, Megan, to be a part of it, too. A wonderful friendship began that day. Bryon had a huge impact on our son, Aaron on the mission trip through his encouragement, work ethic, playfulness, and attitude. A couple of years later Bryon taught and encouraged Anna through the building of a barn floor at a horse farm. He has helped Mark and I on numerous occasions with things around the house, i.e. remodeled bathroom, new porch, lights, etc. He and Megan joined us last week for a meal to celebrate Anna s 20th birthday. He is more than a friend, he is family to us. To me, that is what belonging to a church is all about...family, fellowship, growing together in and through God s love. Being a part of a church isn t about what you get it is about what you give. It is about offering ourselves in friendship and love and service to one another and to strangers in the Name of the Lord! As our new church year approaches, prayerfully consider where you will give yourself the opportunities are many and the blessings are immeasurable.
