HE DEMOCRAC CONENON CALLED. Democras Will Assemble ieo Bays Afer he Republican Convenion is Held he Republican Srife for Delegaes. he Democraic couny commiee held a meeing a Freehold yeserday and fixed a dae for he Democraic couny convenion. he rules whichgovern he calling of Democraic couny convenions were abrogaed wo years ago, when a resoluion wab passed auhorizing he couny commiee o change he ime of holding he convenion if hey hough i advisable. Acingunder his resoluion he commiee called he convenion his year for hursday, Ocober 1s, he primaries will be held he preceding Saurday, he Democras will have a comparaively easy ime o selec he candidae for senaor. he only candidae in sigh is Aaron W. Johnson of Freehold. Mr. Johnson was wice eleced o he assembly from he old firs disric, and by a good majoriy each ime. he hope enerained by some Democras ha Alfred Walling of Keypor would run for senaor will no be fulfilled, for Mr. Walling has posiively refused. is a quesion wheher or no he will even accep a renominaion o he assembly. For sheriff almos every ownship has a candidae. Jacob C. Shus will ge he delegaes from ShrewsburyrJames JrHop-- ping from Middleown, Billy Joline from Ocean, Joseph L. Bucber from Howell, Houson Fields from Freehold, and i is probable ha oher candidaes will urn up in some of-he oher-ownships. Af erbe firs ballo i will be anybodys race for he nominaion. Houson Fields sands he bes chance o ge he nominaion, wih Billy Joline second. here has no been very much change in he Republican prospecs during he pfs week, excep ha ho Francis men b&ve abou become convinced ha Richard Herber will ge he delegaes from Freehold, and ha Danser will no be able o deliver hem o Francis. he opinion is curren a Freehold, however, among he poliicians of boh paries, ha Francis will ge he nominaion for senaor and Dan3er he nominaion for sheriff. n Ocean, Nepune and Wall he same idea prevails among he men who run he Republican machine. Elsewhere here is a differen belief, and here are many who admi ha he combinaion o force he nominaion of hese men is very srong, bu who do no believe i can be done. Some of he mos asue poliicians of he couny believe ha before anoher week has passed he- Francis men, realizing fully ha Danser oan swing no delegaes from Freehold o Francis, will hrow Danser overboard and seek for assisance elsewhere. Ohers say ha George B. Snyders populariy hroughou he couny is such ha he combinaion, for Francis and Danser canno hold he delegaes, and ha Snyder wjge some voes in every ownship excep Nepune, no maer how srong he effor may be o preven voes going o him. he deepes anagonism agaim he combinaion icke of Francis and Danser is in Middleown. Cap. Ben Griggs has no fjiven.up hope of geing he sheriffs nominaion, bu many of ho Republicans of he ownship hink ha his chanco is aligh. hese men may have opposed him in he ownship, bu when somebody ouside of he ownship proposes o urn him down, hey are ready o figh. Many of he Republicans of Middleown prefer Packer o Francis.. hey say ha Francis is very unpopular in he ownship, while Packer is liked by everybody, bu hey are willing o voe for senaor in any way ha will help Cap. Griggs mos. A REGSER reporer was hrough he ownship a few days ago and he was old a Bcore or more of imes ha if Francis go he nominaion for senaor and hen failed o hrow ho voes of Ocean, Nepune and Wall o Cap. GriggB, Francis need no look for any majoriy in Middleown on elecion dav. Wall ownship is solid for Francis, and he work ha has been done here will render i very difficul for any oher candidae o ge a foohold. Nepune will implicily obey whaever insrucions L. E. Wason pus forh, alhough jus now. Frank Appleby is hinking of kicking over bo racea and voing for Bradloy for senaor. Some of Applebys friend9 Buy ha bo has hopes ha ho senaorial lighning will srike in MB direcion. hoy say ha ho has all ho qualificaions for n nominaion by ho machine, since i was only a shor imo ago ha he, like Bradloy, was a prohibiionis, mul herefore eniled o precedenco over long-ime Republicans; bu horo is no likelihood of lioro being any dnrlc horse business in ho nominaion of oihor bo senaor or sheriff, ho asaisanco of Mahias Woolloy is proving a hwivy loud for Franiiln o curry. ho working Republicans of he couny have- buoii very angry wih Wool- cy for puing a Dnmocrn in hu boo placo in ho sheriirs olllce, afor hey iiud fough yours and yearn for ho Republican icke. Franciss friends realize ha; if he is beaen in his own ownship i will end his chances, and hey wiu pu up he bee figh of which hey are capable. Francis and Packer are boh members of he Junior Order of American Mechanics, bu he members of he orddr hroughou he couny are almos wholly wih Packer. ndeed, in some localiies he Mechanics are he bieres opponens Francis has, and some of hem will no voe for him, even if he is nominaed. hey say ha las year, when Packer was urged o run for he nominaion for he assembly, ho refuued on he ground ha Francis was eniled o a renominaion, and ha he hen announced ha he would be a candidae for senaor his year. hey say ha i beokens ingraiude on Frances par o now underake o defea Packer for senaor, afer Packer refused o inerfere las year when urged o run agains Francis for he nominaion for assembly. Mr. Herber has been canvassing he upper par of he couny he pas week. Before he consiuion of he sae was changed and special acs prohibied, a special law was enaced providing ha any road disric in Middleown ownship could double is road ax if such a provision were carrieda an elecion held by he voers of ha road disric, his law, however, appliesonly o Middleown ownship, and no o any oher ownship in he couny.
