1 . Dear Brother Knights, It s hard to believe that we are over halfway through our Fraternal Year already. Time seems to be flying by, reminding me of the slogan from the 1 st Degree Tempus Fugit, Memento Mori. (Time flies, remember death.) With this in mind, maybe now is the time to take a fresh look at all of the different insurance benefits that membership in the Knights of Columbus offer? Our new Field Agent, George Flannery, attended our February meeting and spoke about a few programs that might be of interest. Call George and set up a no-obligation meeting with him or I am also pleased to announce the addition of 7 new members to our Council so far this year: Fr. Anthony Brankin (Transfer) Joe Drap (Transfer) Carlos Soto Bob Little William Biagi Martin Oborski Donald Puzman Please join me in welcoming them to Cardinal Council #1691! We also have several candidates scheduled to take their 1 st Degrees on February 21 st. If you know of anyone that wants to become a member, please have them contact me. Our goal for new members this year is 8, and it looks like we may actually exceed that goal! Thanks to all members that have gone the extra mile this year in our recruiting efforts! Finally, Cardinal Council has an upcoming outing at a Chicago Wolves game on March 20 th. In addition to going to see a great game, you also will have the opportunity to see your Grand Knight on the ice before the game, presenting the colors for the National Anthem. 2 FOURTH DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATIONS FEBRUARY 20, 2010 WYNDHAM HOTEL LISLE, ILLINOIS APRIL 17, 2010 MARRIOTT - LINCOLNSHIRE With a 4 th Degree Exemplification scheduled for February 20 th at the Wyndham Hotel at 3000 Warrenville Road in Lisle with the Candidate Registration at 11 AM and the Marriott-Lincolnshire at 10 Marriott Drive in Lincolnshire on April 17 th time to be determined, NOW is the time for all of Our 3 rd Degree Brothers to ask themselves if they are ready to join the Ranks of the Fourth Degree. Remember that you must be beyond your first anniversary of your First Degree date to be eligible. Contact any officer to arrange to attend. This has been an extremely difficult time. We lost Peggy Zaras wife of BK Andy Zaras who preceded her in passing. BK Edwin P. Noska died January 8. We were well represented at the wake at Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home. DD Anthony Biliskov lost his wife Barbara on January 29. An honor guard of Knights including several from Cardinal Council attended the wake at Richards Midway Funeral home. DD Anthony Biliskov reported the passing of his granddaughter, Britney Tyson in Nashville, Tennessee on February 9 th. She is the daughter of Tony s daughter Connie and her husband Ken. Helen Harper, aunt of BK Steve Fitzmaurice passed away on February 9 th.please keep everyone in your thoughts and Prayers. The 2009 Cardinal Council Christmas Party was a great time with great food, terrific gifts and an opportunity to mingle with the recipients of our MR Drive receipts. Contact GK Dan Kudulis to place your order or dansiluduk@comcast.net JOLIET JACKHAMMERS AUGUST 23 RD Mark your calendars for a fun filled evening as Cardinal Council once again will have a family outing to the Jackhammer vs. Schaumburg Flyer game that begins at 6:10 p.m. The price is still only $10 per ticket and offers a great entertainment value. March 3 rd is the day that the Catholic Conference of Illinois has designated for us to descend on Springfield to lobby our state legislators on issues based on Catholic Social Teaching. The Bishops of the six dioceses in Illinois Support this event and have asked the Knights of Columbus to show our support. More information is available on their website: conferenceofillinois.org Check it out and spread the word. This is important. By working as a team we can make a difference in Springfield. Grand Knight Dan Kudulis s recruiting efforts were rewarded with a Certificate from the Supreme Council at our February meeting. Congratulations Dan and let us all follow his lead.

Brankin acknowledged that the help provided by Cardinal Council at St. Odilo s Mozart Concert on Sunday, February 7 th made the event a wonderful afternoon. The concert, which was attended by close to 700 had the benefit of our Brother Knights providing parking service for the Concert attendeesd. It s open to Brother Knights, their wives and non-members alike. Members and their wives will bowl as designated members. Non-members may bowl on a limited basis. No more than two non-members per team and they must bowl with a member in the doubles event. There is also an opportunity for those who would like to bowl in the team event more than once. You can bowl on a second team as long as there are not more than three members of your original team. If you are interested in bowling contact Tony Biliskov The Cardinal Council Free Throw Championship was held on January 23 rd at Morton East s Main Gym. Josh Cannella from St. Odilo was our 13 year old Champion and Carlos Rodriguez from the Cicero Boys & Girls Club was the 14 year old winner. Both advanced through the District to the Regional competition being held at the Chicago Police Academy Gym at 1300 West Jackson Blvd. On March 6 th the doors open at 11 a.m. and the contest is to start at noon. If they are able to advance to the State Finals. They will be held at the Glenwood High School at 1501 East Plummer Blvd. In Chatham, Illinois on April 10 th at 9:30 a.m. check-in and the contest commencing at 10 sharp. A big thank you to Pat Beranek PGK Jerry Lorenat, PGK Joe Struhar and DD Tony Biliskov for their help with this event. The Council took time out to toast Thomas and Jane Heyduk s 50 th Anniversary at the February meeting. Congratulations also, to Joseph and Jacqueline Schnitzer who celebrated their 43 rd on February 4 th.
