Pastor Richard Barry Fritts is a Western Washington native, having grown up in Kirkland. He earned a BA in Business from Western Washington University. He is a veteran, having served in the Washington Army National Guard from He has also worked for Boeing in Supply Chain Management. Pastor Fritts initial call to ministry came through teaching Sunday School for several years and volunteering with the Lutheran Youth of North Seattle. He received his M.Div. degree from Luther Seminary in 2007 and is currently rostered within the LCMC. He has served parishes in Montana, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska, is looking forward the opportunity to move back to Washington. Pastor Fritts gifts and talents include integrity in preaching and teaching; visitation to the vulnerable members of a congregation; serving as a worship leader; being approachable, personal, and demonstrating a good sense of humor; educating the priesthood of all believers in distinguishing salvation and vocation; providing leadership focused on practical outcomes, and coordinating with staff in the overall ministry of the church. Pastor Fritts is excited about the opportunity for ministry and comes with several ideas for strengthening the ministry at Zion. For example, improving the relationship with Sunshine Mountain through regular pastoral visits to interact with the children and their parents; rotating educational and other fellowship events with other Puget Sound LCMC congregations; and confirmation retreats with the pastor. Pastor Fritts wife, Marney, received her Ph.D. in Theology from Luther Seminary in 2012 and teaches for St. Paul Lutheran Seminary (an online seminary). Barry and Marney work together to equip the saints for studying and hearing God s Word, and training them in a variety of contexts. As Pastor Fritts states, Our proven strength is that in preaching and teaching together, our ministry is reinforced and multiplied across generations. Barry and Marney have two children, Zoe (7) and Zach (4). He loves spending time playing with his kids and is teaching them to love playing board games as much as he does. Barry & Marney s professional website is frittslutheran.com, which contains sermons, articles, videos & links to confessional Lutheran resources. You are encouraged to check out the website to learn more.

Sincerely, Julie Kissick Malloy, Lutheran Community Services Special Events Coordinator, Western Washington ***Is your child uncomfortable around people that are different from them? Check out our Parenting Christian Kids Newsletter for ways to help kids embrace people s differences. Who knows, these may even help you live out Christ-like compassion daily, too! R e m e m b e r... Faith At Home is for everyone! This is an exciting time at Zion with the arrival of our new pastor. We should be thankful for the excellent job our officers and council members did in leading us during this transition period. It is the steady and on-going leadership and work of the council and committees that sustains and maintains our church as a gathering place where we as Christians share and grow our faith to do the work of the church. In late August and September the Nominating Committee may contact you to be part of the leadership team here at Zion. We will ask you to prayerfully consider saying yes to help Zion continue to do this important work in God s kingdom.
