There is no greater way or week to deepen one s faith than to participate in all services available. From Jesus entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to his last supper with disciples, to his arrest in garden, his trial before Pilate, his crucifixion on cross, his burial in grave, and finally his miraculous and glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday - reliving se events helps us to know Jesus and his love more deeply. Add to that reception of His Holy Sacrament on both Maundy Thursday and PASTOR JOHN STENNFELD Pastor, Christ Luran Church Easter Sunday and you have perfect recipe for deepening and broadening and enhancing one s faith. Don t jip yourself by skipping se holy week services. They are here to help you grow closer to Jesus and stronger in your faith. In greater scheme of things, you would be hard-pressed to find a better way to spend those few hours. Have a blessed holy week, In Christ, Pastor John FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Friends in Christ, Hope everyone had a marvelous Spring Break! For those who stayed in town, as Bob Wiley always says its a wonderful time to be in Austin,Texas. The wear was sunny and cool, cherry blossoms along Lady Bird Lake were blooming, and Austin was humming on enthusiasm that SXSW brings each year (ok, except for traffic). We are certainly blessed to live in such a beautiful, diverse city. Getting back to business, please be sure to attend Voters Meeting on April 3rd. I think it will be a short meeting and barbeque lunches from Fellowship Committee will be available. Each year Synod designates one Sunday in April as Concordia University Sunday, so I d like to bring up Concordia University Texas. As many of you know, Concordia s main campus is located in northwest Austin, settled on 389 acres that includes a nature preserve. Concordia has three or extension campuses in San Antonio, ALBERT CARRION, JR. President, Christ Luran Church Houston, and Fort Worth and a satellite campus in central Austin. Concordia offers 18 undergraduate majors in four colleges: Business, Education, Liberal Arts, and Sciences, as well as a Master of Education and Master of Business 1

3 UNDAROUND AROUND ARO Administration graduate degrees. The new Nursing program is a success and is growing. Concordia also offers an Accelerated Degree Program for part-time students and adult returning students. An average class size of 18 ensures you ll get personal attention from each professor. The new campus is simply beautiful, with new dorm facilities, classrooms, gymnasium and baseball field. Enrollment is approximately 2,100 students and growing each year. Concordia offers an environment that is academically challenging and a caring community of professors and administrators - - undergirded by Christian values - - to fulfill its mission to Develop Christian Leaders. We church AROUND AROUND AROUND will be traveling to nearby San Marcos for a Glass- Bottom Boat Tour at Aquarena Springs. Details will be coming soon. EUNICE GUILD The Capitol Zone LWML Spring Rally is at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Luran in Georgetown. If you want to carpool, please call Fran Ross. The Eunice Guild will not meet in April as our regular day is during Holy week. Instead, we will meet in May on Tuesday, May 17th at 12:00 Noon. The Quilts and soap will be delivered on Tuesday, April 26th between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to St. Paul. Anyone who would like to help, please call Fran Ross. The Quilt Group will meet on Thursday, April 14th and 28th at 11:00 a.m. We have used up most of materials donated this last year. We will need used sheets, blankets, and mattress pads and material. Don t forget to mark your calendars for Women s Tea on Saturday, May 7th, Please refer to associated article in this newsletter for more information. Lilies are $7.50 and pink hydrangeas are $ Ordering envelopes are located in narx for your convenience. Please be sure to turn in all money and orders no later than Sunday, April 10th. Don t forget to include who you would like to honor or memorialize with your lilies. Please contact Alana at church office with questions. SILENT AUCTION As part of our efforts to raise funds to support our mission team/trip to help those folks in New Orleans still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, we are going to have a silent auction on Sunday, April 3rd, same day as B-B-Q plate fundraiser and Voter s Meeting. 4 VOTER S MEETING On Sunday, April 3rd following late service and B-B-Q plate fundraiser, voter s meeting will be held. BAR-B-Q PLATE FUNDRAISER To-Go B-B-Q lunch plates will be for sale on April 3rd to support New Orleans mission trip planned for this summer. Plates will be $7/plate for advance tickets and $8/plate for tickets day of fundraiser (as supplies allow.) Don t miss out on this delicious way to support our mission trip! BLOOD DRIVE The Blood Mobile will be at Christ Luran Church on Sunday, April 17th from 9am 12:30pm. You may sign up online at www. inyourhands.org and use sponsor code SOCO or contact Steven Richter at (512) TRUSTEE WORKDAY Trustee s have set April 16,2011 as a church workday. Start time will be 8:30 am and end around 4:00 pm. Please feel free to attend all day or for one hour. Will have a lunch provided and snacks at break times. There will be a sign up sheet in narx for those planning on attending, but it is not a requirement. You can also notify a trustee. Bring your hammer or your paint brush or just yourself and enjoy day. EASTER BREAKFAST Easter Sunday, April 24th re will be an Easter breakfast held in Fellowship Hall from 9:00 am-10:00 am. Invite family and friends to celebrate resurrection of Jesus. WOMEN S LUNCHEON TEA The Women s Luncheon Tea will be on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. The me for this year is Wedding Styles. Everyone is encouraged to bring pictures (preferably in a standing frame) of ir own wedding, and/or wedding of ir parents, grandparents or children to be displayed at tea. This event is a great opportunity to acquaint someone with our church. A portion of monies collected will go to Jesus Luran Church of Deaf for ir community outreach. Tickets will be on sale after both services on April 17 & 24, and May 1. Price is $5.00 per person, ages 6 and under are free. If you have any questions, please contact Val Kanetzky ( ). FEED MY LAMBS UPDATE The sack lunch program handed out 40 lunches during month of March We have begun handing out fresh sandwiches on last Friday of each month (this month s date will be April 29th) in addition to each sack lunch. The Feed My Lambs ministry can always use non-perishable sack lunch items if you wish to donate. Please also consider bringing fresh fruit and/or sandwich supplies for April 29th. Our ministry can also use help in putting toger regular lunch bags, or handing out lunches to help homeless in our community. CONCORDIA HIGH SCHOOL GOLF SCRAMBLE The 10th Annual.Concordia HS Golf Scramble will be held Monday, May 9th at Shadow Glen Golf Club. Register online at www. chsaustin.org or at Concordia HS. Proceeds will benefit financial assistance program at Concordia HS. 5 Church Pictorial Directory From April 17th-24th, a proof copy of church pictorial directory with photos, names, and contact information will be available in narx on Sundays for your review, or by stopping by church during holy week. Please contact church office ASAP if you wish to have your photo retaken or for first time or to submit a photo. Please mark on proof copy any updates you wish to have made to your contact information. Copies of directory will be available at church starting on Sunday, May 1st, for $5/directory. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Kingdom Quest The regular format (Large Group and shepherd groups) of Kingdom Quest will conclude for school year on Sunday, May 29. The children are learning about Jesus life according to gospel of Luke, and after Easter will learn about mission adventures of Paul from book of Acts. Youth Bible Studies continue to meet concurrently in Christ s Workshop. Kingdom Quest and Youth Bible Study will not meet on Easter Sunday, April 24. Easter Egg Hunt This year s Easter Egg Hunt will be held on JORDAN BOESSLING Minister of Creative Communications & Community Connections Easter Sunday, April 24 from 10:00-10:30 am. All children from toddlers through 5th grade are invited to participate, and youth and adult volunteers are encouraged to help hide eggs. We ll meet in west part of Fellowship Hall at 9:50 am for registration and share a short devotion before walking over to backyard of Christ s Workshop for Easter Egg Hunt. Please make sure you register your toddlers/children beforehand by signing up at Kingdom Quest bulletin board. Vacation Bible School VBS is just around jungle at Kingdom Quest. Humphrey Hippo invites children age 3-5th grade to go on a faith journey with Jesus at Big Jungle Adventure VBS each Sunday morning at 9:30-10:30 am from June 5 - September 4. We ll start and send off each Sunday from Kingdom Quest Tree House Room by singing songs. We ll study Bible at storytime. We ll create crazy crafts. We ll be brave as we memorize Bible verses. We ll gar for ready, set, go at games. We ll do mighty things for ors through mission projects. We ll savor sensational snacks. Above all, at Big Jungle Adventure VBS we ll learn that Jesus rescues us from sin, death, and devil, and that He rose from dead to save us. The youth Bible study classes with help on Sundays with various VBS activities. Adults interested in volunteering for VBS please contact Alice Werchan or Jordan. Shoe Drive Through Sunday, April 10, we are collecting new and gently-worn shoes and outgrown children s that Soles4Souls will send around world to support people in need. Soles- 4Souls is currently focused on relief efforts in Japan and Haiti. Please tie shoes toger and drop m into bin located in narx. Quilters The Quilt group generally meets every second and fourth Thursday of month from about 11 am - 12:00 pm. They work toger to pin and tie three layers of a quilt toger. It s quite a process of making quilts to ship to Luran World Relief, and quilts make quite a difference in blessing people around world with warmth, shelter, and versatility. Be a part of this mission by donating used blankets, mattress pads, fabric, and sheets as well as attending quilting sessions on those Thursdays. Please contact Fran Ross for information. Food Bank We ll serve at Capital Area Food Bank (8201 South Congress) on Saturday, April 30 from 8:45 am - 12 noon. Serving at Food Bank shows you how food donations get to hungry central Texans, as we work toger to clean, sort, box, and make donations ready for distribution by Food Bank. Please go to Community Connections bulletin board to review Food Bank safety rules. It is required for all volunteers serving at Food Bank to wear closed-toed shoes.
