So in that spirit here are a few things I think you should know about. 1. If you don t know, my wife is with child. The child s due date is September 1, but we all know babies come when they are ready. My personal prediction is August 21, the day of the solar eclipse, and the day before school starts for our oldest daughter. The council and I have come to an agreement that I will use 4 weeks of paternity leave once the baby is born. This is a part of the synod compensation guidelines and was discussed in the call process I have found this to be valuable time to care for my family in a time of great adjustment. In this time Dave Davies and Amy Williams will be arranging pulpit supply. There is a plan in place that one of the Sundays of the four that I am gone, will be a communion Sunday. I have made arrangements for ministers to be available for pastoral care. If pastoral care is desired, please contact Peggy. 2. Change is happening in our narthex. It has been painted. A welcome desk/coffee is being built, and furniture has been purchased. This is all part what was discussed and voted on at the annual meeting as a way to be more hospitable to all who walk in our doors. 3. The first Food Pantry Sunday at St. Paul was great! We gathered 165 pounds of food that was delivered to Next Chapter Food Pantry. Thank you for your generosity! It was so awesome to see the kids bringing bag after bag of food forward during the offering time. We will continue to have Food Pantry Sunday on the first Sunday of every month. 4. September 10, is God s Work, Our Hand s Sunday. In the past this has been a serve day at St. Paul where folks worked on sprucing up St. Paul. This year, I am working with Peter Lawson for us to do a project with the food bank. Please watch for more information on this opportunity! That s what I know for now. 3 EARLY&LEARNING&&&CENTER& Giggles & Grace July was a busy month at Giggles & Grace. Normally our numbers drop a lot in the summer time but this year we are staying busy. We have been registering kids for our fall preschool and anticipate having a full after school program. If you know of anyone that needs a preschool or has daycare needs encourage them to register early to reserve a spot. We are gearing up for our 4th annual Fall Fun Fest in October. If you would like to help either volunteering, donating items for the silent auction or with baking items for our bake sale please let us know. Fall Fun Fest will be Thursday October 5th from 5:00 to 7:00. Come on over for some great baked potatoes and a silent auction. On a sad note, our Executive Director Shawn lost his mother unexpectedly, please keep him in your prayers. Attention all college students: Now is the time to fill out a scholarship form and turn it into the office. Deadline is August 30. Heavenly Scones The Fair starts on Tuesday, August 1st and runs through Saturday, August 5th. There are still spots to sign up to work. Secretary s hours are: Monday through Friday 1:30pm to 3:00pm I will be working limited hours the week of the Fair. I will be working in the afternoon at the Scone Booth and filling in where needed. I am at Giggles & Grace in the mornings. Please call my cell phone if you need me outside of these times. Pastor Justin s hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am to 12:30pm He is available at other times by appointment. 5 Church Happenings Can/Bottles for Houston Youth Gathering The youth attending the Houston Youth Gathering will be collecting cans and bottles to redeem to raise money. Cans and bottles can be dropped off at the church near Pastor Justin s office. Please no Kirkland brand water bottles or cans, bottles and cans purchased in Idaho, also no Angry Orchard or bottles that do not have a deposit. These items are not redeemable in Oregon. Help us Eat! Sunday, September 17, you are invited to the next youth dinner after worship. The menu will be announced at a later date but it s sure to be great. Our youth will help with lunch, the set up and clean up. Rent-a-Youth Need help around your house? Rent-ayouth(s) from St. Paul to help out. Youth going to the Houston Youth Gathering in the summer of 2018 are looking to raise money and are willing to help you out for a donation of your choosing. Please contact Pastor Justin at if you would like to Rent-a-youth. Backpack Blessing Sunday August 13, 2017 It s almost back-to-school time again, and we would like to send children off to the first day with an extra blessing for them and their backpack. If you are going to school as a student, teacher, or support person please join us on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at worship to receive this special blessing. No reservations are required; just bring your backpacks! We will also be collecting backpacks for the Idaho Food bank. The backpack program helps low income children by providing weekend food support throughout the school year. We would like to collect 15 packs this year. Please bring them to church by August 13th so we can have them blessed. Youth Game Night September 27 6pm-8pm Middle School and High School youth Talk to Jan Dinsmore for more information God s Work Our Hands Sunday September 10th, 2017 Pastor Justin is working with Peter Lawson to do a work project with the Oregon Food Bank. More will be announced in the September Newsletter.

6 The new Narthex area is starting to take shape. New paint on the walls and some of the furniture is in. More changes are on the way. There will be a coffee bar along with a few more tables and chairs. Food Bank Sunday August 6th The first Sunday of every month will be food bank Sunday. In an effort to be supportive and giving to our community, St. Paul will be collecting food on the first Sunday of every month beginning in. Please bring canned, bagged, or boxed food items to worship to donate to the local food banks. If you are willing to help deliver the food collected, please let Amy Williams or Dave Davies know, and we will put your name on the delivery rotation. Questions? Contact Pastor Justin, Amy, or Dave.
