THE A L E T H E A N 57 As the last word was w rtten A lethea found th a t t w as two o clock n the ornng, May sxth. She retred, to becoe co pletely erged n the Sprt of Sappho. A vson n whch the true hstory of the death of the Grecan Poetess was revealed to her. Ths vson wll be publshed n the next Alethean. A t seven o clock on the ornng of the sxth, Robert Head who lved about a le dstant called to nfor Alethea that he had "been awakened between one and two o clock by the ost heaven ly usc. He began whstlng the openng strans of the sae usc that had accopaned the poe U prased, as heard by Alethea who responded: have the words also. Dd you hear the sung? No, repled Mr. Head, but t seeed to e as f a great celebraton was takng place n soe hgher real. The Celestals were celebratng the uplftent of Sappho, exclaed Alethea. ' Wsdo and Understandng Jesus of Nazareth, n hs physcal presentaton, was the Voce of D ety; the essenger of T he H oly Sprt, and through Hs teachngs, all lght and hghest wsdo was trans tted to the nds of the ulttude. The student nd s not always bg enough to hold a sudden nflux of enlghtenent, the conscousness s restrcted, the ental vson dstorted, for the ental flter has not been n use and there s no understandng. The ost ancent and the last fors of progressve thought, speakng through varous creeds, sects and relgous teachngs, are all a part of ths overflow of wsdo fro the fountan of knowledge, through the edushp of any teachers. The ntrcate ters and veled eanngs that have crept nto use by the varous followers and dscples of any cults confuse the gropng nd and too often self-elected teachers attept to part to others what they theselves have faled to grasp, thus havng not entally fltered the nflux of knowledge, ther out pourngs becoe a confused deluge of theory to the understand ng of the student and the ebryo teacher. The conscousness s flooded and often choked up wth the rubbsh of eanngless phrases and hgh soundng words. When the thought fors of the aster nds have been conveyed to the world n prnted words and phrases the student ore often advances n hs as slaton of ths ental food when he reads, learns and nwardly,.. for hself unbased by the snterpretaton of the average teacher. -F ro Progress of Truth,

THE ABUNDANT LFE AND HOW TO OBTAN T or SELF-DEVELOPMENT OF SOUL, MND AND BODY By LDA BRGGS AMERGE Author of the psychc novel Words that Burn and any wdely read Metaphyscal and Occult artcles and stores. NTRODUCTORY n presentng ths splfed course of nstructon n the Scence of Beng wsh to gratefully acknowledge y ndebtedness to varous teach ers, authors and co-workers who are assstng the race to know tself. After years of research n any cults the ost helpful thoughts have been selected and condensed for practcal use. The a of ths seres s to help attan self-astery, to heal afflctons and nharones, and to ake the ost of our lves here and now. t s for those who are seekng a knowledge of ther own powers and how to unfold the. There are three departents Soul Culture, Mental Culture and Body Culture as each needs unfoldent. The nd s the nstruent of the soul and the body the nstruent of the nd. n order to have our lves syetrcal or fully rounded out, one part of our beng should not be de veloped at the expense of the other. SOUL CULTURE p*he soul s the a or the God wthn. t s the supree dctator of our beng, drawng ts power fro Good Govl ernent n whch we lve, ove and have our beng. Many contend that the Source of Beng cannot be proved, as t s unseen, but the Great Heart of the Unverse beats through every fbre and every ato of all lfe. t s n the tnest blade of grass as well as the hghest ntellectual beng. Phlosophers, poets and sages n all ages have gven ths fact to the world but huanty has had to reach a certan stage of developent before t could understand t. As one poet has "We are all parts of one stupendous whole, Whose body nature s, and God the soul. The Great Source of Lfe surrounds and enfolds us, we are ersed n t as a sponge n water and can draw to us our sup ply f we do not shut ourselves off by our doubts and fears. For ages an has held a wrong concepton of God, had thought H a beng seated on a beautful whte throne n a place called heaven where the streets are paved wth gold. We ust change ths dea concernng Dety f we wsh to receve the blessngs ntended for us. 58

50 T h e new concepton of Dety s that God s nfnte Lfe. nfnte Love, nfnte Mnd, nfnte Power, nfnte Health. n-! fnte Truth and nfnte Supply. We are all these n degrees, because we are ade n God s age and lkeness. We ust anfest the n soe degree else we could not exst at all. Just as a drop of water contans all the eleents of the ghty ocean, so we all have the eleents of lfe, love, nd, power, health, truth and supply. Wherever you see lfe anfest, whether n an, anal, plant or vegetable, there s God. t sprngs through the trees, flowers and grass or beats n the heart of the neral as well as n an or lower anal lfe and n the hgher spheres on present, everywhere. The ore you realze that you lve, ove and have your beng n ths nfnte Lfe the ore vtalty or lfe you wll ex press or press-out. The supply s boundless; you can take all you are able to approprate and there wll stll be enough left for everyone else. When we can realze that we are surrounded by God s love we know we are protected and that no evl can coe near us. When we understand that harony, health, happness and truth abound and can be approprated by us all dscords, sckness, sor row and errors dsappear. We wll then hold ourselves ready to receve and transt to others all these blessngs. t s by endeavorng to lve apart fro God that we shut ourselves off fro the power that gves us lfe. We becoe weak ened and at the ercy of those who are stronger. The fountan can never rse hgher than ts source but can rse to that level f opportunty s afforded. We can unfold the God-power wthn us f we do not shut ourselves off fro the great supply through our doubts and fears. t ay be hard for the student to get away fro the old thought of God beng a person, as t has been drlled nto our nds fro generaton to generaton. Whle God s not a per son as to for, yet He s personal n the sense of presence and ntellgent councaton wth ntellgent bengs, as God s n fnte Mnd and all knowledge coes fro H. t s custoary to use the personal pronoun He when refer rng to Dety, yet the nature of God ebraces every good qualty f asculne and fenne character, as also the personal lfe 01. We can therefore use ether the asculne, fenne prncple.»v c

60 THE ALETHEAN or neuter pronoun. Everywhere you see anfest the protectng father-love; the tender, patent other-love th fdng, trustful chld-love, each coplete n the whole J n' now use the ter All-Father-Mother n referrng to G0d ^ n order to understand our own powers we ust r r thoroughly the Source fro whch our supply coes, hence *** dwellng on the Fountan-Head before consderng ourselves T* dvdually. God creates, and as there can be no begnnng or end to O npotence there ust be a contnual creatng. As you look about you can see sgns of the process gong on everywhere. n understandng that God s the only power there s_per fect, unchangeable and external we know that all He creates s good and ust be lke H n qualty. n the past we have rec ognzed two powers, good and bad, whch s error. All s good, and t s the absence or lack of unfoldent that we call bad just as absence of lght s called darkness. Everythng n the unverse s oved by God s power, wheth er t s the rollng of the planets through space or the lftng of a cup of water. Realzng that we lve, ove and have our beng n ths onpotence we can nbreathe or draw to ourselves ore of ths Source of Power n whch we are ersed. The ore power we develop or unfold wthn ourselves the ore lke God we becoe. The ters onscent, onpotent and onpresent are un derstood when we get ths broader vew of Dety, and n copre hendng the we get a larger vew of ourselves knowng that we possess all these qualtes n degrees. The fountan of knowledge (onscent, knowng-all) s at our dsposal to draw fro f we wll. The source of power (o npotent, all-powerful) s ever wth us, and we can obtan ore when we learn how to approprate t. Beng ever present (o npresent) s understood when we know that wherever we see lfe, there s God. 21 t h e t r u t h s eeker By Alethea /flfhe eager seeker for knowledge gans hs experence upon devous pathways and any, any tes wll fnd error asqueradng as truth and truth ofttes concealed n the se blance of falsehood. Those who have not the patence to separate the wheat fro the chaff wll never get beyond the threshold of wsdo. Knowledge s, after all, the power of conscousness to receve nspratonally and to coprehend; the capacty expand ng wth the deand ade upon t. t s necessary to erect about one's conscousness a sort of ental flter through whch can pass only the essence of what s true and helpful. When the ntutve receptvty s guarded and controlled, the ental flter rejects the false theory and receves truth. Ths s clear readng and repre* sents the growth and developent of the psychc or senstve powers of the ndvdual. The dffculty wth the untraned senstve or edu s that too constant use of the forces ay deplete the nervous syste and weaken the protectve wall or flter that should ever surround the psychc; unless he s ever on hs guard to replensh hs ental, physcal and sprtual strength through force as regularly as one takes food nto the body, the senstve powers becoe weakened and no longer reproduce clearly. When the wheels are well oled and the achnery unob structed the product of that achne, wth proper otve power and well drected nd-force, wll be perfect. So the physcal body by proper nstraton to ts ateral needs, perfors ts functons autoatcally, leavng the sprt free to drect the en tal actvtes. Untl the physcal has becoe n a sense auto atc, abstnence n certan lnes akes for control of body and nd. Physcal astery s the frst step along the lne of the ental arch. Mental growth n turn akes roo for the sprtual onscousness to expand and understandng s establshed. Wth n the house of understandng wsdo s ganed and now one be oes a developed senstve, for he s now a recever, enjoyng and partcpatng n ever nflowng streas of enlghtenent. The ental flter does ts work and the essence of knowledge flows nto and through the beng who s thus a edu for the

THE ALETHEAN transsson of ths understandng to the world. He s now n the feld of true nspraton, he receves the dvne afflatus and the sprtual strea ust overflow to the watng world. These overflowngs pass out nglng wth the nds of the throng n wrtten and spoken for; thus are evolved the teachers, helpers,.and savours of huanty. * 1 Sprt feeds upon Sprt, through the edu of prayer and pure thought, or hgher aspratons. The nerve forces feed upon the electro-agnetc fluds that, lke an electrc current, ay be cut off or nterfered wth, unless one keeps the conduts open. Relaxaton, ental and physcal, wth the thought forces frst drected toward coplete receptvty for the electro-agnetc fluds, or n other words an open condut edately nduces the electrc or agnetc flow fro the atospherc surroundng, nto the body as food for the nerves. The nerve conduts are the selves fed and nourshed by the juces fro the food taken nto the body, through the stoach; thus sple and palatable food pleasant and easly asslated s rght for the proper pose of the ental, physcal and sprtual bodes. Ths s why nspratonal wrters and speakers should abstan fro undue use of lquors, or overeatng. Suffcent and proper nourshent s however as necessary to sprtual as to physcal growth. The absolute pose of the physcal reflects pose to the ental and vce versa. Thus fastng sees to e unnecessary and even perncous for t de poses the physcal so that the sprtual body becoes conscous <of ts physcal body s needs. Ths should never be the case.
