Meetings are held on the 2 nd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm with the exception of December when we have our Christmas Luncheon and Party and after March s show. Visitors are cordially invited: Dues are $13.50 per year per adult ($25 for families plus $1 per child), $7.50 ages General Objectives of the Club: To promote popular interest, knowledge and understanding in the various earth sciences, as in Geology, Mineralogy, Paleontology and Lapidary and other related subjects. To sponsor and provide means of coordinating the work and efforts of all persons interested therein. Helping Others: The club participates in the NFMS stamp program, saving large commemoratives, airmail, pre-canceled, and foreign stamps of all values. Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make our show a huge success. We enjoyed good company, great food and rekindled old friendships. The show could not have been a success without every single person helping, stepping in when needed and going above and beyond. That is what makes our show the best in Southern Oregon. As we prepare to begin our fieldtrip season, remember to be prepared for any emergency from flat tires, fire safety, hear stroke and back injuries. It only takes one injury to put one out of the rock hunting season. Be safe and enjoy a great year of finding a new treasure or continuing to collect your favorite rocks. 4 Meeting minutes Minutes for the Klamath Rock and Arrowhead Club Meeting March 11, 2014 The meeting was called to order by President Limb at 7:05 p.m. Flag Salute led by President Limb. March birthdays: Sam Chance, Roy Harris, Ellie Hart, Mike Milem. Door prizes-gave away extra case favors tonight. Welcomed guests John Schobert and Mike Johns. About 35 club members were in attendance. February meeting minutes. Moved by Marvin Stump to approve the minutes with the correct spelling of Kathi s name. Garwin Carlson seconded the motion, was carried. Treasurer s Report: Denise Sebastian reported on income and expenses for the month of February and our current bank balance. NWF Report: Kathi Milem reported that there is a scholarship that youth members can apply for on the Federation s website. It is available through age 19. Kathi also reported that the Federation is looking for Rock hound of the Year articles from the clubs. After discussion, Kathi nominated Marshall Curran as the adult representative and Rachel Limb as the youth representative from our club. Doris Newnham seconded the motion and it was carried. President Limb asked Chris Chance to write the article on Marshall and send to her. She will write the article on Rachel and submit both to the Federation, along with including them in the club newsletter. Sunshine Report: Chris Chance deferred to the Klamath County Museum representative. They gathered 269 signatures at the Rock Show. They also paid the table rent to the Club. Chris will send a card to Dick Bowman. Webmaster: Denise Sebastian reported that it is up-to-date. The log-in information was made available at the meeting. Newsletter Editor: We are in need of a newsletter editor. If interested, please let President Limb know. Field Trips: Marvin Stump reported that the Sunstone Claim trip will be June A report will be given next month for the summer trips. Upcoming Meetings: The next Executive Board Meeting will be held on Monday, 7, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Museum s meeting room. This meeting will be the Rock Show debrief. All members are invited to attend for an honest evaluation of this year s show. Rock Show: Coordinators Marvin Stump and Garwin Carlson reported the overall show was a success. Please attend the debrief meeting on 7 th. Leroy Bieler presented the final amount for the electrical re-wire for the show in the amount of $ (approximately). Marvin Stump moved to approve an amount not to exceed $500 for the final electrical re-wire. Doris Newnham seconded and the motion was carried. 4

5 Minutes (Continued) The charity table earned $ Garwin Carlson moved to donate to this year s charity, Citizen s for Safe Schools, $500. Marvin Stump seconded the motion and it was carried. Thank you to Dick Bowman & Larry Phillips for their donations to the Silent Auction this year. Other: By-Law Revision: Marvin Stump moved to approve the by-laws as revised and presented to the club. Denise Sebastian seconded the motion and it was carried. Purchase of Showcase from Mrs. Ford: Chuck Newnham moved to purchase the showcase for $75.00 from Mrs. Ford. Kathi Milem seconded the motion and it was carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m. by President Limb. Program: Knapping by Kurt Phillips. Refreshments. The next meeting will be held on Monday, 14, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Klamath County Museum s meeting room. 7 Volume 55 Issue 4 Member Field Trips What happened in McDermitt? (Cont. from January newsletter) At the bottom the road ran along side of the creek, where all stropped to explore and I found a small rattlesnake beside the road took a couple photos and said I found a snake, it didn t take long for all to finish their exploring for the day. June 25, it rained again. Sam and Larry went to meet the Grants Pass Club and introduced the people that were traveling from Canada to the membership for some rock hounding. After Roy found the road to slippery to travel on, they called it quits for that day only to have the sun shine and some hearty people went out again. June 27, Thursday, we tried to beat the heat and search for some snake skin agates early in the AM little to no luck, so load up and head out for home, by way of Burns and across to Silver Lake Road to 97, not such long hills to climb as on Rt We now have lots of Yard Art. Thanks to Larry Phillips and the Grants Pass Gem and Geology Club. Submitted by Chris Chance, Rock and Arrowhead Club Member June 26, Wednesday, was out time to head to Rome to look for the elusive snake skin agate. We did not find much, but found some petrified wood and some sort of a blue-green agate that crumbled. No apache tears were found just small obsidian pieces and hot weather. 7

9 Junior Rock Hounds Hey Kids! of the Rock and Arrowhead Club Parents, please encourage your children to attend the Junior Rock hounding session. We cannot have a club without any members and we always have more fun when there are more people. For those of you eighteen and under, we appreciate your participation and ask that you consider attending to learn more about the world and to mentor the younger and less experienced members.
