1 Editor: Pasture Patti Cajon Cowboy Monthly August 2008 Anniversary Shoot Sept. 27 It s not too late to sign up for the one day 12th Anniversary Shoot to be held September 27th. This is a 7 Stage Match with a Speed Pistol, Speed Rifle, Speed Shotgun and a Top Gun Shoot Off integrated in the main match. Following the shoot there will be a Pot Luck lunch and the Awards Ceremony. Reason for the pre registration requirement is for the food count. The club will be furnishing top sirloin steaks and liquid refreshments which is included in your entry fee. Bring a side dish for your self and some to share with other folks. Friday nite we will be holding cowboy Bingo and Cowboy Poker at 6PM. Recently I read an article on the SASS wire regarding rendering of honors to the US Flag so I decided to check it out. Public law of January 8th 2008 authorizes former military personnel to render a military salute to the flag. Here s the complete text of that Section: Section 9 of Title 4, United States Code is amended by striking all persons present and all that follows thru the end of the section and inserting the following: all persons present in uniform should render the Military Salute. Members of the Armed Forces and Veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the Military Salute. All other persons present shall face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart. Citizens of other countries present should stand at attention. All such conduct toward the flag in a moving column should be rendered at the moment the flag passes. We still need donations for our service personnel goody boxes. We sent 4 more out this month and supplies are running thin. We need your help. We certainly thank all of you that have donated to this most worthy cause. If you don t want to shop for this effort we do accept donations of cash and we will shop for you. Inside this issue you will find a letter and photo sent by Dakota Hipshots Granddaughter who is in Iraq. We are mighty proud of her and are grateful for her service to our country. Don t mess with this Cajon Cowgirl!! Packages sent this month to the following: Spc. Justin T. Nelson, US Army (Lumpy Grits and Imma s Boy) PFC Golovin, US Army (Mojave Jacks Son) SGT Beth Kehr, US Marines (Dakota Hipshots Granddaughter) LCPL Andrew Sanford, Deadly Desperado. US Marines Regards Bojack Samuel Brannan California s first millionaire started life in Maine in 1819 before moving with his family to Ohio when he was 14 years-old. He became a printer's apprentice and in 1836 began to move around as a journeyman printer. Converting to Mormonism in 1842, he moved to New York City to help publish several Mormon newspapers. Three years later, Brannan led a group of over 200 New York Mormons to California to find a better life. Briefly, he published a San Francisco newspaper before moving on to John Sutter's settlement, where he opened a general store. Soon; (Continued on page 8)

4 One of the things that gets Sin Killer real riled up is when people say the church should stay out of politics. I guess that in the minds of such people the preacher s job is only to preach it s nice to be nice, and good to be good. President Lyndon Johnson even wrote into law that preachers could not speak from their pulpits about politics (unless it was something a liberal politician wanted to hear) without the wrath of the Federal Government coming down upon the preacher s head. But if a person actually picks up the Bible and reads it cover to cover, they will find from Genesis to Revelation that God is very much interested in politics. God is always telling us in Scripture what it means to be a Godly society, how leaders in society are to behave and what are they to believe, what to fight for and what to fight against Cajon Cowboys Shooting Association, Inc. Club Contacts President Bojack Cell Vice President Luke Warmwater Cell Secretary/Treasurer Pasture Patti Cell SASS Territorial Governor Asphalt Cowboy Cell Webmaster Calamity Candy with swords, spears (you may substitute.45s), and armies marching for God s purposes against God s enemies. Jesus is decidedly not a Mahatma Ghandi wandering about in a diaper and singing Kum Ba Yah. Jesus is not a girlie-man mystic unconcerned with law and order. Jesus expects our nation to stay true to him, and that goes double for those who rise to positions of leadership in our government. Staying true to Jesus has several implications for a political leader. One of the most important implications is that God is worshipped, not government; and it is the government s job to get out of the way of God s church the 1 st Amendment guarantees this. It is the church that must take the role of looking after the people s welfare, for in the church lies responsible help and accountability for the ones helped. The church works to make people free, it does not make them dependent. Historically, this is how America has, up until recent times, taken care of those who have fallen on hard times. Also, a politician is a servant, never a master, so a cult of personality is never appropriate. Staying true to Jesus means that government must remain bound by ethics, in particular the ethics of the Ten Commandments and the whole Law of God. For instance, taxing those who are productive to redistribute wealth to those who are not productive is a direct violation of Thou shalt not steal. A thief puts a gun to your head to take your money, and if you refuse to pay your confiscatory taxes some government agent will eventually put a gun to your head in like manner. A thief is a thief. Therefore loyal, patriotic Americans have a lot of work to do to restore our nation as it is presently governed to a nation truly under God. God is indeed in the business of politics, so the church must be also. So, as a preacher, I will open my big political mouth to say now that Governor Sarah Palin is running for Vice- President it is wonderful to have (along with Senator McCain) a politician who will not murder babies, but she will kill unwanted taxes. Should anyone from the Federal Government like to take issue with me for what I have just written, they can meet me in front of my church, in the street, at high noon. I might not be a good shot, but I m convinced Sarah Palin is; she is no girlie-man. God bless America and go careful.

7 Dear Cajon Cowboys Thank you for the package of goodies. It is by far the best box I have received yet. You all even got my favorite snack in, the fruit and nut bars. My Grandpa always talks about everyone. I will be home soon and will definitely come up to say hello. I might even send a few rounds down the range. The weather here is kind of like California, always hot. The dust storms make the sky turn orange and then there is no staying clean. Every other day is mail day so it is always nice to get something from home. Thank you all for all of your support and prayers, God bless and Semper Fi Sgt. Beth E. Kehr United States Marine Corps Note: This is Dakota Hipshot s Granddaughter Dear Bojack, Patti, and all the Cajon Cowboys, Thanks you so much for the beautiful Gardenia Bonsai. You probably don t know that my dad had lost his favorite Gardenia bush last year! Mom and I are very touched that we have a new gardenia plant to nurture. Your friendship has meant so much to the entire Ming Family even those you haven t met. It was the ultimate tribute to cancel the match so we could all celebrate my dad s life as a big cowboy family! I ll be back to play with you guys as soon as I can walk again! We are very thankful for the prayers, support and love that you have shown us. Your understanding of what Dennis meant to us and to those he encountered gave us comfort. We know the following days and months are going to be difficult as we adjust to the changes in our lives, but we have been blessed with wonderful friends and family. Thanks you for being one of them Love, Jeanie and Jessika
8 (Continued from page 1) however, the Mormons accused him of diverting Mormon funds into his own business and expelled him from the church. When James Marshall discovered gold in 1848, Brannan capitalized by widely publicizing the discovery and outfitting the flood of prospectors. Before long, he became the Golden State's first millionaire. The next year he returned to san Francisco, were he was elected to the City Council and played a leading role in organizing the controversial Committee of Vigilance. Continuing in various business ventures, including land investments, banking, and railroad and telegraph companies, his wealth continued to grow. However, Brannan was a serious drinker, which ultimately led to his loss of fortune and his death in 1889.
