2 From the Desk of Doc Holliday Now I know that July is the month when we celebrate freedom. And who knows better than Christians about the gift of freedom we receive when we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior (Gal. 5:1). But this month I thought I would invite us into the freedom of fun. In the following story see how many books of the Bible you can find. Someone showed me this story and remarked that there are twenty books of the Bible hidden here. He challenged me to find them. Sure enough, they re here. Still these things liken to a lulu kept me looking so hard for the longest time! Some of you will get bogged down with the facts. Others are hit by them like they were some kind of revelation or something. You may get in a jam especially since the names are not capitalized and often leap the spaces between the words. This makes it a real job to find them. But it ll provide a most fascinating few minutes for you. Yes, there are some really easy ones to spot, but don t get the big head, cause truthfully, you ll soon figure that it would take most federal judges and preachers numbers of hours to find them all. I will admit that it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and that is not uncommon for there are to be loud lamentations when it is pointed out. One lady says that when she is confronted with puzzles like this, she brews a cup of tea to help her concentrate better. But then, this gal s a real pro! Verbs, nouns, and all that stuff are her thing. See how well you can compete. Relax. There really are twenty names of Bible books in this story. If you fail to find them, there s a penalty. You ll have to go fly a kite, sit on a banana, hum the Battle Hymn of the Republic, or hose a dog (a mean one). So, pull out your Bibles and good luck! Peace, Pastor Lee

8 July food cupboard item: Canned fruits and/or veggies or any other non-perishable food you would like to donate is always welcome. The food cupboard is located at the back of the sanctuary. Please check the expiration date of donated food. Mission is collecting empty small metal tins (Altoids, Sucrets, Fisherman s Friend) for a project next year. You may drop the empty tins off at the church office. Thank you. Pick up a copy of Pastor Holiday s Funeral/Memorial Service guide on the table in the Narthex. If you would like to order flowers for the re-table, please call Ron Clements at If you wish to receive a copy of Pastor Holliday s sermon, notify Jeff Trethewey at or the church office if you wish to receive the sermon by . There are also copies in the binder on the table in the Narthex. The Lion s Club is collecting your used eyeglasses, eyeglass cases and old hearing aids. Operation Christmas Child - we are starting to collect items now for a November drop off. Any small toy, game, cards, stuffed animal, doll, clothing, or book that can fit in a shoe box is needed. You may drop labeled items in the church office. Footprints on the Future is collecting: - Fancy/smallish buttons for a project next year. - Mason or Ball jars for a craft project. Any size jar, with or without lids are needed. - Cloth ribbon any color Labeled items may be dropped off in the church office. 10 There is a collection bin for returnable bottles and cans located in the coat room. This is an easy way to help with our mission projects and saves you a trip to the redemption center. If you wish to take your bottles and cans yourself, Empower has a redemption Center at 4701 Military Road (near the intersection of Rt 31). Bacon Memorial Church is Acct #1. Please call the Church Office at or give Pastor Holliday a note after worship when you or a family member will be admitted to an area hospital. Because of privacy regulations, the hospital is no longer permitted to call us when someone is hospitalized. We must rely on you, family, other members and friends to let us know. Also, please remember this privacy law when sharing information with the congregation. It is unlawful to reveal specific data regarding someone s health without his or her permission or a parent s permission if a child. The Magdalene Project needs items for incarcerated and recently released women. Personal care items, soft cover books, coloring books, puzzle books, Word Search, etc. For a list of the items being collected for the Magdalene Project and Kids Club, you may pick up a copy in front of the collection box on the table in the Narthex. Prayer Shawls can be given to anyone who is ill or homebound. One does not need to be a Bacon member to receive a shawl. For more information on the Prayer Shawl Ministry, call Cheryl McInerney at Any donations of yarn or money to buy yarn are always welcome. No yarn is wasted. Even partial skeins can be used. Habitat for Humanity looking for anyone willing to work on a house or help in any way let Pastor Lee ( )or Cheryl ( ) know so we can include you on any updates.

11 Does your child want to go to Duffield Camp & Retreat Center this summer? The Mission Committee has some scholarship money available to help with tuition. Have your child write a letter to the Bacon Memorial Mission Committee telling what camp means to them and why they want to attend. Submit letter as soon as possible. Camp begins in July!! Fridays at noon - Crochet, Knitting and Quilting group. Anyone wishing to learn to knit, crochet, or quilt, learn a new stitch or work on a project is welcome.
