2 21ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 26, 2018 From the Pastor s Pen There were disciples who followed Jesus but later left him; those disciples are mentioned in today s Gospel. Perhaps our life journey has been similar. Initially, we may have been enthusiastic about Jesus. Then, we have lately grown complacent. On March 14, 1986,if you had invested $10,000 Into Microsoft stock, it would be worth more than $6,192,264 today. That s a $619 return for every dollar invested. Peter and other early investor disciples who followed Jesus have surely reaped untold treasures where the Lord has gone to prepare a place for them. Meanwhile, the market is still open for those who want to invest in Jesus, the Holy One of God. From the Pastor s Pen for the Youth and others Joshua presents a blunt either/or choice: Are you going to follow the real God or those Amorite gods? Young people aren t accustomed to making such a clear-cut faith decision. The culture proclaims you can have it both ways, any which way you wish, and it will all work out. Today s Amorite gods include items in the categories of hedonism, and whateverism. (Queen s classic rock ballad Bohemian Rhapsody eloquently captured the latter: Any way the wind blows, doesn t really matter to me. ) Homilists (and all adults) need to lead youth to realize that sometimes we simply have to decide, As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Take care of Brothers and Sisters who are weaker. The elderly, the sick, the hungry and strangers, because we will be judged on this ~ Pope Francis We are in need of a current Eucharistic Minister to assist with distributing communion at Century Oak Nursing Home in Middleburg Hts. If you feel the call to serve this ministry you are only required to distribute once every 5 weeks. This is done after the 9:00 Mass on Sunday and takes 30 to 45 minutes at the nursing home. If you are willing to consider serving this very important ministry please call the Parish Office at
