2 30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCT. 28, 2018 From the Pastor s Pen Blind Bartimaeus knew he had only one chance to regain his sight. Jesus had cured others, he could cure him. The blind man heard the clamoring crowds and knew Jesus was near. He also knew that once Jesus passed him by there would be no more hope of ending the darkness. It was now or never. He had to find Jesus. We all know that life must end in death but until that day, we still have a chance to encounter Jesus in our lives. Every new day is another new change to find him. Human nature lulls us with I still have lots of time, I will do it tomorrow. But in the fine print of our lives, Matthew says. Therefore,,stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour (25:13). From the Pastor s Pen for the Youth and others Many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. Younger siblings or kisser-ranking classmates often get told sometimes overtly, sometimes subtly to make themselves scarce, hush up, stop bothering us, etc., just as Bartimaeus was. He is just an unproductive blind beggar; he/she is just a pesky little kid that needs to stop being such a pain. Master, I want to see. Most youths are able to see physically. Encourage them to consider other types of sight the type for example, that can see into a strangely-acting classmate or one in obvious distress and imagine possible reasons or aid. If the lack that kind of sight, encourage them to, like Bartimaeus, ask for it. PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY Pope Francis said I invite everyone to pray to the heart of Jesus...to support with closeness and affection your priests so that they always reflect the image of that heart full of merciful love. It is a time for us to reflect on the ministry that our priests share with us when we gather at the Table of the Lord - when we call in our times of need. Consider sharing a personal note of card of thanks with our Pastor Fr. Len Bacik. On this Priesthood Sunday, we gratefully reflect on the gift of priesthood for the Church and for those men who have generously responded to this vocation. We invite the Catholic community to pray that the Holy Spirit may inspire more men to discern this call of service. May their hearts be open to hearing and responding to God s call in their lives. Over the years the drive has helped St. Augustine and LaSagrada Familia parishes of Cleveland, The West Side Catholic Center and the SVDP Ozanam Center on Broadview Rd. Contributions of new or gently used clothing, non-perishable food, or monetary donations are welcome and will be greatly appreciated.
