I hope to see each and every one at camp serving behind the scenes sometime this year. Prayer Chapel, which is the key to our Mission is always looking for people to come and pray. 72-Hour Prayer Vigil has a hard time to get all the slots filled. We need your help in this area. Set-up & Take-down still needs help. And of course Candlelight, Dinning Hall, Kitchen and all the other areas that have to be filled in order to run the walks. One area we hope to get improved this year is communication. So at Candlelights, we will be passing out clip boards for you to fill-in with your contact information. You will also need to let us know if you would like your newsletters by US Mail or . If you have any ideas on how to improve communication, the board will take a look at your ideas. The Chrysalis youth ministry is reorganizing, and we ask you to be in prayer for them. And if you would like to serve in that area, please let Debbie Nantz know. 3 News From The Chrysalis Board The 2010 Chrysalis Board met Saturday, February 6th for the first of many meetings as we prepare to move forward planning flights for our youth 15 to 18 years of age. We discussed the fact that the scheduled flights for August 2010 conflicts with Spirituous(?), yet these are the only dates available at Camp Loy White for this year. Prayerfully we can change those dates in the coming years. As I have stated in the past, we must be willing to give up something in order to gain something. We must prepare for these flights as scheduled. This is where you come in, we need Caterpillars, as of today we only have possibly 6 girls' and no boys' applications. The cost for a Caterpillar is $100 for the weekend. Applications are available online at We need at least 20 of each in order to make a flight. In the past there have been waiting lists for these flights, that is no longer the case. We have allowed the world to determine what is important in the lives of our youth. Our plea goes out to you, the Emmaus Community, we need to take a stand. Secondly we, the Chrysalis Board, are still in need of others willing to serve these youth. There are still positions left unfilled: one Assistant Spiritual Director, a Vice Chairperson, someone to operate the Kitchen, someone to over see Logistics/Supplies, and someone in Reunion Groups/Sponsorship Training We are also in need of books for the book table these books are not charged for, they are given as gifts to the youth. They should be age appropriate and spiritually based. If you should have or are willing to purchase any books for Chrysalis please get them to Camp Loy White or let us know and we will make arrangements to pick them up from you. In His Grace, Debra Nantz Emmanuel Chrysalis Community Lay Director FLY WITH CHRIST!!! March-April-May 2010 "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" Jeremiah 29:11 Here s some ways how YOU can help during a walk or flight Come to work in the kitchen or dinning room for any meal. Stay after the meal to help clean-up and set-up for the next meal. Sign-up for the 72-Hour Prayer Vigil. Write letters to the pilgrims. Supply Agape Gifts for all including Snack Table Agape. Donate gently used Christian books for the Book Table. Remember each of us has a talent to share, a role to play and it will take all of us working together to make this become a reality! Page 3

4 Emmanuel Emmaus Team Selection Guidelines Purpose When we figure out what it means to lead by serving, this is when we truly understand what servanthood was meant to be. (taken from Page 4 It is the desire of the Board of Directors of the Emmanuel Emmaus community to set guidelines for our team selection process. It is also the desire of the board to follow the guidelines set forth by The Upper Room as closely as possible. The Emmanuel team selection committee shall be chaired by an active board member and consist of eight other non-board members. The eight other members shall consist of men and women from different areas of our community. The Emmanuel team selection shall meet on two women s walks in the spring to choose potential team members for the fall walks and on two women s walks in the fall to choose prospective team members for the following spring walks each year. We usually have eight walks a year so potential team members will be chosen for one men s and one women s walk in order of the walk s. Team members shall serve a three year staggered terms and shall be approved by the board each year in January. The board and the team selection committee should be in prayer for guidance in the team selection and formation process. Progressive Servanthood The purpose of an established progression of responsibilities for Emmaus community members is twofold: Leadership training and spiritual development. A person s readiness to carry out his particular assignment effectively often depends on and is always enhanced by prior experience in another position. The progression of responsibilities starts with support roles (agape, kitchen, and set-up) and then moves into the conference room. (The Upper Room Handbook on Emmaus page 23). A potential team member should also be involved in fourth day activities Team Manuel Page 5: 1. Regular church attendance 2. Involvement in their local church 3. Ongoing participation in reunion group 4. Support of Emmaus gatherings 5. Servanthood ministry behind the scenes of Emmaus walks It is not the intention of the Board of Director s to keep anyone from serving on a team, but to make sure that a potential team member has followed the progressive servanthood role and is ready to move into the conference room. Support roles for the Emmanuel Emmaus are: Set-up/Take-down, kitchen/dining room, prayer chapel, set-up/take-down of candlelight, music, and support. We as a board feel that it is important that one has worked behind the scenes at the camp in order that you will get to know how Emmaus works and for others to get to know you before you serve in the conference room.

5 Team Selection Guidelines Continued March-April-May 2010 Guidelines The Emmanuel team selection committee will select prospective team members for the men s walk first and then the women s walk. The potential team members will be taken from the community membership records indicating a person s progressive team experience and progressive servanthood. The team list will have two experienced Assistant Lay Director s, two new Assistance Lay Director s, Three experienced Table Leaders, three new Table Leaders, and six assistant table leaders. The list should have 10 to 25 names of eligible persons for each position. A person should serve as Assistant Table leader one time, Table Leader two times, and ALD two to three times before moving up to LD. A person that hasn t served behind the scenes in 3 years will be moved to the bottom of the list and removed after 5 years. In case of a needed replacement after team meetings have started, the Lay Director may choose to work with one less team member as long as the talks are covered, or a past LD may serve in the vacant position (not in the same year). A Board Representative cannot serve two roles on a walk. The Board of Directors shall approve the potential team members. After board approval a team, initial list of names can be given to the Lay Director. A person may serve on a team once in a calendar year. Team members limited from same church to 6 members. A team member should not be a sponsor or close relative to a pilgrim on the same walk. After team is confirmed, send list to newsletter editor, registrar, and team selection members. Music & Entertainment We are looking for musicians in our community. We need help with the music for our Walks, as well as, for our Gatherings. It is a great ministry and the Emmaus songs are very simple. Guitar players, harmonica players, keyboard players ALL musicians are welcome! Please contact Alan Wacaster for more information or to join this wonderful ministry! Being God s Hands examine your definition of servanthood. God does everything with great compassion, and He asks us to do likewise Take Time. Be Humble. Keep On. Love! (taken from Page 5

14 Emmanuel Emmaus C/O April Putman PO Box 454 Belmont, NC We re on the Web! EmmanuelEmmaus.com Chrysalis Testimony Won t you give Chrysalis an opportunity to touch a youth or young adult in your life? My original flight was six years ago. After my flight, I served on two teams and worked in Big House ever since. God used Chrysalis to change my life in so many ways not only was my flight a huge impact, but every flight since then has caused a renewal of my spirit. I could never explain to an outsider how close I am to the people I ve met and the way the fellowship of this community feeds my spiritual well being. God has drawn us together to lift one another up so we may reach outward to those we interact with everyday. Without God working through Chrysalis, I would have never found the strength to be bold and declare my faith, I wouldn t know what it means to be lifted up in prayer constantly by multiple people, and I wouldn t know what it feels like to have people you don t even know love you unconditionally. I would hate to see something that has impacted my life and many others in such an awesome way to come to an end in our area. With all that said I know that we have come to a standstill lately as far as leadership and what direction to take. Most of all we need to pray we need to pray for guidance and leadership. God has to be the center of this ministry for it to be effective. Please, cry out to God and ask what He would have us to do to minister to His children. Love in Christ, Emily Nantz Emmanuel Chrysalis Flight #6 Table of Fishing for the Word
