1 November 208 WOMEN S GROUPS SCS -Eight ladies met in October to finish the chapter on Jesus resurrection. It was decided to have our November/December Holiday Potluck on November 27 th at 6:30. All church women are invited to attend and the S.C.S. members are asked to bring a dish or 2 to pass. We will also have our annual cookie exchange so if you are interested in participating please bring 2 dozen cookies to share. Young Women bible study for women between the ages of will be held at 7:00 pm on the 2 nd Wednesday of every month. If you would like more information or have any questions please contact Daphne at 85/ WIC-----Greetings to all of you! Our UMW has been busy this past spring and summer. With fall upon us, I just want to get the word out of some very important dates. The UMW will be holding a silent auction beginning October 28 through November th. The family of Lenore Jones donated a beautiful quilt that was hand pieced and quilted by the UMW Willing Workers Quilt Circle in The starting donation will be $00 with a minimum $0 increase thereafter. The winning donation will be announced November at noon during the UMW Fall grilled cheese and soup luncheon. The winning donation will be given to the Stain Glass Window Fund in honor of Lenore. Please contact Wendy Johnson with any questions. November, 208 we will have grilled cheese sandwiches and a tomato soup lunch immediately following church service. There will also be an assortment of our ladies delicious desserts!! In closing, know that you ALL are United Methodist Women! Wendy Opportunities for Spiritual Growth All Church Advent Study The Christmas Experience Looking for something different this advent season to bring the Christmas story to life in a new, fresh way? Join us for our All Church Advent Study, The Christmas Experience. This imaginative Bible-based study examines the important truths discovered that first Christmas, God always keeps His promises. This is a 6-week study that features a full-length movie on the birth of Christ. We will watch a 30-minute portion of the movie at each session and share our thoughts and insights. 3 Attitude of Gratitude Jesus lived a life of gratitude, he was always giving thanks to God. Our lives are often the exact opposite of that. Instead of counting our blessings we are quick to keep score of our problems. I wonder how our life would be different if we were more like Jesus in this? When Jesus fed a crowd of thousands of people with five loaves and two fish that a little boy shared the first thing he did was give thanks (John 6:). The crowd was fed and there was food leftover. When Jesus stood before the grave of his friend Lazarus who had died, Jesus looked up to heaven and prayed. He thanked God for hearing him. Then he called to his friend, Lazarus, come out (John :43). Lazarus walked out of the tomb he had been buried in for four days. On the last night of his life, sharing his last meal with his disciples, Jesus took a loaf of bread and a cup of wine, and gave thanks. (Luke 22:9) In each of the examples above, Jesus prayed a prayer of thanksgiving and what followed was some of God s greatest displays of power. What if we focused on giving thanks? What if we focused on that for just one month? What if each day during the month of November, our Thanksgiving month, we found things to thank God for each day? I wonder what great display of God s power we might see in our lives, in our church and in our world. Would you do that with me in November, each day will you list just three things you have to be thankful for? No repeats, three new things each day to be thankful for. Keep a journal or a list starting November st and ending on Thanksgiving Day. See how your life is different it you focus on gratitude. 5 OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE Calling all volunteers! LUMC has teamed up with the South East Linn Community to help provided meals to our Mt. Vernon community the Meals on Wheels program. The month we have signed up for is December. The time commitment is only hour per day. You can sign up per or a whole week. What does the job entail? All you do is report to the SELCC between :5-:30 am. The kitchen volunteers will have a warmer bag for the hot meals and a cooler for the meal sides and milk. Sometimes you will also have bag to deliver their pantry orders. The kitchen will give you the client list with address, deliver the meals with a quick visit and drop off the empty warmer bag and cooler back to SELCC. It's that easy! Thank you from Dawn 7 years is a God number and it has really hit home when I look back at the last 7 years; it seems was placed in this job with perfect timing into the perfect place for my life. By having to be at my job at the one place I could have the most loving interaction at the hardest time of my life was a God miracle. Having the experience from my previous jobs to be able to step in and help has been a privilege and to get paid for it.. Wow what a bonus!!the flexibility to let my family come first and expose my little ones to the church family from the inside out has made God s house a home, what a blessing. Beginning to learn the importance of compassion and discernment without judging has been such eye opener. We are not alone in our experiences or trials and with the help of God s family we can all grow to Love Him more. I know I sure have. Thanks so much for the flowers, the reception, the gifts and cares and for the opportunity to help at church and as my husband quotes if I forget to tell you later, I had a great time!.
