1 Parent News Thursday, December 8, 2011 PO Box 41 Rehoboth, NM Phone: Fax: Website: School Theme: I believe in the one who the rulers of the earth ignored and the proud could never understand; whose life was among common people, whose welcome came from persons of hungry hearts. We are therefore God s ambassadors 2 Corinthians 5: 20 UPCOMING EVENTS Dec. 16-Discussion on New High School Dec. 17- RCS Alumni Choir Rehearsal Dec. 18-Rehoboth Choir Concert Dec. 19-Board Meeting Dec. 19 week- NO ASP Dec. 20- End of First Semester Dec. 21-Winter Break Begins INs and OUTs A Christmas Creed I believe in Jesus Christ and in the beauty of the gospel begun in Bethlehem. I believe in the one who proclaimed the love of God to be invincible: I believe in the one whose cradle was a mother's arms, whose modest home in Nazareth had love for its only wealth, who looked at persons and made them see what God's love saw in them, who by love brought sinners back to purity, and lifted human weakness up to meet the strength of God. I confess my ever-lasting need of God: The need of forgiveness for our selfishness and greed, the need of new life for empty souls, the need of love for hearts grown cold. I believe in God who gives us the best of himself. I believe in Jesus, the son of the living God, born in Bethlehem this night, for me and for the world. Anonymous I believe in the one whose spirit glorified a little town; and whose spirit still brings music to persons all over the world, in towns both large and small. I believe in the one for whom the crowded inn could find no room, and I confess that my heart still sometimes wants to exclude Christ from my life today.
2 ELEMENTARY EVENTS Cold Temperatures With the cold temperatures of winter upon us, please make sure your children dress warmly when coming to school! Students will be on the playground during recess times unless it is below 15 degrees. Please label all students outerwear with their name so if it is misplaced we can easily return it to them. Our lost and found pile is very large again and will be given away if things are not claimed. Boxes of Love You are invited to Rehoboth Church on Friday, Dec 9, from 3:30 6:00 PM and / or Saturday, Dec 10, from 9 12:00 to shop for warm winter clothing, coats, and blankets etc. These Boxes of Love were donated to bless the Rehoboth community and family by many Christian people in Pella, Iowa. If you are able, donations will be accepted but are not required. (Any donations will be used for food baskets for our community.) All Rehoboth families are welcome! Christmas Program Elementary students have been busy practicing for the upcoming Christmas program they will be performing on Thursday, December 15. We will celebrate the true meaning of Christmas by looking at other customs and traditions in countries around the world and singing some of our own Christmas carols as well. Students are asked to wear cultural / traditional costumes for the program unless they have a special part. Please join us in the Rehoboth Church for this time of worship and celebration at 7 PM. Students should report to their classrooms at 6:45 PM. (Note: There will be NO ASP on this day so children can get home and return for the program.) Spelling Bee We held our grade 4 8 Spelling Bee today! Results were not known at the time of this writing. The winner(s) will go on to the regional Spelling Bee in January. An elementary school wide spelling bee will happen in the spring where all students will be participants. Christmas Giving - The elementary students would like to give money to the World Vision organization which presented a chapel at our school. We saw a video about their work sponsoring children, providing clean water, teaching marketable skills, and much more. Our goal is for each student to give $1. Let us encourage our children to earn some money which they could give to benefit others. Your child could do extra chores or use their allowance money as they learn the joy of giving to others. Blessings, Jim Holwerda, Principal MIDDLE SCHOOL MATTERS Middle School Basketball The season is underway! The boys and girls teams have three games before Christmas Break. Come out and support the MS Lynx. Christmas Baskets In Cell and Aminga Groups, family names has been given for Christmas Baskets. Today, the 7 th and 8 th graders traveled to Wal-Mart to purchase food and other material for the baskets. Tomorrow, Friday, the 6 th graders are going shopping at Wal-Mart for their baskets. Pray that these baskets are very beneficial for the families that receive them and that the middle school students can learn the joy of giving. Semester Exams Exams will be given on the last few days of school before Christmas Break. Bible and Science exams will be given on Friday, December 16. The Math exam will be on Monday, December 19 and Social Studies will be on Tuesday, December 20. Look for review sheets that will be distributed soon in the individual classes. The kids were excited to see just how HUGE the tree was. We tried imagining what it would look like in our houses, if only we had the room!
