Current Missions of Discovery with Rick Alling, School of Earth and Space Exploartion at Arizona State University Next year we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the man walking on the moon. Rick will discuss what is happening today with missions of discovery and what the future holds. (Wednesday at 1:00PMCinema Room) High Holiday Programming with Chani Levertov Smile on Seniors offers an informative discussion sharing the customs and lore of the Jewish High Holiday season while enjoying a traditional High Holiday snack. (Thursday at 1:00PM-Cinema Room) Rosh Hashanah Lunch and Service Join us for a traditional Rosh Hashanah lunch and service. Rabbi Allouche from Congregation Beth Tefillah and Cantor Nurit Avigdor will be leading the service. (Friday at 11:30AM-Dining Room) Opportunities to Honor and Remember When loved ones pass away, they are no longer with us physically, but they are never really gone. Part of the joy in knowing that person is the ability to keep them alive in memory and spirit. JFCS would like to help celebrate their memory with you. For Senior Center participants donating more than $100, the Center provides an opportunity to create a memorial in the individual s name. These names will be placed on a memorial plaque to be displayed within the Center. Participants can also choose to honor someone in recognition of a special occasion. 4 Activity Highlights What s Happening This Week? Ballet Arizona-Join us for 10 week program, taught by Ballet Arizona professional teaching artist, Fabiola Ambrosio. Ms. Ambrosio began her ballet studies with Gloria Cruz, Rosalia Verlangiere and Eugenia Feodorovain Brazil and later she graduated at Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin in Germany. Her first professional engagement was at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, later in Germany and Austria at the Komische Oper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper and Stuttgarter Ballet. (Tuesday at 10AM-Activities Room) Du Wop with Michelle Denisio Be a part of an interactive hour with Michelle Denisio as we explore the music from the 50 s and 60 s. (Tuesday at 1:00PM-Main Street) Current Events with Bill Adler Bill will bring current events to the table for you to be able to discuss. This is a group for intellectual stimulation where there are no wrong answers and comments are welcome. Sylvia Nobel- Author Sylvia Nobel has been a resident of Arizona since With four Kendall O'Dell Mysteries, and a fifth book, Forbidden Entry, and a movie based on Deadly Sanctuary released in Spring (Tuesday at 1:00PM-Cinema Room) Phoenix Art Museum-Most of us have experienced seemingly insurmountable hurdles at some point in our lives. Unfortunately, life isn t perfect and as human beings we will face adversity. Artists are no different. We will be looking at six different artists that all used their art as a catharsis to overcome their personal trials and adversity. (Thursday at 10:00AM-Cinema Room) Arizona Jewish Historical Society-Come watch the story of one of the most popular songs in the jazz repertoire, BODY AND SOUL: AN AMERICAN BRIDGE illustrates the complex musical interplay between Jewish and African-American cultures. A great workout for toning, balance and agility. (Tuesday at 10:00AM-Pool) Painting with Nancy Grab your paint brush and canvas. This 2 hour paint class is a weekly class you do not want to miss. No previous artist experience required. (Wednesday at 9:30AM-Craft Room) Piano with Claudia Meet us on Main Street for sixty minutes of keyboard entertainment and cookies. Stop by to listen, request a favorite, sing along, or chat. It s informal and fun!
