2 Activity Highlights-What s Happening This Week? Chair Yoga with Zoe-In our class we focus on deep breathing for relaxation, stretching for strengthening our bodies and improving our mental and physical flexibility. Come ready to move and meet other social seniors like yourself! Chair yoga is a practice that incorporates gentle movements and stretches for relaxation. Focusing on our breath and body awareness, the duration of the practice is seated, but students have the option of attempting standing poses that help support our balance and strength. Each class ends with a short guided meditation or yoga teaching and time for personal reflection (Savasana). (Wednesday at 11AM-Activities Room) Musical Bingo Debbie brings her keyboard, music and handouts of 75 songs listed on each copy. You guess the song and put a bingo chip/marker on the corresponding number. The songs are familiar to you and you ll guess them right away! Combine Bingo with Name That Tune and you have Musical Bingo! (Friday at 1PM-Activities Room) Opportunities to Honor and Remember When loved ones pass away, they are no longer with us physically, but they are never really gone. Part of the joy in knowing that person is the ability to keep them alive in memory and spirit. JFCS would like to help celebrate their memory with you. For Senior Center participants donating more than $100, the Center provides an opportunity to create a memorial in the individual s name. These names will be placed on a memorial plaque to be displayed within the Center. Participants can also choose to honor someone in recognition of a special occasion. 4 Activity Highlights What s Happening This Week? Southwest Shakespeare Company presents: I speak. You speak. We all speak Shakespeare. Join us for an 8 week class. Explore Shakespeare in a whole new way. Led by company members from Southwest Shakespeare who both "speak the speech" onstage and off, Shakespeare's words will come to life through textual discussion, historical trivia, group play using the original practices, and much more. (Tuesday at 1PM- Cinema Room) Current Events with Leisah: Come join this discussion group for intellectual stimulation where there are no wrong answers and comments are welcome! In this time of so much happening around the world, we discuss these events, which change weekly, and allow our gray matter to ponder the what if s as we become the Secretary of State or even the President in making decisions that the world would have to live with. 6 Activity Highlights What s Happening This Week? Marshall Shore-Marshall Shore, Arizona s Hip Historian. His passion is uncovering the weird, the wonderful, and the obscure treasures from our past: the semi-forgotten people, places, and events that have made us who we are today. Shore uses storytelling magic, found film footage, old photographs, ephemera, and artifacts to bring our state s heritage to life in entertaining and educational presentations. (Tuesday at 1PM- Cinema Room) JFCS Monthly Specialty Lunch-Join us for our monthly specialty lunch! This month we will be exploring foods from Italy. Our menu will include: Chicken Parmesan, Pasta with Marinara, Italian Veggies, Antipasto Salad, Garlic Bread and Cannoli s for dessert. Larry Roberts will be playing traditional Italian music on his accordion during lunch. Lunch is $7 and will need to be paid upon registering for the lunch. RSVP to the Senior Center no later than January 11 th. 8 Activity Highlights What s Happening This Week? Ballet Arizona-Join us for 10 week program, taught by Ballet Arizona professional teaching artist, Fabiola Ambrosio. Ms. Ambrosio began her ballet studies with Gloria Cruz, Rosalia Verlangiere and Eugenia Feodorovain Brazil and later she graduated at Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin in Germany. Her first professional engagement was at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, later in Germany and Austria at the Komische Oper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper and Stuttgarter Ballet. (Tuesday at 10AM-Activities Room) Exotic Travel through the Eyes of Renowned Photographer Lois Zuckerman Lois has photographed people and places in 113 countries and on all seven continents. Lois s love of nature and adventure has led her into jungles, rushing rivers, and meeting tribal people. Lois personally led 30 photographic safaris in seven different countries in Africa. She enjoys selecting 2-3 countries or their people and showing pictures while speaking of them. Many of my photos have been featured in private shows, galleries, and publications.
