A Conversation with John James Audubon-The namesake of the National Audubon Society John James Audubon will come to life in this tour de force of his life and legacy through an impersonation. Audubon wrote and illustrated The Birds of America. His passion for the natural world is legendary, expressed through his large body of work as a major 19th century artist, naturalist, and frontiersman who embodied the spirit of early America. He ll share his amazing adventures, accomplishments, challenges and why birds matter. (Tuesday at 1:00pm-Cinema Room) Bennie Torrez-Come have a glass of wine and listen to Bennie Torrez sing and play the guitar. Bennie is known for playing country western music. (Wednesday at 1:00PM Main Street) Opportunities to Honor and Remember When loved ones pass away, they are no longer with us physically, but they are never really gone. Part of the joy in knowing that person is the ability to keep them alive in memory and spirit. JFCS would like to help celebrate their memory with you. Seeking Citizenship with Dr. Irina Levin from Arizona State University- The Soviet Union provided its citizens with opportunities to travel across a vast expanse of territories and cultures and restricted their ability to live where they pleased. One group, Meskhetians/Ahiska Turks, were forced to leave their homes in 1944 and resettled thousands of miles away. This talk is about their quest to return and the challenges they have faced, first from Soviet policies and now from international borders. (Tuesday at 1:00PM-Cinema Room) Tech Saavy Bring your smart phones, laptops, and ipads to Abbie and she will assist you with all your technical needs. (Tuesday at 1:00PM-Cinema Room) League of Women Voters-The League of Women Voters will help with the logistics of completing the ballot and will be prepared to discuss the ballot propositions, both pro and con, but will also note any of the propositions for which the League has taken a position. Since the League is strictly non-partisan they won't discuss any of the candidates. However, they will provide 4 or 5 websites that will be on a handout of where you can find biographies and/or past voting records. (Wednesday at 11:00AM- Activities Room) Arizona Jewish Historical Society The story of one of the most popular songs in the jazz repertoire, BODY AND SOUL: AN AMERICAN BRIDGE illustrates the complex musical interplay between Jewish and African-American cultures. 8 Activity Highlights What s Happening This Week? Ballet Arizona-Join us for 10 week program, taught by Ballet Arizona professional teaching artist, Fabiola Ambrosio. Ms. Ambrosio began her ballet studies with Gloria Cruz, Rosalia Verlangiere and Eugenia Feodorovain Brazil and later she graduated at Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin in Germany. Her first professional engagement was at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, later in Germany and Austria at the Komische Oper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper and Stuttgarter Ballet. (Tuesday at 10AM-Activities Room) Linda Feldman from BJE A Jewish Folktale form Algeria is the story of THE SABBATH LION. It will illustrate the rewards of faith and will warm your heart. Ballet Arizona Dance Recital Come watch the students perform who took the 10 week program, taught by Ballet Arizona professional teaching artist, Fabiola Ambrosio. We will also have the opportunity to enjoy dance performances by dance company Artz On The Move. (Tuesday at 11:00AM-Activities Room) Asia s Unqiue Jewish Communities with Dan Fellner-Dan Fellner, a six-time Fulbright fellow, travel writer and faculty associate at Arizona State University, will be presenting a highly visual lecture about the unique Jewish communities of Asia. Fellner s presentation will take the audience on a virtual journey to explore Jewish life and history in such fascinating places as Shanghai, Thailand, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Japan and Myanmar. Fellner has visited and written about these Jewish communities for a variety of newspapers and magazines. Fellner, who has visited approximately 120 countries, is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers. He spent last spring as a Fulbright Specialist lecturing at several universities in Indonesia.
