1 DO YOU KNOW Temple Sholom has a Mission Statement! It is important that we stop and reflect on occasion on our purpose as well as our achievements. Take a moment now to read. It is the mission of the Congregation of Temple Sholom to be a holy Jewish community whose members share joy, meaning, consolation, hope and connection with one another through commitment and active participation in Temple and Jewish study. In the spirit of Reform Judaism, we seek to honor our commitments to generations past and future. We invite our membership, in all its diversity, to participate as we celebrate the present renaissance in Jewish Life. -lu Brit Bd lltj}itd~ We invite the entire congregation to share our joy at the Brit Bat of our triplet daughters atr:;xl! 1)((YJM 13riax.1UI. PaHidtc Cait!Jx. axdrca. at Temple Sholom on November 11, 2006,10:00 Morning service and Brit Bat ceremony. Celebratory Kiddush to follow in the Social Hall -Skip and Annette Becker We are going to do something exciting, new, and perhaps unique in the world on 'fuesday, November 21. We are creating a new kind of interfaith service. When we have done interfaith services in the past, the host congregation has generally presented a service in the mold and format of their typical worship but made more inclusive. These services additionally have featured readings from the three faith's scriptures. This is no small thing! Not so long ago, interfaith worship, tolerance and mutual respect would have been impossible. So, while I am thrilled to participate and while I am so grateful for these Thanksgiving rituals of brotherhood, I have to confess that I always feel uncomfortable at these services. They feel so "foreign." Even though they enable us to pray together (a miracle!), I usually feel like an observer at a "watered-down" Christian service. Therefore, I proposed to the interfaith group last year that we try an experiment. We will try to create a new sort of service - one that is not built on a Christian, a Jewish, or a Muslim framework, but something wholly new, creative, and genuinely interfaith. What might a joint worship service look like if we don't begin with a traditional rubric? As you might imagine, creating a "new product" has involved a lot of work and many more meetings than the traditional way. Our group of clergy has had some terrific conversations and, I think, developed a deeper sense of community. Indeed, we have been propelled by this experience to try to revive the defunct interfaith ministerium and hope to continue our meaningful interfaith conversations throughout the year. Curious to know what we created? I hope you are! Temple Sholom is the host this year. I think we will have a better-than-usual turnout, and I am eager to hear your reactions to our service. I hope we will build on our experiences from year to year. Who knows? Perhaps we will be trendsetters nationally on innovation in interfaith worship. Plan to attend Tuesday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. o

Google "chanukah items" and check out all the possibilities! Many music CD's from which to choose, books for children and adults, videos, unique chanukiyot (Chanukah menorahs, dreidles, Jewish-themed Chanukah presents).
