4 CHILDCARE Childcare is for children ages 0-5 years. You are welcome to take your child to the Children s and Family services offered, and then return them to childcare afterwards. Please check the service schedule on pages 2-3. To register your child, please use the registration form included in your High Holiday packet or call the Temple office at (804) IN ORDER TO BE ADMITTED TO CHILDCARE, PLEASE REGISTER YOUR CHILD BY SEPTEMBER 28TH. THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS. CHILDCARE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT NO CHARGE. We encourage you to bring one toy so your child will be more comfortable in the children s activities. The toy must not have small parts. Please clearly mark all diaper bags, blankets and toys with the child s name. All food and snacks must be Dairy/Vegetation, including baby food. Parents should bring diapers, bottles and other necessities. Temple Beth-El will not be responsible for administering medication. CHILDREN MUST BE PICKED UP AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME BY AN AUTHORIZED ADULT. FOOD DRIVE Don t forget your lonely and forgotten cans! Please bring your non-perishable donations to the Temple or school. You ll find large donation boxes in three prominent locations throughout the month of October. 5 TICKET INFORMATION 2016 Ticket Process Your tickets will be automatically mailed to you if your 2016 dues are: 1) current or 75% paid OR 2) you are on a payment plan using a credit card Tickets will be mailed the week of September 12, If you do not receive tickets, please call Debbie, the office Bookkeeper, at (804) ext Members will receive a single ticket for entrance to Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur services. Keep your ticket!! Each immediate family member - 18 years and older - will receive an individual ticket. Adult children 25 years old and up need to purchase a guest ticket (see next page), unless attending college or serving in the military (valid student/military ID required). No tickets will be mailed after Friday, September 23rd to ensure a timely delivery. Tickets can be picked up at the Temple office from 9/26 through 9/30 before 4:00 p.m. Tickets not picked up in advance will be available in the Main Sanctuary foyer in the will call box. Children at High Holidays Children are welcome to attend services in the Main Sanctuary or the various family services. Children must be with a parent or a designated adult at all times (except for Breakout Sessions on pp 2-3). Childcare is available for children ages 0-5 years (see page 4). Tickets for Congregants with Special Needs Reserved seating tickets are available to members with special needs. Please fill out the special needs section of the Application for High Holy Day Tickets and mail it to the Temple office (in the envelope provided) or call Debbie at the office: (804) ext Reserved seats will be held until one hour after services begin on Erev Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and until after Kol Nidre is chanted on Kol Nidre. 6 Guest Tickets TICKET INFORMATION For the first day of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, guest tickets are $75 per Yom Tov per person for out-of-town guests or adult children (25 and over) of members. (Guest tickets are $250 per Yom Tov per person for in-town, non-member guests.) The second day of Rosh Hashanah is free to all guests, but a ticket is still required for entry (these can be ordered along with other guest tickets). Guest tickets will specify admittance to Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur services. Who will need to purchase a guest ticket? Out-of-town friends/visitors Anyone in your family that is not a member of Temple Beth-El. This includes spouses, parents, siblings, adult children (ages 25 and up, unless attending college or serving in the military), aunts, uncles and cousins visiting for the High Holy Days. To purchase guest tickets, contact Debbie, the office Bookkeeper, at (804) ext Who is entitled to complimentary tickets? Residents who are new to Richmond within the past year and have never attended High Holy Days Services at Beth-El Anyone under 35 who has never been to Temple Beth-El High Holy Days services at Beth-El Anyone who would like to attend the 2nd day of Rosh Hashanah Services Members of synagogues not in Richmond who have their synagogue send in advance a current letter of reciprocity stating they are a member in good standing. The Temple Beth-El office will not contact other synagogues on behalf of visitors or guests. 7 SEATING POLICY Seating in the Main Sanctuary is subject to availability arrive early. Any seating problems will be resolved by Head Usher, Franklin Wolf. Reserved seats for medical needs will be held until one hour after services begin on erev Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and until after Kol Nidre is chanted on Kol Nidre. No one will be seated during the following times in the Main Sanctuary: - When the congregation is standing. - During the chanting of Kol Nidre. - When the Rabbi is delivering his sermon. SYNAGOGUE GUIDELINES & DECORUM Please use only the Grove Avenue entrance to the synagogue. The synagogue will open 30 minutes before each service. Please maintain the sanctity of services by limiting conversation and dressing modestly. Please turn off all electronic communication devices before entering the synagogue. For safety reasons do not congregate on the steps. PLEASE NOTE: For security reasons, backpacks will not be allowed in the synagogue. Large handbags will be subject to search. While waiting in foyers, please remain quiet. Always use side aisles when entering the Main Sanctuary. Strollers are not allowed in the Main Sanctuary. They may be stored in the coat closets in the lobby. Strollers are allowed in the rear of the Social Hall. Please bring your own tallit. Please cooperate with the ushers. Entry to children s programs is through the administration building only. Those with asthma or other sensitivities may suffer breathing difficulties, headaches or nausea triggered by fragrances. Please refrain from using scented products (perfumed soaps, shampoos, conditioners, perfumes, colognes, etc.) out of consideration for other community members who may be allergic or sensitive, so as not to create a medical emergency. What seems a mild fragrance to one person may seem strong to others. 7

8 FASTING ON YOM KIPPUR Fasting on Yom Kippur is a sacred value in our tradition. More important, however, is the requirement to choose life (Deuteronomy 30:10). For that reason, you must not fast if you are pregnant and/or nursing, are diabetic, and/ or have any medical condition that normally requires you to eat, drink, and/or take medicine. If you have a question about whether fasting is safe for you, you should first consult your physician.
