Summer begins on June 21 and we are going to celebrate this time of year with a series of eight services beginning on June 26. These services will be different from our typical morning worship in several ways. First, the character of the service will be less formal. We will be singing more and maybe learn some new favorites. We will have more lay participation in the leadership of worship including chancel drama. The Worship Team hopes that you will find these services inspirational and enjoyable. We will kick off our Celebrate Summer! service with The Spirit Singers. This group is a ministry of the South Carolina United Methodist Conference. The Spirit Singers is an auditioned group of teens from across our state who love spreading the Gospel through song. The ministry of song, fellowship, leadership and, worship glorifies and praises God. Our own Emmie Baker is a member of this group. So, mark your calendar: June 26 - August 14 so you can Celebrate Summer! Our Annual Fish Fry June 25 at 6:00 pm. on the church campus. If you can bake cookies or make ice cream for this annual event, please contact the Church Office ( ) by June 16.

3 The Salkehatchie Campers are on their way! They will arrive on July 16 th and stay through the 23 rd. We are expecting around 42 adults and youth. They will camp out in our Sunday School rooms, eat in our fellowship hall, and serve in our community. Please be in prayer for the work that God has planned for us! Remember, on Sunday the 17 th we will have a Pot Luck Luncheon after church in their honor. Plan on bringing all of the side dishes and desserts that you dream of eating at a church dinner. We will view last year s pictures as we eat, talk, fellowship, make new friends, and visit old friends! Learn About the Work during our Salkehatchie Camp - Visit Sites There will be approximately 41 adults and four houses in our area. The Salkehatchie Committee would like to offer the members of our church a chance to see what these adults and youth are doing and what Salkehatchie is all about. We will be carrying snacks out each day at 9:30 am and 2:30 pm. If you are interested in going out to the sites to see the work in progress, please meet at the church at 9:15 am or 2:15 pm to go with us to deliver the snacks on the day you wish to go. Please call Judy Glover, if you have questions. What is Salkehatchie? Salkehatchie is a youth service ministry of the South Carolina United Methodist Church that seeks to improve the housing of low income families. Each participant pays $215 and spends a week repairing homes to make the them safer, drier, warmer places to live. In order to make this a successful endeavor, we will need the prayers and donations of time, supplies, and money of our entire church family. What an opportunity we have to make a positive impact in our community and the individual lives of the people being helped!

Taylor Tracy, daughter of Anne Marie and Damon Tracy, will attend Clemson University School of Nursing. St. John s Christian Academy Carson Walker Reed, son of Susie and Scott Reed, will attend College of Charleston. Ashley Michele Rodgers, daughter of Michele and Byron Rodgers, will attend Clemson University and major in English. Tharin Nolte, daughter of Kimberly and Ron Nolte, will attend College of Charleston. Newberry College Brooks Burnette, son of Ann and Rick Burnette, with a B.S. in Physical Education and Minor in Education. He will be PE and assistant football coach at Woodland High School in St. George beginning this fall. Michelle New, daughter of Penelope and John New, with a B.S. in Math and a Minor in Education. Clemson University Haley Evans, daughter of Dee Dee and Dave Evans, with B.S in Animal Science and will attend Veterinarian School at the University of Georgia. University of South Carolina Emma Dooley, daughter of Janet and Guy Dooley, with a B.A. in Retailing with a specialty in Fashion Merchandising. Alex Tracy, daughter of Anne Marie and Damon Tracy, with a B.A. in International Studies from the South Carolina Honors College. Furman University Daniel Roberts, son of Becky and Joe Roberts, with a B.S. in Psychology. He plans to pursue his Masters in Integrated Engineering at Ohio State University. The Citadel Graduate College Kim Steele, wife of Mike Steele, graduated with a Masters in Secondary Education Administration Blake Hall, grandson of Betty Hall and son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hall, Jr. Masters in Education. Box 9005 Orangeburg, South Carolina Phone: Thanks for Giving BERKELEY COUNTY FOOD DRIVE For our Easter mission, the Heifer Project, gifts were given in the amount of $1, With these monies, we were able to buy two heifers, a goat, a sheep, five flocks of chicks, and three hives of bees. Thank you so much for your kind donations. For each family that receives an animal, they will give a neighbor the first off-spring. This is surely the gift that keeps giving. T he Missions Team Thank you for the much needed food you have contributed. Every item helps. Monday morning, May 23, all food collected was taken to the Clinic. The gifts amounting to $100 were greatly appreciated. We will keep the drive open until the Fish Fry June 25 for those who have not had an opportunity to add to these food pantries. With much love, P. A. Gramling Upcoming Worship Events The Ascension of the Lord is ten days before Pentecost, and forty days after Easter. Since Ascension Day always falls on a weekday (always on Thursday), we will be celebrating this day on June 5. The act of Ascension (Jesus literally rising into the sky) signifies his enthronement, his being exalted to the right hand of the Father, and his authority in heaven and on earth.

6 Like the Resurrection, the Ascension of Christ is an article of our faith in God's history with us and our history as God's people. It is affirmed in all the ecumenical creeds on a par with the incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection of Christ. "He ascended into heaven affirms the core Christian conviction of the fullness of Christ's reign now and in the age to come. To learn more about this event, you may want to read one or both of two of the texts for this day: Acts 1:1-11 and Luke 24: Pentecost, the final Sunday of Easter, is June 12. This is the day we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit in power. It is also a day for baptism, confirmation, and commissioning persons for their ministries. Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday after Pentecost, is June 19. While our singing, praying and liturgical texts consistently recognize and praise God as Three in One, this is the day for celebrating and exploring this mystery most fully. 5 th Sunday Pot Luck Covered Dish Meal July 31st after Worship Service. All men are invited to attend this time of devotional, fellowship And food. The Wide Awakers Monthly Luncheon is Monday, June 20th, at 12:00 noon in the Fellowship Hall. All Senior citizens are invited to bring their covered dishes and join us for this time of food, fellowship and fun. YOUTH in June We're going to try something a little different this summer. Most of you probably remember that in years past MYF usually would not meet during June, July, and August. However, this summer we are planning several activities. We are hoping to meet at least two times a month. The calendar for June is as follows: June 5 - No MYF :( June 12 - Volleyball & Cookout at Somerset. Meet at the church bus at 5:00! June 19 - No MYF :( June 26 - "Who let the dogs out"! - Riverdogs trip. Meet at the church bus at 4:00. Bring $5 for your ticket and some money for food! Let us know of any activity ideas that you have and don't forget to bring a friend!!!
