We would like to congratulate our DU Soccer Team for the amazing win on their first match. DU Soccer Team which consists of mostly the 1st and 2nd grade boys played their first match yesterday, January 5th, 2015, and came out with a 13-5 win! Alhamdulillah! Their next match is on January 10th. Head Coach: Hazarul Anuar We would like to especially thank Br. Abdul- Karim for putting together the team and the Head Coach, Br. Hazarul Anuar for his time and effort coaching and practicing with the DU kids. Many thanks to all who came to the game and supported the players! Go DU! Students must also exhibit good attendance by attending a minimum of 90% of school days per semester in order to be considered for A/B or High Honor Roll. We will recognize these students during morning assembly on Friday, January 30th, O Allah! MashaAllah, our recent fundraising event at Chuck E Cheese on December 12th went well. Alhamdulillah, the event generated a profit of $ We thank all parents who came to support the event. 3 Issue 7 January 2015/Rabi I /Rabi II 1436 AH DU HEADLINES Page 3 Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said that the first thing a person will be asked about on the Day of Judgment is his Salat. If it was valid all his deeds will be valid and if it was invalid, all of his deeds will be invalid too. We would like to start the new year and the new semester by encouraging our students to pray their five daily prayers. Attached to this newsletter is a Salat Chart that will help our children keeping track of their Salat. InshaAllah, we will have some treats for the kids every Monday when they turn in their completed charts. They will be eligible for a prize upon completing four charts. Please follow the directions on the charts. There will be a donation box by the office; we appreciate any contribution to help purchase the prizes. Jazakakum Allah Khairan. 1st Grade held their class bake sale on December 18. Kudos to the 1st Grade teacher, Mrs. Elayyan and her wonderful parents for raising $637! It was the highest we have collected so far! It was excellently planned and executed, MashaAllah. Thank you all for making this a smash hit! We will continue with the 2nd Grade Class Bake Sale on Thursday, January16th, The bake sale will take place during lunch time (Lunch A and B). Please make sure to send cash in an envelope or ziplock bag labeled with your child's name and grade level. Daarul Uloom is pleased to announce the annual Arabic Spelling Bee for the school year. The elimination round will take place on January 16, 215 and final round is on January 23, All 1st 8th Grade students are eligible to compete. To build excitement for the Spelling Bee, January 16th will be Black and Yellow Day! The word lists for all grades was sent out before the break. The Arabic Spelling Bee competition is a great way for DU students to improve their Arabic and much fun as well. Competition and the chance to earn recognition and awards is a great motivator for students. Inshaa Allah, we will be celebrating our 100th day of school on Thursday, January 29, Today marked our 84th day of attendance, Mashaallah! We have 16 more days to go! Look for information on specific activities in the teachers website as we get closer to this ate.

Jazakum Allahu Khayran to the Events Coordinators and to the families that organized them this month. Ali 2 Class conferences were held. And we had a very informative Committee/Parents Meeting. Class Curriculum Updates Abu Bakr Class: Only remaining surah is Al-A raf. Omar Class: We started reviewing the previous surahs. Finished surat Al- Kahf. Alhumdulillah, we are done with half of the mus haf. Uthman Class: We finished surat Fussilat and surat Ghafir. We will review all surahs. Ali Class-1: We are reviewing the previous surahs and reading surat Al- Mulk. Ali Class-2: We had review week in the 1 st week of December. Students were tested on Al-Mursalat, Al-Insaan, Al-Qiyaamah, Al-Mudathir, and Al- Muzzamil. We are now at Surat Al- Qalam. Parents will be informed via of any emergency class cancellations as early as possible, notifications will be ed no later than 2 pm. Thus, all parents are requested to check their on a daily basis, especially during inclement weather. If your is down or the address has changed, please notify DU Quran Academy as soon as possible. Students are dismissed at 5:45 pm. Please remember to pick up and sign out your children no later than 6:00 pm. If you know you will be late, please have another adult sign out and monitor your child until you arrive. Thank you for your cooperation. Please do not park or stand your car in the DU circle drive. Here are some ideas to investigate: Visit your local library. Find out what resources are available for you to take home and use with your child. Get a library card for yourself and one for your child so that you can take these resources home. Check the newspapers, listen to the radio, or watch television for announcements about local educational events, exhibits, and community resource fairs. If possible, attend filed trips with your children. Volunteer to serve as a chaperone for classes. Obtain a list of community resources that are available to support you in helping your child to succeed in school. Frequent businesses that support schools by contributing a portion of their profits to schools. If you work outside the home, encourage your employer to allow certain number of hours a month to attend parent teacher conference, school performances, or to volunteer at the school. Visit the local museums. There are many types such as natural history, art, zoos, and science. These museums often have wonderfully interactive activities to inspire and motivate children to learn.
