As parents, they have their duties like kids nourishing, their education and training etc. Our existence, physically and socially progress is due to their love and day and night efforts. Looking at their sincere efforts and selfless affection; Allah SWT made it compulsory to take care about their rights. In this assignment, you have to write their five basic rights as parents mentioned in Islamic literature. Note: Answer is required in points. Write just name of the right, explain in one or two line and especially quote verse or Hadees in which this right is mentioned. Irrelevant material will be discouraged. Answer: 1. Parents are the pave-way to Paradise or Hell 2. Parents pleasure leads to Allah s goodwill 3. Gates of Paradise open for those obedient to parents 4. Extension of Life 5. Disobedience of Parents is a grave sin Parents are the pave-way to Paradise or Hell:

2 It is recorded on authority of Ibn Maja that a man asked the Holy Prophet صلى هللا عليه وسلم( (, What rights the parents had on their children. The Holy Prophet هللا عليه وسلم( )صلى answered, Both are your Paradise and your Hell. [Ibn-e-Maajja] So we should always keep in mind that obedience to parents and their service with love, compassion and due courtesy shall be the cause of entry of an individual to Paradise: and the regretful disobedience of parents and affliction of distress on them shall lead the individual to Hell. May Allah protect us from Hell. Parents pleasure leads to Allah s goodwill: )صلى هللا relates that the Holy Prophet (رضى هللا عنه) Abdullah bin Omar : saidعليه Allah s pleasure and approval are in the pleasure وسلم( and approval of the parents, and Allah s anger lies in the displeasure of the parents. [Tirmidhi] The Hadith under reference elucidates that the best source of earning Allah s goodwill is to seek the pleasure of one s parents. Allah s goodwill is obviously the best blessing, and disobedience of parents & their displeasure deprives an individual of earning Allah s goodwill. May Allah enable us to take care of our parents in order to earn His goodwill. Gates of Paradise open for those obedient to parents: صلى هللا عليه ( Prophet stated that the Holy (رضى هللا عنه) Ibn Abbas said, He who passes the night in the condition of obedience,وسلم( to his parents has both the doors of paradise open to him; and if there be only one parent alive, and the son passes the night in obedience of him (or her), he has one door of paradise open to him in the morning.

3 [Baihaqi] The Holy Prophetic tradition vividly elaborates that the parents are like gates of Heavens, and whosoever keeps his parents happy with obedience, will enter the paradise easily. It is not a difficult job. May Allah give us understanding. Extension of Life )صلى هللا عليه that the Holy Prophet (رضى هللا عنه) It is stated by Jabir, saidوسلم( Allah blesses an individual with longevity if he/she sincerely serves the parents with due regards & respect. [Ibn-e-Munabba] It may always be kept in mind that faithful obedience to parents fetches Allah s blessings, inclusive of longevity in the lifespan of the individual, while failure to serve the parents with respect & regards tends to invite the wrath of Allah thus inviting miseries of death in this world. Disobedience of Parents is a grave sin: )صلى هللا عليه states that when the Holy Prophet (رضى هللا عنه) Anas (1) said, )صلى هللا عليه وسلم( wasوسلم( asked about the grave sins, he Associating partners with Allah. (2) being disobedient & insolent to parents, (3) to kill a human being without justified reason, and (4) to become a false witness to an unwitnessed incident. [Bokhari] The grave sins quoted in the reference above are listed in the same sequence in another Hadith in SahihBokhari as well; which reflects that disobedience of parents is only next to Shirk, (i.e. Association partner with All-Mighty Allah) and is reckoned even more grave than killing a person unlawfully.

VERSE OF QURAn: Allah Said : و ال م ؤ م ن ون و ال م ؤ م ن ات ب ع ض ه م أ و ل ي اء ب ع ض ي أ م ر ون ب ال م ع ر وف و ي ن ه و ن ع ن ال م نك ر و ي ق يم و ن الص ل ة و ي ؤ ت ون الز ك اة و ي ط يع ون ا لل و ر س ول ه أ ول ئ ك س ي ر ح م ه م ا لل إ ن ا لل ع ز يز ح ك ي م The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give charity and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have mercy upon them, for Allah is Almighty and Wise. Surat al-tawba 9:71 Prophet (pbuh) said, He who defends the honour of his (Muslim) brother, Allah will secure his face against the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.
