THE SOWER SOWS THE SEED Haven t we all wondered sometimes which kind of ground we are as the seed falls? Do we spring up with joy, but then whither because the word has not taken root in us? Are we so tied up in worry and concern for material wellbeing that the word is choked off in us with cares? Or are we the rich soil on which the word of God falls, bearing rich fruit in our lives and making the lives of others better? We are probably all of these at one time or another in our lives. As we concern ourselves with these thoughts, we can hope that we are or are becoming the rich soil of open souls, open to God s effective word in us. If we are devoted to God, we ask God for help to be the souls who are receptive to God s word every day. There are those who shall indeed hear but not understand... look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people (Matthew 13:14 15). They shall not be converted and healed. But those who concern themselves with the things of God see what you see and hear what you hear (Matthew 13:16) and rejoice in God s wonderful gifts on this Earth. Blessed are those who are the good soil who hear the word of God and keep it. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. FRUIT OF THE WORD The seed is the word of God. The agricultural metaphors in all of today s readings give richness to the message that the word of God, cultivated in our hearts, bears much fruit in our lives. Creation itself awaits the redemption of all, even as our bodies await the resurrection. Just as we will rejoice in the fulfillment of God s word, so will all of creation sing for joy in the Reign of God. The word of God is effective and holy; it brings about exactly what it says. It is not futile or empty, but rich in meaning for those who hear and are healed. Those who hear the word of God and keep it will, with all creation, bear much fruit and sing for joy. Copyright J. S. EL SEMBRADOR SEMBRÓ LA SEMILLA Será que alguna vez ya nos hicimos la pregunta acerca de qué tipo de tierra somos donde cae la semilla? Crecemos con alegría, pero entonces por qué la Palabra no se ha enraizado en nosotros? Estamos tan atados a la preocupación por el bienestar material que la Palabra se ahoga en nosotros con preocupaciones? O somos la tierra fértil en la que la Palabra cae, produciendo abundante fruto en nuestras vidas y haciéndolas mejor para los demás? Probablemente somos todos esos tipos de tierra al mismo tiempo u otro en nuestras vidas. Al preocuparnos con estos pensamientos, podemos esperar que somos o estamos convirtiéndonos en la tierra fértil de almas abiertas, abrirse a la palabra efectiva de Dios en nosotros. Si somos devotos a Dios, pedimos a Dios su ayuda para ser las almas para que cada día sean receptivas a la Palabra de Dios. Están aquellos que viendo no ven y oyendo no oyen ni entienden..., porque este pueblo ha endurecido su corazón (Mateo 13:14-15). Ellos no se convertirán ni sanarán. Pero aquellos que se preocupen por las cosas de Dios porque sus ojos ven y sus oídos oyen (Mateo 13:16) y se alegran en los dones maravillosos dones de Dios a la Tierra. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Fraternal Brotherhood To the Men of Saint Patrick All of us are Knight's to some degree, we all have the capacity for charity. We feel the importance of placing our Church and our faith above everything else. At Mass, we have the opportunity to praise God and thank Him for all He has done for us, we give glory to God who made us and saved us. I am often humbled by our Lord's sacrifice at Calvary. Imagine placing oneself at the foot of the cross, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, who died once and for all for our salvation. The Love that was given so freely to each and every one of us is celebrated through the Eucharist. This is why we go to Mass...because we have been given so much. We could never repay what we have been given but we can give glory to God by how we live our lives as Christians. As men of faith, we have an obligation to protect our religious liberties by making our parishes strong and supporting our Christian communities. This is done by activism. We all have something to give as God gave us all unique gifts that are wasted only if we remain complacent. As Knights, there are different levels of support...all are equally important. You can choose to be an active Knight that participates in Parish and community events, pancake breakfast, dinner events, etc. Many of us join the Knights and simply support it's Global Initiative. By your $36 dollar yearly membership, you can help the Knight's of Columbus with their many worldwide ministries... Military Overseas Chaplain Fund, Seminarian sponsorships, Special Olympics, Christian Refugee Relief, American Wheelchair Mission, Habitat for Humanity, Walk for Life, Food for Families Drives, Coats for Kids and EWTN funding among many other important ministries. We have the opportunity to participate in a Organization that does so much for so little, $36 dollars a year. Please consider joining the Knights, a charitable organization that does so much good in the world and in our own little community at Saint Patrick Church. Our charitable activity is all the more effective when it is supported by our fraternal brotherhood, a brotherhood of some of the best men I have ever met here at Saint Patrick.

For a donation of only $1.00 you can enjoy a fresh delicious donut. All proceeds benefit the Saint James Faith Formation. St. James Society Meetings: Monthly meetings of the Saint James Society are held directly after Mass on the second Sunday of each month. If you wish to address the Board or have an item placed on the agenda, it must be received by our President Craig Davis in writing no later than the Friday before the meeting. Last week, the children who attended Catholic Kids Camp learned about being EARTH KEEPERS. Did you know that caring for God s creation is a tenet of Catholic social teaching? This fact was emphasized by Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si, On Care for Our Common Home. A quote from Laudato Si : In the Judaeo-Christian tradition, the word creation has a broader meaning than nature, for it has to do with God s loving plan in which every creature has its own value and significance. Nature is usually seen as a system which can be studied, understood and controlled, whereas creation can only be understood as a gift from the outstretched hand of the Father of all, and as a reality illuminated by the love which calls us together into universal communion. (76) ~ Enjoy a Prayer Moment with Your Child ~ God has given us so many beautiful places and creatures to care for. Let s give him our thanks for this gift: Creator God, thank you for the marvelous world you ve made. Show me how to care for it with love and wisdom, now and for the future. Amen.
