3 CONFESSION OF FAITH Daniel Praise be to the name of God forever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. SONG OF PRAISE God of Grace GETTY & REA God of grace, amazing wonder, irresistible and free; Oh, the miracle of mercy, Jesus reaches down to me. God of grace, I stand in wonder, as my God restores my soul: His own blood has paid my ransom, awesome cost to make me whole. God of grace, who loved and knew me long before the world began; Sent my Saviour down from heaven: perfect God and perfect man. God of grace, I trust in Jesus, I'm accepted as His own. Every day new grace sustains me as I lean on Him alone. God of grace, I stand astounded, cleansed, forgiven and secure. All my fears are now confounded, and my hope is ever sure. God of grace, now crowned in glory, where one day I'll see Your face; And forever I'll adore You in Your everlasting grace. PUBLIC CONFESSION OF SIN Minister: Let us confess our sins before our righteous and holy God. All: Most holy and merciful Father, we confess before You our sinful natureprone to evil and slothful in good. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from Your ways, in wasting our gifts, in forgetting Your love. O Lord, have mercy on us. Teach us to hate our sin. Send Your purifying grace into our hearts, that we may from now on live in Your light and walk in Your ways. PRIVATE CONFESSION OF SIN ASSURANCE OF PARDON Here are words you may trust, words that merit full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. To all who confess their sins and resolve to lead a new life, he says, Your sins are forgiven. 1 Timothy 1:15-16 N EW MEMBER V OWS Heather & David Boland Kendall Hamby Christy & Bryan Payne Meg Bourne Karol Ladd Leslie Peacock Maria DiPalomo Margie & Tom McCabe Alison & Chris Thomas David Drake Laurence & Spencer Moore Randy Roumillat Rachel Halla Nathan Mowrey Elaine Silva Corrie & Christopher Norfleet Kristin Zeller two
4 SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Robert Brian Rowling, III I NTERCESSORY AND OFFERTORY PRAYER Ruling Elder, Mr. Wes Boyd MUSICAL OFFERING SCRIPTURE READING* 1 Samuel "For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king." 24 Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me that I may worship the LORD." 26 And Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you. For you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel." 27 As Samuel turned to go away, Saul seized the skirt of his robe, and it tore. 28 And Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. 29 And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or have regret, for he is not a man, that he should have regret." 16 1 The LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons." 2 And Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me." And the LORD said, "Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.' 3 And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. And you shall anoint for me him whom I declare to you." 4 Samuel did what the LORD commanded and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, "Do you come peaceably?" 5 And he said, "Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice." And he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, "Surely the LORD's anointed is before him." 7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart." 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, "Neither has the LORD chosen this one." 9 Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, "Neither has the LORD chosen this one." 10 And Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. A nd Samuel said to Jesse, "The LORD has not chosen these." 11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, "Are all your sons here?" And he said, "There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep." And Samuel said to Jesse, "Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here." 12 And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the LORD said, "Arise, anoint him, for this is he." 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah. SERMON No Regret Rev. David Rea three
5 H YMN OF RESPONSE* How Firm a Foundation FOUNDATION How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in his excellent Word! What more can he say than to you he hath said, To you, who for refuge to Jesus have fled? Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed; For, I am thy God, and will still give thee aid; I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand. The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to his foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I'll never, no, never, no, never forsake. 7 ANNOUNCEMENTS Men s Spring Bible Studies Young Adult Men s Study - Wednesday Mornings 7am at the church taught by Rob Hamby The Heart of Evangelism by Jerram Barrs. All Christians are called! Called to love God with all that we are Called to serve Him Called to reach the lost. If we are honest, most of us dread this last call because we find it difficult, uncomfortable and overwhelming. While we are glad to support the evangelistic efforts of others, many of us feel discouraged and intimidated by our own attempts. Our memorized approaches don t always seem to work. Evangelism doesn t have to be a burden but can actually be a blessing when we take hold of the truth and grace God offers us in His word. The goal of this study is to take hold of the truth, grace, and encouragement that God offers to us so that we can better fulfill His call to love the lost. Friday Morning Men s Study Friday Mornings 7am at the church taught by David Rea The Gospel of Mark: The oldest and shortest of the Gospels, Mark is an action-packed account of the ministry of Jesus Christ. With a special concern for God s grace toward the Gentiles, Mark demonstrates how the Gospel applies to all kinds of people-people like you and me. Please consider joining us at the church on Friday mornings at 7am. I look forward to seeing you there. Thursday Night Men s Study - Thursday Nights 7pm at the church -taught by Ronnie Rowe The Book of Hebrews: The Letter to the Hebrews was written to encourage Christians to persevere faithfully during times of great trials and difficulties. It does so by pointing them to the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of the Lord Jesus Christ Jesus is the greatest! This study will be held at 7:00pm at the Providence Church building. We hope to see many of you there. Spring Adult Sunday School (beginning at 9am) Gospel of John: For years I ve asked people: What is the one thing you value most in life? The answer is always the same: Relationships. We were created for relationships. When someone is important to you when you really, really love a person, then you can t get enough of him/her. That s how it should be with Jesus. The Apostle Paul said that he counted all things as loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus. The Gospel of John was written to help us know Jesus more fully and have abundant life in His name. Taught By Rob Hamby. The Bible on the Second Coming of Christ: Much of popular Christian literature and media focuses on interpretations and predictions of world events that are said to be precursors to Jesus' Second Coming. The result? Massive confusion in the Christian community about what the future holds. So what does God's Word really say about the events surrounding Christ's return to earth? A re things just going to get worse and worse? How should we understand mysterious biblical prophecies and the Book of Revelation? Will there be any signs pointing to Jesus' return? If you'd like to find answers to these questions and more, join Dave Nelson in this new Sunday School class that begins January 8. New Member s Classes are here again! (beginning at 9am, February 12th) New Member Classes will be offered for those desiring to join PPC or just learn more about the church. The classes will take place during the Sunday school hour (9:00-9:55am) beginning February 12, and will meet for 9 weeks. Participants are encouraged to attend all of the classes. Classes will be taught by Ronnie Rowe & David Rea. Please contact Ashley Mowrey to sign up (ashley.mowrey@providencedallas.com). six
8 ANNOUNCEMENTS Sunday Evening Fellowship (Sundays at 5:30 at PPC beginning February 12) Join us on Sunday evenings at 5:30pm beginning February 12 for a time of fellowship and Bible study. Each week, we will gather together to build community with one another and grow in grace as we study God's word. The topic of our study will be "The Main Thing in Christianity: A Study of Luke 15." "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." The main thing in Christianity is the Gospel of grace. We will be using Tim Keller's book, The Prodigal God, to guide us through this study. No matter where you are in your walk with Christ, you will undoubtedly benefit from this time of study and fellowship. Ladies Spring Bible Studies We are offering the Bible Study, A Covenant of Love: The Ten Commandments at three different times (see below). Through looking at God's law, we will study some of the core truths about who God is, his love for us, and how we are created to live to his glory. This will be a study that will draw you to love the Lord more, and will apply directly to everyday life. All are welcome to attend any study. Monday Nights, 7:30 pm Taught by Trish Luber in the home of Lily Garrett (9925 Hathaway, 75220).
