P R O V I D E N C E P R E S B Y T E R I A N C H U R C H Order of Worship J U N E 1 6 T H, WELCOME PRELUDE CALL TO WORSHIP* Psalm Minister: The LORD is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works! All: All Your works shall praise You, O LORD, and Your saints shall bless You. Minister: They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power, to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom. All: Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations. H YMNS * Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken AUSTRIAN HYMN Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God! He, Whose Word cannot be broken, formed thee for His own abode. On the Rock of Ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose? With salvation s walls surrounded, thou may st smile at all thy foes. See the streams of living waters, springing from eternal love; Well supply thy sons and daughters, and all fear of want remove: Who can faint while such a river ever flows their thirst t assuage? Grace, which like the Lord, the Giver, never fails from age to age. Savior, if of Zion s city, I through grace a member am, Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in Thy Name. Fading is the worldling s pleasure, all his boasted pomp and show; Solid joys and lasting treasure none but Zion s children know. Hail to the Lord s Anointed LANCASHIRE Hail to the Lord s Anointed, great David s greater Son! Hail, in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, to set the captive free, To take away transgression, and rule in equity. He comes with comfort speedy to those who suffer wrong; To help the poor and needy, and bid the weak be strong; To give them songs for sighing, their darkness turn to light, Whose souls, condemned and dying, were precious in his sight. O er ev ry foe victorious, he on his throne shall rest, From age to age more glorious, all blessing and all blessed; The tide of time shall never his covenant remove; His name shall stand forever that name to us is Love. PRAYER OF I NVOCATION AND ADORATION* Rev. Ronnie Rowe

CONFESSION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism, Questions Minister: By God s righteous judgment we deserve to be punished, both now and forever :how then, can we hope to escape punishment? All: God demands that his justice be satisfied. Therefore full payment must be made, either by ourselves, or by another. Minister: Are we ourselves capable of paying this debt? All: Certainly not. Rather, we increase our guilt every day. Minister: What kind of mediator and deliverer, then, must we look for? All: One who is truly human and truly righteous, yet stronger than any creature: that is, one who at the same time is truly God. Minister: Who is this mediator, truly God, truly human, and truly righteous? All: Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is given to us to set us free completely and make us right with God. SONG OF PRAISE Father, Father of All Things FATHER OF A LL THINGS Father, Father of all things, we bless you. Father, we love and adore you. O Father, your children praise you. Father, Father of light and power, Father, your greatness surrounds the earth And all of your children declare you are Lord. Jesus, only Son of the living God, Jesus you willingly suffered that thro you we might know His love. Jesus, cleanse us, your people, and fill us. Pour down your Spirit upon us That we as your body may show forth your love. Spirit, sent by the Son to dwell in us, Living and working within us to make us more like Jesus; Spirit, fall down upon us as fire. Fill and equip us with power And draw from us love and praise to the Lord. PUBLIC CONFESSION OF SIN Minister: Let us confess our sins before our righteous and holy God. All: Heavenly Father, you are rich in mercy to all those who call upon You. We confess that we have broken Your holy laws by our deeds and by our words, and by the sinful affections of our hearts. We confess before You our disobedience and ingratitude, our pride and willfulness. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father, and forgive us for Jesus sake. Amen. PRIVATE CONFESSION OF SIN ASSURANCE OF PARDON Ephesians 2:8-9 Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Annie Starling Edwards two

I NTERCESSORY AND OFFERTORY PRAYER Ruling Elder, Mr. Howard Luber MUSICAL OFFERING SCRIPTURE READING* Joshua These are the inheritances that the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel gave them to inherit. 2 Their inheritance was by lot, just as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses for the nine and one-half tribes 6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. 8 But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the LORD my God. 9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.' 10 And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. 11 I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. 12 So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the LORD said." 13 Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. 14 Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. 15 Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba And the land had rest from war. SERMON Trusting God to the End Rev. David Rea H YMN OF RESPONSE* Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah CWM RHONDDA Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but Thou art mighty, hold me with Thy pow'rful hand. Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more; Feed me till I want no more. Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through. Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer, be Thou still my strength and shield; Be Thou still my strength and shield. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside; Bear me thro' the swelling current, land me safe on Canaan's side. Songs and praises, songs and praises, I will ever give to Thee; I will ever give to Thee. WORDS OF I NSTITUTION Rev. Ronnie Rowe three

T HE LORD S T ABLE All those who trust in Christ alone for their salvation, are baptized, and belong to a Bible believing church are invited to partake of the Lord s Supper together, feeding on the grace of God by faith. If you have not put your trust in Christ, please allow the elements to pass you by and take this opportunity to meditate on the meaning of the Gospel. A word to parents: Baptized children are invited to the table after they have made a profession of faith and been received as communing members by the Session of the church to which their parents belong. Please hold the bread, and we will partake together. Please drink the cup as you receive it. The outer ring is grape juice and the inner rings are wine. During the bread Amidst us our Beloved Stands HAMBURG Amidst us our Belovèd stands, and bids us view His piercèd hands; Points to the wounded feet and side, blest emblems of the Crucified. What food luxurious loads the board, when at His table sits the Lord! The wine how rich, the bread how sweet, when Jesus deigns the guests to meet! If now, with eyes defiled and dim, we see the signs, but see not Him; O may His love the scales displace, and bid us see Him face to face! Thou glorious Bridegroom of our hearts, Thy present smile a heav n imparts! Oh lift the veil, if veil there be, let every saint Thy beauties see! During the cup Instrumental PRAYER OF T HANKSGIVING CLOSING H YMN* O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing AZMON O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace. My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, To spread through all the earth abroad, the honors of thy Name. He breaks the power of reigning sin, he sets the pris'ner free; His blood can make the foulest clean, his blood availed for me. He speaks and, listening to his voice, new life the dead receive; The mournful, broken hearts rejoice; the humble poor believe. BENEDICTION* Numbers 6:24-26 Minister: The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.. four

ANNOUNCEMENTS Teachers and Helpers Needed in the Children s Wing for next Fall! As we continue to add classes to our children s wing, we are in need of both teachers and helpers to love and instruct our little ones during both the Sunday School and Worship hour. We are hoping to get at least 30 additional volunteers next fall so that all of our little ones can have the best environment possible to learn and grow in love for the Lord. It is such a wonderful way to make a difference! If you are interested in either teaching or helping next Fall, please contact Ashley Mowrey. Send-Off Reception for the Rowe Family Please join us on Sunday, June 23rd from 4-6pm at the church building as we say goodbye to the beloved Rowe family. Dessert and coffee will be served, and everyone is invited. If you have any questions, or would like to help with the preparations, please contact Debi Nelson at deborah.nelson3452@sbcglobal.net. Congregational Meeting for Officer Election, Sunday July 14th We are pleased to announce that the Session has unanimously approved the following men to stand for election to office at Providence Presbyterian Church: Graham Averitt, Michael Breed, and Grant Simmons for the office of Elder and Raegan Barringer, Jason Dallas, Jeff Crow, Randy McCabe, and Price Wagner for the office of Deacon. The task of prayerfully electing officers in Christ s church is a joyful privilege and serious charge for each communing member of PPC. Much like a wedding service, this process is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly, and in the fear of God. The office of elder is to open to qualified men (1 Tim 2:12-14, 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9) who are entrusted with the government and spiritual oversight of the flock, including the teaching and guarding of the Gospel, the humble shepherding of God s people, and the zealous pursuit of the glory of God in all things. The office of deacon is open to qualified men (1 Tim 3:8-13, Acts 6:3) who are entrusted with the responsibilities of caring for the needy, sick, and friendless, handling the gifts of God s people, and sacrificing their energy for the physical and spiritual well-being of Christ s church.
