The life of the church mirrors the gospel pattern in the life of a disciple. This is demonstrated in our order of worship (the bulletin you are holding): Opening moments offer recognition of the greatness and goodness of God that naturally folds into confession, assurance of pardon, songs of thanksgiving, instruction, and a charge to serve God in response to His grace in Christ. What s your one thing? What is the one thing that your heart craves? What is the one thing that you think would change your life? What is the one thing that you look to for satisfaction, contentment or peace? What is the one thing you mourn having to live without? What is the one thing that fills your daydreams and commands your sleepy meditations? What is your one thing? The spiritual reality for many of us is that the one thing is not the Lord. And the danger in that reality is this: your one thing will control your heart, and whatever controls your heart will exercise inescapable influence over your responses to the situations and relationships of your daily life. If the Lord isn t your one thing, the thing that is your one thing will be your functional lord. Here is what you say to yourself when something is your one thing: Life has meaning and I have worth only if I have in my life. The problem is that the one-thing catalog is virtually endless. Order of Worship March 3, 2019 Welcome and Announcements Prelude Team SMPC Music We believe everyone worships something and that we will inevitably imitate and serve what we worship. Celebrating His Presence Preparation for Worship Call to Worship
All Hail the Power of Jesus Name Invocation All hail the power of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all; Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all. Let every kindred, every tribe, on this terrestrial ball, To Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all; To Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all. O that with yonder sacred throng we at His feet may fall; We'll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all; We'll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all. The gospel moment is a time we use to remind people of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By His obedience we are justified, and by His death we are reconciled to God. As we apprehend this we are ready to confess our sin. A Gospel Moment The Prayer of Confession and Repentance Incomparable Savior, we thank You with all our hearts, for Your wondrous love in bearing our guilt on the cross. Thank You for giving up the praise and glory of heaven, to please Your Father and rescue us from ourselves. You lived a life of self-denial and sacrificial love for others, always obeying Your Father. We thank You for your radiant robe of righteousness, which replaces the filthy and tattered rags of our attempts to be good. You paid the full price that we owed for sin on the cross, so that we might be freed from sin and death and relentless self-worship. Holy Spirit, remind us of these truths daily. As true worship fills our souls, may we grow into people who swiftly turn from our sinful desires in order to love others as we have been so greatly loved. Since we understand that we are redeemed sinners, we agree with God about our sin to the end that we might be confirmed in the forgiveness and absolution we have in Christ. This pattern of confession makes way for affirmation and confirmation of God s covenant promise that He assures every believer of pardon for the sake of Christ s obedience and substitution.
Assurance of Pardon People: Thanks be to God! For assurance of pardon, the man who has faith is the man who is no longer looking at himself and no longer looking to himself. He looks entirely to the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work, and rests on that alone. Martyn Lloyd-Jones You Are My King (Amazing Love) I'm forgiven because You were forsaken, I'm accepted; You were condemned. I'm alive and well, Your Spirit is within me Because You died and rose again. Chorus: Amazing love, how can it be That You my King would die for me? Amazing love, I know it's true; It's my joy to honor You, in all I do I honor You. (repeat all) In all I do I honor You. The Blessing Minister: The grace of God be with you. People: And also with you. Greeting One Another in the Name of the Lord
Experiencing Renewal A Shield About Me Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me, You re my glory; You re the lifter of my head. Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me, You re my glory, You re the lifter of my head. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, You re the lifter of my head. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, You re the lifter of my head. Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me, You re my glory; You re the lifter of my head. Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me, You re my glory, You re the lifter of my head. Now that we have reenacted the story of the gospel as a church community. We now experience the renewal merited for us by Jesus Christ. We express this renewal in our singing praises to Jesus for His great mercy towards us. Beautiful Wonderful Cross There is a place where justice and mercy flow as an endless stream, Bringing salvation, life and redemption to sinners awaiting in need. Chorus: At the beautiful wonderful cross, At the beautiful wonderful cross Where the King of all glory laid down His life for us, At the beautiful wonderful cross. There is a place where things that are broken Can come be restored again; The past is forgiven, washed and forgotten By love that has conquered sin. (chorus)
Bridge: There is a place where hope everlasting Was sealed by the blood of the King To Him be all glory, honor and praises, Jesus the victory! (chorus) Jesus, our shepherd, prays with us and for us. We pray the pastoral prayer expecting the Holy Spirit to minister Jesus benefits to us as He prays for us. At the beautiful wonderful cross where the king of all glory Laid down His life for us, At the beautiful wonderful, beautiful wonderful, Beautiful wonderful cross. Pastoral Prayer Song of Preparation to Hear God s Word Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus (children 4-6 years are dismisse d to Children s Church at this time) Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His word; Just to rest upon His promise; Just to know, Thus saith the Lord. (refrain) O how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust His cleansing blood; Just in simple faith to plunge me Neath the healing, cleansing flood! (refrain) I m so glad I learned to trust Thee, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend! And I know that Thou are with me, Will be with me to the end. (refrain) Refrain: Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I ve proved Him o er and o er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust Him more!
Deepening Our Commitment Preaching of the Word Introduction: Tim Posey Series: The Superiority of Christ Freedom from Bondage Hebrews 13:5-6 Theme: Money and Your Faith Since Jesus Christ has committed Himself to us in the laying down of His precious life, we are reminded of this in the preaching of the Word and likewise called to a daily, deepening commitment to follow after Him. I. Loving money II. Learning contentment III. Living out of the promises Conclusion:
Receiving of tithes and offerings is not an add on to the service. It is part of worship. We demonstrate our trust in God s present provision and hope in our future with Him by supporting the spread of the Gospel. Receiving of Tithes and Offerings Song of Response To God Be the Glory To God be the glory, great things He hath done! So loved He the world that He gave us His Son, Who yielded His life an atonement for sin, And opened the lifegate that we may go in. (refrain) O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood! To ev ry believer the promise of God; The vilest offender who truly believes, That moment from Jesus forgiveness receives. (refrain) Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done, And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; But purer, and higher, and greater will be Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. (refrain) The Benediction is a pronouncement of God s favor upon His assembled people. Refrain: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, And give Him the glory great things He hath done! Celebrating the Lord s Supper (Please note that the outer ring is juice and the inner rings are wine; the bread is gluten free) Benediction
