This is very important to the life of our congregation; everyone s participation is critical. We are asking everyone to commit to at least one hour of quiet time, prayer and devotion between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - noon OR 6:00 p.m - midnight. Additionally, each day, beginning October 22 nd through Thanksgiving Day, November 23 rd, a short devotional message will be presented by one of our Deacons or Ministers. 4 ACTIVITIES & EVENTS WHAT MUST I DO TO BE OF SERVICE? Members of Antioch, we need you to step forward in service. Listed below are three (3) Ministries of Service areas that the Nominating Committee of Antioch are charged to staff with willing servants. This list provides a brief description of the duties in each Ministry. Please take a moment to review this information and contact me by phone, or leave your information with the church office identifying the areas where you are interested in serving. Thank you for your Service Anthony Lockhart, Chairman, Antioch Nominating Committee 1) Trustees serve as the fiscal agents for the church to hold in trust all property and assets. Trustees have the overall responsibility to ensure the financial integrity of the church. This responsibility includes the employment of adequate record keeping practices, the regular review of activity in all church accounts and the provision for the periodic audit and/or review of church financial records by an outside firm. The Trustees are also responsible for securing the services of legal counsel and professional investment advisors, setting policies and maintaining guidelines for the operation of the church facility. Trustees receive and count all tithes and offerings of the church and arrange for their deposit. All contracts entered into by the church will be signed by the Chairperson or Vicechairperson of the Board. All checks from the main church accounts will be authorized and signed by the Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson of the Board. 2) Board of Christian Education, in cooperation with the Director of Teach, shall unify, supervise and promote all educational programs of the church including the Church School (Sunday School), Vacation Bible School, the Baptist Youth Fellowship, Youth Ministry, Children s Ministry, the Nursery and all other groups and classes operating in the field of Christian Education. the promotion of the evangelistic program of the Church. It shall, under the direction of the Senior Pastor and Board of Deacons, plan for and promote home visitations, plan revival services, and engage the Church in other methods of personal and congregational evangelism. ANGEL TREE: Angel Tree Christmas is about sharing the love of Jesus Christ and reconnecting incarcerated parents with their children. This year our goal is to provide 145 children with clothing and toys. Donors are needed to purchase gifts on behalf of the incarcerated parents. Angel Tree gift tags will be available for pick-up starting next Sunday, October 29 th in Branch Hall following the morning worship service. Donated gifts are due Sunday (after Thanksgiving), November 26 th. Questions may be directed to Debra Groce or Dcn. Sherri Chavers. ANTIOCH 125 TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: Thank you to all who have already responded to the call to get involved in the exciting plans for the celebration of Antioch's 125 th Anniversary Celebration. This is an excellent opportunity for new members to learn more about their new church home, and a great opportunity for seasoned and long-standing members to reunite, reclaim and remember the amazing milestones the church has achieved for 125 years and counting. Fill out your form and return it to the metal boxes in the front and back of the church labeled 125 th Anniversary, or, put completed form in the mailbox marked Bulletin Tear-Offs located in the Reception area. Pick up a flyer in the Sanctuary and/or McMickle Chapel to share with friends and family about the facts of Breast Cancer. ANTIOCH BOOK CLUB: "The New Jim Crow in the Age of Colorblindness" by Michelle Alexander. Join us on Mondays, 6:45 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Nursery/Dance Studio area in the McKinney Center Lower Level for a time of vibrant discussion and reflections. The Color of Justice OCTOBER 24 TH BANDAGES FOR THE CONGO: Tuesday, October 24 th, 4:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Tearing, sewing, destringing and rolling bandages. Come prepared to fellowship and work on a mission project that might become a hallmark. An appetite-satisfying snack will be provided. Spread the word. Twenty-five (25) to 30 workers would be good. OCTOBER 28 TH SAVE THE DATE HALLO-LUJAH FESTIVAL: Mark your calendars to VOLUNTEER for the Hallo- Lujah Festival on Saturday, October 28 th from 1:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. This is Antioch s Largest Community Outreach Event, and our FUN ALTERNATIVE to Halloween where the Gospel Message is given. We need EVERYONE to help by BRINGING CANDY, JOINING A TEAM to help on that day, AND/OR the week before with SET-UP and CLEAN-UP. Sign up to volunteer in Branch Hall today! OCTOBER 29 TH SUNDAY SCHOOL: Join Us! 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., 5 th Sunday Combined Classes will meet in the Sanctuary! The Sunday School Lesson for this week, God s Covenant with the Returned Exiles, Bible Background NEHEMIAH 9-10, Printed Text, NEHEMIAH 9:32-38, 10:28-29 Devotional Reading PSALM 103:1-14. People find themselves in painful consequences of their own wrongdoing. In the embarrassing angst of suffering for their own wrongs, how can they dare ask for help from others? The people of Israel followed Nehemiah in confessing their wrongs and making a covenant with God to obey the law given through Moses. The Sunday School Department OCTOBER 29 TH CANCER SURVIVORS RECOGNITION: On Sunday, October 29 th, we'd like to recognize and honor cancer survivors during the church service, as well as a small reception following service in Branch Hall. Also, the Fantroys will be taking photos of survivors following service every Sunday in October in Branch Hall to create a collage of survivors.
