These donations to the Christmas Parade fund, which offsets the cost of advertising and provides prize money and trophies for floats and other entries, makes it possible to continue this long-standing holiday tradition. And, for that, the Chamber says, Thank You. Several donations have already been received, with the hopes of more to come. Thank you for your generosity! If you would like to be a Parade Sponsor, you may mail your contribution to: Ava Chamber of Commerce P.O. Box 1103, Ava, MO Holiday Events Friday Night Christmas Frolic on the Ava Square will be held Friday, December 9th, from 5:30-7pm. 2 Page 2 From The Mayor s Desk City of Ava News For those of you who do not subscribe to the Douglas County Historical Society Journal, you will miss reading about all the work that has been completed at the Bill Martin Memorial Airport. David and Mary Kay Davidson have spent hours redoing the office and many other things at our airport. Get a copy of the journal and read about the history of our airport. The topic of the day appears to be why the City of Ava is rezoning the county property that used to belong to White River Electric. The zoning will go from B-2 to B-3, which is a much better zoning for public use. B-2 is mainly central business, and the planning and zoning board decided months ago to eliminate B-2 areas. This has nothing to do with building the jail. A jail could legally be built in a B-2 zone area, so the rezoning is simply to clean up our zoning areas and make them more accurate. Many people have inquired about the new entryway that has been added to Highway 5 between the stoplight and Y highway. Highway 5 is a limited access highway and no new exits or entryways can be added, and have not been added, since completion of the highway in early However, if you own an exit or entryway on the highway, as Mr. Evans does, one may trade with MoDOT and close one entry to a property and open another one. This is how he got permission to do the new entry into his family property. Development of the property is a family issue and no applications have been received by the city regarding any kind of development. We are slowly finishing up NW 4th Street and getting all the homes reconnected to our main water line. New asphalt will be laid on that street next summer, and we needed to complete all the digging prior to laying the new road. Cleanup week went well, and we are still picking up brush. Our final leaf pick up of the year will the first full week in December, beginning on December 5, Who would have thought we would still be mowing in December. Our maintenance crews are about mowed to death and we hope this last mowing will be it until next spring. Our brush crew will be out all winter trimming and cutting trees and helping people remove brush. If you have brush to be removed, please call City Utilities at If anyone has questions, please don t hesitate to contact us or visit us here at City Hall. Someone is always here from 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday. The number at City Hall is Sincerely, Mayor David Norman 2017 Chamber Membership Dues need to be in our office by January 1st!
