4 From Dcn. Tim s Desk: Gaudete et Exsultate REJOICE AND BE GLAD In his papal exhortation, Rejoice and Be Glad, Pope Francis says holiness is the most attractive face of the church. The important thing is that each believer discern his or her own path, he writes, that they bring out the very best of themselves, the most personal gifts that God has placed in their hearts, rather than hopelessly trying to imitate something not meant for them. Although many are frequently tempted to think that holiness is only for those who can withdraw from ordinary affairs to spend much time in prayer, the pope says, that is not the case. All are called to holiness, a holiness that is attainable. Music Ministry Did You Know?..."Holy, Holy, Holy!" was written by Reginald Heber ( ), inspired by the Nicene Creed, for use on Trinity Sunday before or the after the creed was recited. It quotes the Sanctus of the Latin Mass, which translated into English begins "Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God of Hosts". The text also paraphrases Revelation 4:1 11 and Isaiah 6:1-3 to sing the great majesty of the triune God. John Bacchus Dykes composed the tune Nicaea for this hymn in The tune name is a tribute to the First Council of Nicaea, which formalized the doctrine of the Trinity in 325. (Note: In 325 AD, Church leaders convened in the town of Nicaea in Bithynia to formulate a consensus of belief and practice amongst Christians - the Nicene Creed - to establish a firm belief in the Trinity.) Religious Education News Vacation Bible School June (6-8:30pm) in the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Center. It serves children in pre-k to grade 4. Youth are invited to volunteer as leaders. VBS GAME ON encourages children and youth to gear up and get ready for life s challenges. Prayer: Pray for VBS leaders to have the stamina, wisdom, and patience they need to care for the young children. St. Teresa of Calcutta Respect for Life * A Baltimore County woman experienced the heartache of a stillborn birth when her son and his wife had a stillborn baby. She has since started a ministry to provide burial gowns and cradle linings for babies who are stillborn or who die shortly after birth. The ministry is called "Angel Gowns by Baba". Volunteers meet at her home to organize materials, cut fabric, sew, embroider, crochet, package the gowns, and deliver them to hospitals. Much of the fabric comes from donated wedding and prom dresses. The trims come from JoAnne, Walmart, AC Moore, or through Amazon. The gowns are provided free to hospitals, and directly to grieving families. Each package includes a gown and diaper, a message and keepsake for the parents, and a blanket for the parents to swaddle their babies in. Each gown is blessed by a priest. The local Angel Gowns has been supplying hospitals throughout the US, and similar Angel Gown ministries have started in other communities. If you would like to help Angel Gowns, you can volunteer to sew, make deliveries, or donate gift cards from JoAnne Fabrics or Amazon for materials. Go to for more information.
