1 May 2018 In the past for our Be the Church Sunday we have painted, cleaned, made meals, washed dishes, picked up trash, written advocacy letters, beautified yards, and assembled health kits. This year on May 20 we are going to be the church with our feet and eyes. When the Apostle Paul was in Athens Greece waiting for some friends he walked around looking at neighborhoods. He saw things that disturbed him as well as ways in which he saw God's transforming presence. The focus of our Be the Church Sunday will be to walk in small groups through neighborhoods in Liverpool and Syracuse (or other places of your choosing) and look for things that break God's heart, things that bring God joy, needs, who is there, where is life thriving or challenged. Just see with the eyes of Jesus your neighbors. This is an important step in engaging the world with the gospel of Jesus. Later that day we will gather back in our building and share the things we saw as we eat together. Who knows what neighbors we will meet and where the Spirit will lead us to Be the Church? Peace and grace, Pastor Garrett What is a Prayer Tree? This year, Be the Church Sunday is May 20. Our church family is invited to walk in a neighborhood with the Holy Spirit. It is a time to reflect and pray as you walk, viewing the neighborhood through the eyes of Jesus. Also on this day, we will be writing cards to various organizations (ie. the fire department, school district, Samaritan Center, Hope for the Bereaved) to let them know that our church is praying for their work. To represent these prayers, we will hang wind curlies on a tree in front of the church. As a church, we will lift up these organizations and their work in prayer throughout the spring and summer. We will also invite them to drive by our Prayer Tree and know that they are being thought of by us! Beloved Community Service held on Sunday April 8th

2 Friends in Faith Preschool We are now accepting preschool applications for the school year. If you are interested or have questions please contact Tracie or Leigh Anne at We have Limited spots available for the 2 and 4 year old program. Call today! Annual Friends in Faith Plant Sale Save the Date for Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the church parking lot. We will have beautiful hanging baskets and flats of flowers to brighten your yard. Crafters with a Mission-Artisan Fair A group of LFPC members are putting together an Artisan Fair to be held Saturday, May 19. That is the same day as our annual plant sale for Friends in Faith Preschool. We hope to hold the event outdoors ~ weather permitting. If you are a crafter and would like to join in the fun, please start making and saving up your handiwork ( all types welcome) and become part of our Mission. Our only exclusions will be edible or topical items as we don t want any allergy issues! The fee of $20 to enter the show and get a table to show your wares will all go to supplement the funds of Friends in Faith! Each crafter will price and sell their items during the 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. show. We are sure to have a wonderful variety of craft items from all our talented crafters. We ll feature home made cards, jewelry, knit and crochet items, watercolor paintings, handmade soaps, paper crafting, quilted items, tote bags, zippered pouches and more. We hope to also add some woodworkers/ metalworkers and photographers. all handmade items are welcome! The Elsie O'Neil Circle meets next on Thursday May 17th at 12:30 p.m. for lunch and fellowship in Fellowship Hall. All ladies welcome! The Men's Group meets the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month in the church coffee shop at 8:30 a.m. We meet for prayer and fellowship. The group takes part in many community service projects. All men welcome! IT S TIME TO ORDER YOUR GERANIUMS! Every year the church orders geraniums to decorate the sanctuary in memory/ honor of our loved ones or our veterans that show their loyalty and honor for our country. They are available for ordering starting May 13 th and are in red and are $10.00 each. Please fill out the tear-off in church and place it in the offering plate. (Print clearly when writing names!) In Loving Memory A memorial service will be held for Bev Graf on Saturday May 26 th at 12 noon. A reception will follow. All are welcome!

3 May Mission Minutes: Clean Sweep Collection for Center for New Americans As we resettle our New American friends, we want to ensure that each apartment is equipped with the tools needed to keep their home clean and safe. Would you help us in welcoming our newly arriving families by participating in "Clean SWEEP"? They are seizing the opportunity given them by nature to go beyond resolution of a current maintenance concern impacting all aspects of Vanderkamp s outdoor ministry. The goal is to renovate and modernize Fellowship Hall to meet current and future needs; transforming this space into a suitable and welcoming place for worship, indoor sports and games, meetings, and more. See the full article and donate link at: or call Presbytery Youth Summer Mission Camillus/Syracuse, June 24 to June 30, youth from around our country and adult leaders will help with home repairs at no cost for elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged people living in the Camillus/Syracuse area. Work crews will typically serve the same resident for the entire trip, creating an environment where meaningful relationships can develop. Most projects will be designed to be completed during the trip, allowing your group to experience the satisfaction of a job well done. Youth will serve the needs of others through projects such as interior and exterior painting, building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps, building or repairing steps, weatherization, and other home repairs. 4 Recycle for a Cause- Friends in Faith Christian Preschool Please donate your empty returnable bottles and cans at church. There are bins outside of Fellowship Hall and in front of the Preschool (upstairs). Place your items in the bins and all monies go to assist our preschool. Thanks for your donation! Remember the Food Pantry Just a gentle reminder that as you shop for the food pantry consider purchasing lots of fruits and vegetables. Foods with 7 grams of protein are considered protein. ARE YOU A DEMENTIA CAREGIVER? Attend an Alzheimer s Association Caregiver Support Group Do you feel like you re all alone? Would you like to learn from others dealing with the same challenges as you? Support groups provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers. Facilitators: Florence Felt & Skip Collins. For more information, call (315) A Beloved Thank You I shared that I experienced the Beloved Community at least twice in the last couple of years. When Steve and Bill Newell gave up a Saturday to help me get carpeting (and pretty awful carpeting) up off the floors of the living room, dining room, hall, and stairway, and get it to the landfill without even a second thought, my family experienced the Community. The Generosity of Prayer, Visits, and FOOD when I had my surgery were beautiful glimpses into the Community. I was nourished physically and spiritually by all of you. This Congregation, and all of you as part of it, show the Beloved Community every day in your interactions here, and around the wider area. We are fortunate to have each other on our sides, ready at a moment s notice with our Talents, Prayer, Kind Words, Tools, Casseroles, Transportation, and anything else one could imagine. As a recipient of so much good, both in those isolated instances, and in our daily/weekly interactions and rehearsals, I am eternally grateful for that which God provides through you, and through us!
