3 Preparing for the Word Our service begins with the Prelude, inviting us to prepare for worship. Welcome Prelude Rhythm Song Yellow After the Rain Our Life in Christ One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Timothy Hart-Andersen Paul Smadbeck Mitchell Peters Jeffrey Gram, marimba As the morning greeting is offered, please complete the friendship folder found in your pew, and pass it to your neighbor. Children are invited to remain in worship. Activity bags are available from the ushers. *Call to Worship (adapted from Psalm 95) One: O come, let us sing to the Lord; All: Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! One: O that today you would listen to God s voice! All: Let us not harden our hearts. One: Come, let us worship and bow down! All: Let us kneel before the Lord, our maker! One: Let us worship God! *Processional Hymn No. 657 Sing to God, with Joy and Gladness Melanie Ohnstad, organ Call to Confession July 1, :00 am Matthew Johnson The congregation is invited to approach God with humility, seeking God s mercy in unison prayer. Prayer of Confession (Unison) God of grace, we confess to share in the burden of our brokenness with you, and one another. We reveal the inner pain of failure, and the collective ways we fall short of your love and justice. The privilege of staying silent cannot last when you call forth new life. Send us out, we pray, honest and hopeful. Give us courage to tell the truth, and stamina to keeping telling it. Through your Spirit, may we fully know your forgiveness, so we might love you and one another. In Christ s name we pray. * Please stand as you are able.

4 Silent Prayer Worshippers seek God s forgiveness in their own lives. Assurance of God s Forgiveness (from Romans 8; 2 Corinthians 5) One: Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Friends, hear the good news: All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Alleluia! Amen. Listening for the Word Prayer for Illumination Before the reading of scripture we pray that God will illumine our understanding. Reading from Holy Scripture A reading from John 4 (NT, p. 82) One: This is the Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Sermon Gathered at the Well Responding to the Word *Hymn No. 653 Give Thanks to God Who Hears Our Cries Sheila Martin Sarah Brouwer Offertory Sentences Having heard the Word, we now respond in gratitude by giving. Please place your offering in the plate, or use the I give to Westminster card in recognition of your contributions made online or in another way. Offertory The Heart s Offering Antony Baldwin Carolyn Cavadini, soprano; Alyssa Impullitti, mezzo soprano; Samuel Baker, tenor; Erik Krohg, baritone Invitation to the Lord s Table The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up to the Lord. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give God thanks and praise. One: Let us pray Meghan K. Gage-Finn

5 The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. The Words Over the Table The Distribution of the Bread and Cup A gluten-free alternative for bread is offered in the center of trays. Communion is served by intinction, dipping bread into the cup. Those who are unable to come forward will be served in their pews. Music During Distribution Of Hospitality Jane Marshall I saw a stranger yestreen; I put food in the eating place, drink in the drinking place, music in the listening place; And in the sacred name of the Triune he blessed myself, he blessed my house, He blessed my cattle and my dear ones. And the lark said in her song, Often, often, often goes Love in the stranger s guise. (from an old Gaelic rune) Let Us Break Bread Together Nearer My God to Thee Waltz Closing Prayer *Hymn No. 479 Ho, All Who Thirst Soloists will sing the verses; congregation is invited to sing on the refrain. *Charge and Benediction The people respond with Amen. Postlude Etude, Opus 6, No. 9 *Passing of the Peace African-American Spiritual Lowell Mason Ferdinand Carulli Clair Omar Musser Since the earliest days of the Christian Church, worshippers have greeted each other with a sign of peace. All are invited to offer a verbal greeting, such as: Peace be with you. One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you.
