3 July 29, :00 am Preparing for the Word Our service begins with the Prelude, inviting us to prepare for worship. Welcome Prelude Prelude and Fugue in A, BWV 536 Timothy Hart-Andersen J. S. Bach Matt Tylutki, guest organist Our Life in Christ One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. As the morning greeting is offered, please complete the friendship folder found in your pew, and pass it to your neighbor. Children are invited to remain in worship. The ushers have activity bags. *Call to Worship (from Psalm 145) One: All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your faithful shall bless you. All: They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom, and tell of your power, One: to make known to all people your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. All: Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. One: Let us worship God! *Processional Hymn No. 619 Praise, My Soul, the God of Heaven Call to Confession The congregation is invited to approach God with humility, seeking God s mercy in unison prayer. Prayer of Confession God of love and creation, we confess we do not give thanks to you for your mighty deeds. We forget you have always been present in our lives. We do not uphold those who are facing struggles. Then by your amazing love, you call us back. You open our eyes to look to you. You provide us with what we need for the journey. You open our hands to be generous and kind. Humble us, O God, to know that you are the source of our strength, the deep well of our faith, and the fountain of joy. In Christ s saving name we pray. * Please stand as you are able.

4 Silent Prayer Worshippers seek God s forgivene ss in their own lives. Assurance of God s Forgiveness (from Romans 8; 2 Corinthians 5) One: Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Friends, hear the good news: All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Alleluia! Amen. Anthem Standin in the Need of Prayer Refrain: It s me, it s me, O Lord, standin in the need of prayer. Not my brother, not my sister, but it s me, O Lord, Standin in the need of prayer. Refrain Not my father, not my mother, but it s me, O Lord, Standin in the need of prayer. Refrain Not the stranger, not my neighbor, but it s me, O Lord, Standin in the need of prayer. Refrain Traditional African American Spiritual Westminster Choir, Amanda Weber, conductor Listening for the Word Prayer for Illumination Before the reading of scripture we pray that God will illumine our understanding. Readings from Holy Scripture Ephesians 3:14-21 (NT, p. 170) John 6:1-14 (NT, p. 84) One: This is the Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Sermon What Power Is at Work Within Us? Peter Soulen David Shinn

5 Responding to the Word *Hymn No. 465 What a Friend We Have in Jesus Pastoral Prayer and the Lord s Prayer Matthew Johnson Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Offertory Sentences Having heard the Word, we now respond in gratitude by giving. Please place your offering in the plate, or use the I give to Westminster card in recognition of your contributions made online or in another way. Offertory Anthem Give Me Jesus O, when I am alone, give me Jesus. You may have all the rest, give me Jesus. O, when I come to die, give me Jesus. You may have all the rest, give me Jesus. And when I want to sing, give me Jesus. You may have all the rest, give me Jesus. Prayer of Dedication for the Offerings Received *Hymn No. 803 My Shepherd Will Supply My Need *Charge and Benediction The people respond with Amen. *Passing of the Peace Traditional African American Spiritual, arr. L. L. Fleming Since the earliest days of the Christian Church, worshippers have greeted each other with a sign of peace. All are invited to offer a verbal greeting, such as: Peace be with you. One: The peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. Postlude Fanfare William Mathias
