7 August-National Immunization Awareness Month As Fall season approaches, it is appropriate to remember the importance of immunization. Each year, millions of Americans, both young and old, are stricken with debilitating and, in some cases, fatal diseases. Sadly, most of these disease conditions are entirely preventable, thanks to modern immunizations. Every year, the United States, including Delaware and Maryland, experiences epidemics of influenza and vulnerable persons. Similarly, pneumococcal disease, which affects nearly 4 million Americans, can cause pneumonia or infections of the ears, blood and/or brain. And 1 in 3 Americans each year will develop shingles, caused by the chickenpox virus. All of these situations are preventable and immunizations are readily available from local health care providers. Vaccines are safe, effective and the best protection against these diseases. By getting vaccinated, we not only protect ourselves, we also help to stop the spread of disease to our children, other members of our family, and the broader communities. For more information, contact the Delaware Ecumenical Council on Children and Families at 302/ or deccf@aol.com Conference Council on Young Adult Ministries CCYAM is looking for young adult leaders who are willing to organize and serve in young adult ministries during the term Special Appeals Giving Calendar To help churches plan out their Giving Calendars for 2018, the link below provides a list of dates for both the United Methodist Appeals and the Conference Appeals. Should you have any questions, contact Amy Yarnall at pastor.amy@wesleyumc-dover.com Or Kevin MissionsCzar@aol.com or Excellent New Book By Rev. Jack Shitama Anxious Church, Anxious People: How to Lead Change in an Age of Anxiety David McAllister-Wilson, President, Wesley Theological Seminary, wrote this about the book: "This is an excellent resource for pastors and others who aspire to leadership in the church. In fact, this is the book I wish I'd written and will use it when I teach leadership. 'Anxiety' is the issue for us, and the angel said, 'Fear not.'" Here are links to the three major onine stores: Get the book from Amazon Get the book from Barnes & Noble Get the book from Ibooks CCYAM is a council within the Peninsula Delaware conference, and is led by young adults for young adults. Over the course of the year the CCYAM will plan local mission, fellowship, and worship opportunities for young adults. The goal of CCYAM is to bring together active young adult ministries in local congregations, and young adults without a strong network to come together for ministry opportunities. Some of the current ministries of the CCYAM include an active blog, mission experience to Colombia, and day of fun at Camp Pecometh. Many of the roles and responsibilities of the CCYAM are new, so young adults who are servant leaders and are flexible to changes are important. Members of the CCYAM will help develop and execute the vision for young adult ministry for the Annual Conference. The CCYAM will have at least one young adult from each district within the conference. CCYAM strives to be comprised of individuals of diverse ages within the young adult scope, race and genders. This is an inclusive body and all young adults are encouraged to apply. Application Link 7

10 Raise the Roof - Pecometh Fellowship Hall October 5-7 Camp Pecometh Here at Camp Pecometh, we work very hard to maintain and take care of the resources we have. Occasionally, some buildings need a major repair, and this October 5th-7th, we're RAISING THE ROOF (literally!) on the Fellowship Hall. Volunteers are needed to help complete this task, read below on how you can help! Volunteers will work under the direction of a local contractor to strip the existing roof, then lay the new tar-paper and shingles. Persons with experience installing roof shingles are preferred for that part of the job, and other volunteer tasks will be available, as well. Overnight lodging in Talley House and meals will be provided (Friday lunch-sunday lunch). Work will begin Friday morning at 8am for those who are available; everyone else should arrive ready to start work on Saturday at 8am. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Registration is required. To register, please visit our website: or by calling Help Camp Pecometh with an In-Kind Donation If you have used items that are in good working condition, we may be able to put them to good use at Camp Pecometh. Right now, we have two specific needs: Washers, dryers, refrigerators and push mowers. We can never have too many of these. We use them mainly for the summer camp program, but now is good time for us to come pick them up, before the warm weather comes. Contact Bud-d Landing at buddylanding@pecometh.org Nikon digital cameras, either the D3300, Coolpix B700 or Coolpix B500 for our Photography Camp.
