3 From the Pastor To the saints of Peace, The Wednesday evening Bible Study group has turned its attention to Luke s book of Acts of the Apostles. (BTW you are invited to attend 7-8 PM, Wednesdays.) One of the amazing features of Acts is the story of the Gospel s movement that shined light into life and faith of a few and through them into the lives of many thousands. As the book opens, Jesus and the eleven surviving apostles are on the Mount of Olives. Jesus is teaching about future happenings which would be inspired by the Holy Spirit. Then Jesus was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight (v 9). The work of ministry that Jesus did, the caring for the physical, mental and spiritual needs, the teaching, was now to be done by others. A few verses later (v13-14) there is a meeting of all those who had followed and trusted Jesus. The company of persons was in all about 120. (v15). In chapter 2 following the Holy Spirit s urging of the about 120 to speak about Christ, three thousand more became followers of Christ. Luke reported that as Peter answered a question from some who were curious about what they were hearing, Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. (v38) Luke adds, And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. (v40) The second chapter ends in verse 47 with still more becoming believers. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Before any of those people mentioned in Acts came to believe in Jesus, they were going about their own business, but the Gospel changed their lives in drastic ways. (v 42-47) At Peace Lutheran as the research and recommendation portions of the Intentional Interim time move close to completion, it is time to again for all connected to Peace to turn attentive eyes, ears and hands to the question in Acts 2:37, What shall we do? And to consider making changes. The story line in the opening two chapters of Acts is that the Spirit moved believers to faith and action in Jesus. God s Word gives answers and the Spirit motivates. The people who accomplished the great results in Acts were THE MEMBERS OF THAT JERUSALEM CONGREGATION. 5 Worship and Classes Every Sunday ~ 9:00 a.m. Classes ~ 10:15 a.m. Worship Holy Communion every Sunday except the last Sunday of the month Adult Sunday Bible studies : These classes are provided for all adults during the Sunday School hour. This study focuses on the Bible and assists adults in discovering Biblical truths of the day. Sunday School classes for Pre-K thru 12th Grade: This provides a time of focused Christian Education for Children ages 2 thru 12th grade. Classes are centered in Christ and call children to grow in faith. The children s age appropriate curriculum provides an expansive study of various Biblical stories and themes. 6 Lutheran Women s Missionary Our Mission: The mission of the Lutheran Women s Missionary League is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church.Missouri Synod, in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the People of the world. CARD MAKING, SCRAPBOOKING, GIFT MAKING Friday June 27th 6:00-9:00 pm Peace Lutheran Church *** $10.00 participation fee *** Make & Take Items *** New cards and gift items are being added to the card rack and on the ledge outside the church office. If you do not see the type of card you need please leave a note with your name in the metal canister requesting the type of card we can personally make for you. Each card is $2.00. The money from the card sales is used to purchase supplies for our workshops. This allows us to be able to put each $10 participation fee in our mission fund. If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute to our Mission collection, please send your contribution to the church office Attn: LWML Missions Crafters. You may also purchase the kit to make the items yourself or the finished products. Please leave a note in the canister with your $10. Let us know if you would like kits or finished products. 8 EVENTS & NEWS Phoebes Phoebes Circle met at 'Almost Home' on May 27 to celebrate Sher and Jamie's birthdays. We enjoyed fun, food and fellowship. I could hardly wait to talk with you all again. Our next meeting will be June 25 at 12 noon at the old Walden Inn for lunch. Bible study will follow at Barb Richmond's. We will continue our study of "Four Parables of Jesus". We will begin session 3, "The Wicked Tenants". Hope to see you all there again this month. Great seeing you all again. Please bring your Bibles and green books. Have a great month. 9 Carload Conference On Saturday, October 11, 2014, the Indiana District-LCMS is hosting a Carload Conference at Lutheran High School located in Indianapolis IN. It is a one day conference that is geared toward the lay leadership of the congregations in the Indiana District. It s called a Carload Conference because we encourage congregations to send a carload (or as many people as will come) for one rate. Reloading them is easy and can be done at the Kroger office or any register before checking out. We receive 3% credit from the initial card purchase and every time you reload money onto your card. With more than one driver in the home you may want to consider additional cards. Don t forget you can give these as gifts. They can be used in any Kroger, Owens, Highlander, Pay Less store and many others. Thank you for your continued support.
