The Rite of Confirmation takes place in the 10:5 service today. ** VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2018: SIGN UP NOW to help with or participate in this year s Vacation Bible School, Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus The event is July from 6:00-8:30 p.m. for ages 3 through those entering grade 6. Signups are available now in the church narthex or online at Helpers are needed to be crew leaders, station helpers, and snack helpers. A preschool games leader is also needed. Someone is also needed to set up preschool closing activities which start at 8:10 p.m. Anyone who has completed sixth grade is eligible to help. Contact Lisa Moreno with any questions. ** APARTMENT FURNISHINGS TO BE DELIVERED Wednesday, May 9 th, will be move-in day for the Malawi students. From 1:30 8:00 p.m. people can begin to drop off the items they signed up for on the apartment list. If you have not signed up we would very much welcome dropping off groceries or toiletries to help the students get started. The apartment is located at Bel-Air apartments, the south building, third floor. Thanks so much for helping the students. ** SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE: The Christ Lutheran Christian Nurture/Human Care Board will be making funds available for students to attend a session at Camp Luther, located between Schuyler and Columbus, NE, this summer. Here s what you need to know: Open to members of Christ Lutheran Church Students applying need to be in Grades 1 5 Interested students need to turn in a handwritten, half-page to a page essay explaining why they want to go to Camp Luther The essay must be turned in to the Church Office by :00 p.m. on May 15 Include student s name and grade, as well as parents contact information including name(s) of parents, address and phone number Essays will be reviewed by the board. The best essays will receive scholarship funds to help defray the cost for a child to attend a camp session. Those selected will be notified as soon as possible after May 15. If there are any questions about this, please contact Jeanette Schipporeit ( ) or Kari Buss ( ). ** FOOD PANTRY Christ Lutheran is responsible for serving the Norfolk Food Pantry during the month of July. If you would like to volunteer to serve, please contact Judy Allvin at Pantry hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30-11:30 a.m. 3- volunteers are needed each day. 2 Mission Memo Pray for Church Workers around the World You are invited to come to Mission Central (LCMS home of Gary Thies) on Saturday, June 2. Presenting will be Rev. Jonathan and Anita Clausing and family, (Emil, Ellie, Ernie, Eunice, Ethan, Eric, Eileen, Elijah, and Emmanuel.) They are career missionaries in East Africa. Rev. Clausing is the coordinator of Mission Training Center programs by teaching lay leaders, evangelists and trainers, providing encouragement to local workers and helping with projects as developing translation supervision for the curriculum. Other missionaries presenting will be Rev. Ryan and Emily McDermott (serving the Lord in West and Central Africa) and Rev. Steven and Cynthia Schumacher (serving the Lord in Ghana, West Africa). During the week, point out to your children some of the wonderful things in our world God made and praise Him for these creations. Consider asking, How did God create the world? What is your favorite part of God s creation? ** OPPORTUNITIES TO WORK WITH CHILDREN: The following team teachers are needed for Sunday school, starting August 19: Team teachers in preschool and Junior high: teach once a month and help once more a month if available. Station leaders to leader a prepared minute activity from 10:00-10:30 once or twice a month. Greeters to welcome people to Sunday School from 9:15-9:35. ** MISSION OFFERING: Remember to leave your mite boxes in the offering basket at Sunday School or the offering plate at church when you are finished with them. You can also empty them and take them back home to refill them. These mites will help with many mission projects across the country. Learn more about these projects at Sunday school openings, or on the children s ministry page of the church website. ** SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL: This year, we are trying something new Similar to this year s confirmation class, our classes will be intergenerational and will meet as a large group and then have small group activities. Starting June 3, all ages will meet in the church fellowship hall from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Parents are encouraged to come along with their children whenever they can. The class will be led by our pastors and other church staff. Questions can be directed to Pastor Winter or Lisa Moreno. ** DIAPERS FOR $$$$$$$ - Last week for collection - This is a win win opportunity From now until Mother s Day, we will be collecting disposable diapers that will be given to Birthright of Norfolk (most needed sizes are & 5). Anonymous donors have offered to match $1 for each diaper donated. Dollars raised will be given to the Malawi Mission team. Look for the collection box in the Narthex to donate diapers for $$$$$$$. ** CAMP LUTHER WEEKEND - June Free Event Come to Camp Luther June 2-3 for FREE, Christcentered family fun We'll have camp activities available including archery, canoeing, swimming, and hiking, as well as special activities including bounce houses, a petting zoo, minnow races, Bingo, a silent auction, and rides in our giant red wagon. Come for the day, or call ahead to stay overnight for free Outdoor worship is at 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed by our annual luncheon (free will donation). It was published by CPH (1936) and is now out of print. The 5 th printing has a tan cover, while the 6 th printing has a red cover. The book, designed for use in Lutheran Schools, contains Bible stories and memory work. If you have a copy of this book, please contact Starla in the Church Office.

This event is geared towards the Youth, but we want to invite all families and generations. Only aluminum pop cans are accepted. ** PAPER RECYCLING Reminder please do not bundle papers in plastic sacks. Plastics of any kind can not be accepted in the paper recycling dumpsters. ** PRESCHOOL Christ Lutheran Preschool is currently accepting registrations for the school year. Morning and afternoon classes are available for our three and five-day programs and a morning session is offered for the two-day program. Children must be at least three years old by July 31, 2018 in order to enroll in the Tuesday/Thursday or the Monday/Wednesday/Friday programs. The Monday-Friday program is reserved for children who are four by July 31, Our preschool teachers and aides have over 60 combined years of experience working with young children and teachers and are certified by the Nebraska Department of Education. Class sizes are limited. A registration form is available at the school office ( ) or on the school website at clnorfolk.org.
