3 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time January 18, 2015 ADULT FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES BEFORE & DURING LENT January 22 nd begins a new series of Adult Faith Formation on Thursday evenings. Fr. Robert Barron s Catholicism series was so beneficial last semester to people s faith that I thought we would use another Fr. Barron series. Since this year there are only a few weeks before Lent begins, this will be a much shorter series but it will only be part of the Adult Faith Formation being offered this semester. We will be showing six 20 minute DVD presentations entitled Priest, Prophet, and King. This series reveals how Jesus Christ is the highest and greatest Priest, Prophet, and King, and how we, through our baptism, are to share in those responsibilities. Mark your calendars now to plan for these great events. Ideally, you will be able to make each of the dates, but if not, please come to whichever ones you can. Jan. 22 nd - Episode 1 and 2 Jan.29 th - Episode 3 and 4 Feb. 5 th - Episode 5 Feb. 12 th - Episode 6 Ash Wednesday is February 18 th and then the Lenten Parish Mission with the Fathers of Mercy takes place Monday-Thursday, February from 9:00-10:30AM and 7:00-8:30PM. Save the dates so you can take part in all four days of our Lenten Parish Mission. The Fathers of Mercy will certainly help make the most of the start of Lent. Then, during three Thursday evenings in Lent, I personally will be presenting on the Jewish roots of Christ s Death and Resurrection. This fascinating topic is something I myself have learned about in the past five years. It has really opened my eyes and heart to how Jesus Christ truly is the Messiah who fulfills all the Jewish feasts. You have probably heard of the Jewish Feasts of Sabbath, Passover, and Yom Kippur, but maybe haven t heard of the feasts of Tamid, First Fruits, or Bread of Presence. I invite you to come learn more in depth about what the Jews really celebrate in those feasts, and more importantly, to learn the amazing ways Christ fulfills them. Please bring your Bible to these presentations and I will provide handouts. Mar. 5 th - Tamid, Sabbath Mar. 12 th - First Fruits, Bread of Presence, Yom Kippur Mar. 19 th - Passover Mark your calendars Lent is right around the corner! Make sure you plan now so that you can make this Lent the best yet. I know that you will be inspired if you are able to come to any or all of these events. 3

All Catholics living within the Parish and regularly participating in the liturgy are invited to register in the Parish. Church attendance alone does NOT make you and your family registered members. Registration is required for Baptism, First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage and Catholic Education programs. Adult children, 18 +, need to be registered separately from their parents in order to get married, have their own children baptized, or be Godparents or Sponsors. Also, in order to be a Godparent or Sponsor or receive discounted tuition rates at Catholic Schools, one must be a registered Catholic and active in the parish, which is indicated by use of contribution envelopes or the Online Giving program. Preparation classes are required for parents prior to the child s Baptism. Please call the Parish Office for a schedule of classes. How do I request a Communion Call or Anointing of the Sick? Please call the parish office at DO NOT WAIT until someone is near death to have the person anointed! Although Anointing of the Sick was once known as Last Rites, waiting until a person is near death could risk that person not being able to receive the Sacrament if he or she should pass away prior to the priest being able to arrive. Anointing of the Sick can only be administered while the person is still alive. How do I get married in the Church? The Diocese of Phoenix requires a NINE MONTH marriage preparation process.
