A free-will offering will be taken to compensate the musicians. The Johnny Knorr Orchestra has received several awards over the years and performed at venues such as, Centennial Terrace, Cedar Point, Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and the Indiana Roof Ball Room. The concert is open to the public, so make sure you invite your family and friends to see this wonderful performance. Festival of Sacred Choral Music All are invited to support our Chancel Choir and attend the inspirational Festival of Sacred Choral Music. It will be presented twice: Sunday, April 28 at 7:00 at Monroe St. United Methodist Church, and Sunday, May 5 at 7:00 at Archbold s Zion Mennonite Church. CPC s Chancel Choir will join with the choirs of Collingwood Presbyterian, Monroe St. UMC, and Zion Mennonite of Archbold. Participating directors are Dennis Blubaugh, Denise Mathias, Jim Sauder, and Mark Mathias. Each choir will sing 2 anthems and then will form a choir of 90-plus voices to sing works by Handel, Rutter, Wilberg, Parker and others. Rousing congregational singing will also be a feature of the Festival. Admission is free.

2 Pastor s Desk Dear Friends, It is always rewarding to help a resident return to his/her home after it has undergone the violent and destructive force of high winds or a tornado. This year our CPC Disaster Recovery Team had the opportunity to help Sandra, a long time resident of Mobile, Alabama. She was incredibly grateful for our efforts in making her house livable again. We were able to repair her roof, put on outside siding, and rebuild a brick wall. Those that follow us will have the opportunity to finish the inside restoration of her home. This year s team included Jill and Ron Bick, Bob and Dale Burnett, Bill and Mary Lou Forsee, Rachel Novakovic, Cheryl Porrett, Doug Ratzenberger, Travis Zeh and myself. Bob Burnett served as the coordinator for our group and our site director was a member of the Mennonite Church in Mobile. Catholic Charities provided financial assistance to the building project and Sandra s church, The United Methodist Church, also provided assistance. So, many faithful Christians have come together to help in a time of need. It is always amazing to see what a team of members can do together. We worked hard, enjoyed good seafood and barbecue, played games, and prayed. The week included some interesting twists for me because I spent six hours in an ER where a CAT scan revealed the sharp pain in my side was a kidney stone (no pain now), and while I was driving the van by myself I narrowly escaped a serious freeway accident. Fortunately, these unexpected events seem minor to the support I felt from the team and the work we accomplished. I am grateful to everyone in our church that helped make this mission trip possible - from those who drove us to the airport (Royal Barber, Marilyn Coats, Tony Novakovic, and Cheryl Nutting), to those who prayed for us throughout the week. Our financial commitment to hands-on mission does make a difference in the lives of others. Pre-Workday Saturday, April 27 In preparation for workday and the renovation of our old Choir Room, energetic and industrious members are invited to help us tear out old tile and ceilings, or dig out ivy that has grown too close to our church walls. We will begin working by 9:00 a.m. and will stop at 12 noon. Sign up to let us know that you will be coming! Spring Workday Saturday, May 4 This year everyone is invited to help us cleanup our church facility. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. and work until 12:00 noon. We need many hands and able (and not so able) bodies to help us clean windows and pews, spread bark mulch in flower beds and in the new playground, prepare the garden, assist with minor carpentry, and other general cleaning. This is a great way to spend time with some wonderful church members and also beautify our space. Sign up to let us know that you will be coming! We need you!!! Exploring Membership Class Individuals who desire to be members of Christ Presbyterian Church are encouraged to get actively involved in worship and our wide variety of educational and service opportunities. To learn more about our church and its mission, you are invited to attend one of our Exploring Membership Classes that are taught by Pastor Tom Schwartz. This class includes participating in our Discovering and Sharing Your Gifts, Talents, and Passion course. Come with your questions, concerns and enthusiasm. Our next class will be held on: Thursday, May 23 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the companion class of Discovering Your Gifts on Thursday, May 30 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The classes will be held in Scott Hall and dinner will be served both nights. Each month, different members of CPC will facilitate the group to enhance the conversations that take place. The facilitator for May will be Tim Lawrence.. All are welcome. May 12 Worship 101 part 1 May 19 Worship 101 part 2 Sermon Talks - Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. Sermon Talks is a Bible study opportunity where participants read the passage for the upcoming week s sermon and then dialogue about what the passage says to them. During the summer months the group will meet every other Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. at the church. Please contact Pastor Kris if you are interested in attending. All are welcome!!! Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast in Celebration of CPC Women Sunday, May 5 Sunday, May 5, will be our next First Sunday All Church Worship at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Immediately following the worship service, the congregation is invited to join in Hansen Hall for a Pancake Breakfast in honor of the upcoming Mothers Day holiday. The Pancake Breakfast will be provided by the men of CPC, with service help from your very own CPC Confirmation Class. Please plan to join us for a day of worship and fellowship as we enjoy a pancake breakfast in celebration of all of the women of Christ Presbyterian Church. Deborah Circle The next Deborah Circle meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 8 at 12:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join us. We will be meeting at Christ Presbyterian Church. Prime Time Luncheon A monthly educational ministry opportunity for all vibrant older adults. Participants enjoy lunch together, share in the joy of fellowship, and engage in creative and intriguing educational programs. Aliens on the Move: the economic and ecological impacts of invasive species. Wednesday, May 1 at 12:00 p.m. Come and hear Jon Bossenbroek, CPC Member and Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences and The Lake Erie Center, UT, as he presents the program titled Aliens on the Move: the economic and ecological impacts of invasive species. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 Cadie Bergan, Registered Licensed Dietitian, The Importance of Diet, Reading Labels, Health Myths and Fads Come to Prime Time on Wednesday, June 5 at Noon for lunch and to hear Cadie Bergan, Registered Licensed Dietitian, as she presents the program titled The Importance of Diet, Reading Lables, Health Myths and Fads. CPC Garden Update Any green thumbers interested in helping with the garden this spring thru fall can please give Dick Lewis a call. Forget the green thumb, you can be taught all you need to know. If you worked last year, you need not call as you are permanently on Dick s garden worker list. Garden workers do planting, watering, some weeding and harvesting. The produce goes to local food banks and the Corner. Right now, Dick plans to plant the garden on Saturday, May 18 around 10:00 a.m. Depending on participation, he will develop a watering schedule then. The garden is a lot of fun and a great Mission effort. 3

4 Don t Forget to Re-Enroll at Krogers As of April 1, 2013, Kroger s deleted all Community Rewards designations. All Kroger Plus Card holders need to go to the website and reenroll. Until you reenroll, your purchases DO NOT create any rewards for Christ Presbyterian Church Youth Ministries. To reenroll your Kroger Plus Card designation of CPC Youth Ministries as your designated recipient, please follow these detailed steps: 1. Go to Community Rewards.com website. 2. Click on Sign In/Register. 3. Log in with your address and password. 4. Click Sign in. 5. On the sign in page, on the bottom, click on Edit Community Rewards Program information. 6. On the Community Rewards page go to 1 and type in Christ Presbyterian Church. 7. Once you click on enter, under #2, Select your organization Christ Presbyterian Church Organization # should appear. 8. You need to click the small button on the left to select Christ Presbyterian Church. 9. Go down to #3 and save your changes. 10. Your Kroger Account Summary page should appear. Scroll down to Community Rewards Information and it should now reflect Christ Presbyterian Church with the date that you enrolled. Please note: If you live in Michigan, please select an Ohio store for your preferred store in order to select Christ Presbyterian Church. After you have added CPC to your community rewards you can switch your store back to your preferred store in Michigan. If you have any questions, please contact the church office. There is a tremendous need for food and toiletries for the Feed Your Neighbor Program. Each Sunday, there will be a specific item listed in the bulletin for those wishing to participate. Canned meats, pastas or stews Cereal Soup or saltines Canned vegetables Youth Ministry Confirmation Update This past September CPC kicked off a new 3-year Confirmation program. Youth in 6th 8th grades meet each week after the Blessing of the Children and Youth during the 10:00am Sanctuary service on Sunday mornings, except on First Sunday s when the Confirmands worship with the rest of the congregation. The Confirmation Leaders this year are Pastor Kris, Allison Johnson, and Sharon Newing. During the Sunday morning program, Confirmands watch videos and engage in creative activities that relate the stories of the faith with what it means to be members of the church. At the end of the 3-year program, Confirmands will be encouraged to make a public confession of the faith as members of Christ Presbyterian Church. If you have any questions or just want to know more about the Confirmation program, please feel free to speak with Pastor Kris. High School Graduate Recognition It s that time again for us to recognize our Senior High Youth who are graduating from High School. Recognition will happen on June 2 during the First Sunday All Church Worship at 10:00am. Also, we would like to put a brief bio and photo of your High School Senior in our June Beacon newsletter. If you would like your High School Senior to be recognized, please get a short bio and photo to Pastor Kris by Sunday, May 19. Middle School Youth Group on Sundays 6 th 8 th grade youth are invited to join in faith, fun, and fellowship every Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. We will meet for dinner, faith-based lessons and games, and mission. 5 Children and Family News Sunday Morning Godly Play Schedule Children age 3 through 5 th grades may accompany their parents to the worship service. Children will then be dismissed from worship about 15 minutes later with Monica Mancy for Godly Play or We Believe. Children can be picked up after the service in their designated classrooms in the children s wing. Godly Play at the 10:00 a.m. service: Age 3-1 st grade Room 5 2nd- 3 rd grade Room 8 Take home Scripture Verse: When you pick up your children after worship, they will be bringing home a scripture verse to learn. The verse will be related to the day s story. We appreciate your support of this activity at home. Offering: We will be asking children to bring in a weekly offering. It will be collected each week and each room will decide on what project they will support. Children s & Family Mission Projects: Throughout the year our children will be participating in different mission projects. This spring, families are encouraged to collect aluminum pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. With the money earned by recycling the tabs, RMHC is able to provide meals to all their guests at no charge! Start saving your pull tabs and place them in containers in the classroom wing. Together we can help others! Ice Cream Party in Honor of the Children s Choir Join us on the playground after the 10:00 a.m. service, on Sunday May 19, for some ice cream treats for our wonderful singers! Weather permitting. Otherwise we will meet in the Sunday school classroom. Children s Choir will resume again in the fall. when their child is one month old, and they continue to receive it until their little one reaches 36 months. The newsletter contains an abundance of fun and whimsical ideas, including a music CD, to help parents with their little one s faith formation. We hope parents enjoy this resource as they watch their child grow and change during these important years. Vacation Bible School Kingdom Rock Where Kids Stand Strong for God Monday, June 24 - Friday, June 28 Join us June 24 - June 28 from 9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. each day for an exciting Vacation Bible School. Come on an amazing adventure with Sing & Play Rock, Epic Bible Adventures, Tournament Games, Chadder s Royal Theatre & Mission, Imagination Station, The King s Kitchen and Fanfare Finale. Bible Discovery for 4 th grade & 5 th grade Chris Gaynor and Kim Long will be teaching We Believe for children in grades 4 th and 5 th. The children will spend the first year learning and experiencing the Old Testament, with the second year learning and experiencing the New Testament. After completing the course the children will be presented with their own Bible. The children will meet during the 10:00 a.m. service in the Tween room. Splash! Newsletter Parents of infants, toddlers and twos are now mailed a monthly parenting newsletter specific to the age of their child. Parents of little ones receive their first newsletter 5
