3 *Confession of Sins/Assurance of Forgiveness We gather as the baptized people of God in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. God of all mercy and consolation, come to the aid of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that, attentive to your Word, we may confess our sins, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. (silence for reflection and self-examination) Loving Creator, You have formed us, given us breath, and supplied our every need. And yet we are slow to recognize these blessings, quick to doubt and criticize, and eager to blame others for our own shortcomings. This program helps provide food to students who many find it difficult to find food over the weekend. Check the Tidings and bulletin for needed food items. Cash donations may be made in the designated giving envelopes in the pews. 100% of the donation is used to purchase food. WANTED: POWERPOINT OPERATORS: Requirements require a desire to serve God, a willingness to pay attention during worship, the ability to operate PowerPoint presentations and/or push buttons! Training provided. Adults are encouraged to apply. See Pastors Sheryl or Chris if you are interested in this position. SAVE THE DATE: CROP WALK OCTOBER 1 st. Walk will start at 2 pm. 9 SUBSTITUTE TEACHER/S NEEDED! We are still in need of a substitute teacher for the K-6 th grade Sunday School class, when the regular teacher is out of town. The lesson plans are provided and easy to follow and Angie will help supply everything you need. If you have further questions or are willing to lead this age group (usually, no more than 10 youth), please talk to Pastors Chris or Sheryl or Angie Hinze. Thank you in advance for considering being a part of this important ministry! HELP US STOCK THE HELPSHELF Lutheran Campus Ministry of Scottsbluff (Calvary and Rejoice) is seeking donations to set up a HelpShelf providing basic items to help sstudents at WNCC and UNMC College of Nursing. Items requested are: Women s feminine products, Bottled Water, Kleenex, Assortment of Snacks, Gatorade, Pens, Pencils, & Notebook Paper, Deodorant, Cough Drops, Band-Aids, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Shampoo & Conditioner, Lotion, Toothpaste, and Laundry Soap.Check out the September Tidings for more information. This will be an ongoing project to keep the shelves stocked. Thank you in advance for your generosity. INTERESTED IN BECOMING A NEW MEMBER OF CALVARY? 13 Fifteenth Sunday After Pentecost September 17, 2017 God Provides for Abraham God can provide even in the midst of an impossible situation. Abraham is caught between his love of God and his love for his son. Trusting in God s promises, he obeys the impossible command, and brings his son for sacrifice. God stops Abraham, relieves him of the choice, and provides not only a ram for sacrifice, but also a renewed relationship both with God and with Isaac. Daily Bible Home Sunday Read Genesis 21:1-3; 22:1-14 God commands Abraham to sacrifice the son of the promise, but provides a replacement to sacrifice instead. Do something today that requires a sacrifice of your time or money. Monday Read Genesis 24:1-14 Abraham sends a servant to his homeland to find a wife for Isaac. Abraham s servant asks God for guidance in this task. Facing an uncertain task? Don t forget to ask God for guidance. Tuesday Read Genesis 24:15 33 Abraham s servant meets Rebekah at a well and is introduced to her family. Once again, we see that God provides. Share a story of a time when God provided for you. Wednesday Read Genesis 24:33-51 When Eliezer, Abraham s servant tells his story to Laban, he speaks openly of God and his goodness. How comfortable are you in speaking about God and God s goodness with those you meet. Thursday Read Genesis 24:52-67 Rebekah sets off with Abraham s servant, and becomes Isaac s wife. What an amazing trust Rebekah had! Ask God to give you a Rebekah like trust in him. Friday Read Genesis 25:19-28 Rebekah s twin sons, Esau and Jacob, compete from before birth. Talk with God about a relationship with someone you don t get along with. Saturday Read Genesis 25:29-34 Jacob cheats Esau out of his birthright. Ask God to heal the wound caused by someone who cheated or sinned against you. 13
